The Spiti Odyssey continues to unfold its magic as we journey from Nako to Losar. After a night of peaceful rest in the tranquil village of Nako, we set out on another unforgettable leg of our adventure. Join us as we chase the horizon and live the adventure on this captivating fourth day.
Our route today takes us deeper into the mystical landscapes of Spiti Valley, covering around 125 kilometers from Nako to Losar. This stretch of the journey blends cultural exploration and breathtaking natural beauty, promising an enriching experience.
We began our ride early, leaving Nako behind and winding through spectacular mountain roads. Our first significant stop was the ancient Mummy Gu Monastery in Giu, home to a 500-year-old mummified monk. This sacred place offered us a moment of reflection and awe, connecting us to the rich spiritual heritage of the region.
As we continued our ride, the scenery grew even more dramatic. The roads were a mix of smooth tarmac and rugged off-roading patches. The last 70 kilometers to Losar were pure off-roading, pushing our skills and endurance to the limit, especially as we covered some of this distance under the night sky. Despite the challenges, the stunning views and the unity among riders kept our spirits high. Following the rider ahead, or tailing, provided not just companionship but also practical benefits like reduced wind resistance and better navigation through the rough patches.
Upon reaching Losar, we learned that Kunzum Pass was still closed due to heavy snowfall, forcing us to change our plans. Instead of moving forward, we had to pivot and turn back from Losar. This unplanned change reminded us that the spirit of adventure is not just about the destination but also about embracing the journey and its surprises.
Despite the change in our itinerary, the camaraderie among the riders and the majestic beauty of Losar made this leg of our trip unforgettable. We were greeted by the rugged charm of Losar and the warm smiles of the locals, making our journey worthwhile.
