Patrick, I mean this as kindly as possible: MOVE FASTER Why are you taking over 2 minutes to play b3??!! The story of your chess life is time trouble into a horrific blunder. You need a post-it on your monitor that says ‘look at my clock’. Loosen that hat up or something, restricting your vision. You play like you have all the time in the world in a time format that isn’t even long form. I promise you if you focus on your time management you will jump up 200 points.

Hey Patrick! I play the Scandinavian as black and I could tell you the weaknesses of it. It's a legit opening but since the queen comes out early in the game, you need to keep chasing it around using bishops and knights. For instance at 2:09 you should've gone bishop d2(which you did after 3-4 moves) so that you prepare a revealed attack on the queen. Non only you develop your pieces but gain tempo as well from the queen retreating. Good luck in your next games ;)

The fact you developed faster than usual at the start was excellent (minus the odd pawn move). The main issue I see during the middle game is that we are just missing ONE move of thinking... you're thinking: "Ok, what is my best move?" however you aren't thinking about: "What is my opponent likely to move when I move this". If you can just get to ONE step further in your thinking, you'll be a lot more successful. Finally, you can think of the king as being worth approximately 4 points of material in the end game... so if you just leave your king in the starting position, you're essentially playing without your best piece.

Patrick, my man, you're simply moving and exchanging pieces with no plan at all. You seem to be unable to spot your opponent weaknesses, be it weak squares to move your knights, his king in the center for too long or even his undefended pieces. I don't see you talking about anything about that, which implies that you don't know that you don't know it. A few tips: - Don't pin just because you can. If you can't exploit or capture the pinned piece in 1 or 2 moves, then just don't waste your bishop sitting him in the corner like a pawn. - If his king is still in the center, you want to open the center ASAP to exploit this fact. So go for the center. - If an exchange doesn't benefit you, doesn't alleviate the pressure on you, you simply don't exchange. Keep pieces on the board. The final and most important tip though: - You DESPERATELY need to study how to identify weaknesses on the board. There's plenty of resources about it online. Currently, you're just moving pieces and hoping for the best. Good luck.

12:19. Please, for the love of god, try to keep this in mind, what im about to tell you. It is ok for two rooks staring at eachother along the files. If you take his rook, the d8-rook steps in and is very happy to occupy the c-file all alone. If black decides to take your rook, the e1-rook steps in, and is very happy for the same reasons. I'm not sure you were aware of why, but it was the move after this you noticed his rook was about to infiltrate, which did cost you a headache not to mention a lot of time. ❤
@stephenwells1559
@stephenwells1559 Месяц назад
Better principles in the opening, so we'll done for rectifying that. Middle game you still need to limit your thinking to "what does my opponent want to do on his NEXT move" and making quicker decisions responding to that and that ONLY. This is why you are finding yourself in time trouble every game. Thinking about too many things and becoming indecisive. Generally a good game despite the time control blunder at the end (he had mate a couple of moves earlier but you both missed it. Your biggest positional error of the game was exchanging Rooks. Don't give up the open file if possible. You would have been better to move the Rook to c5 (supported by your extra pawn) then try and double up. If he exchanged with you then you could have taken back with your extra iqp and then you could of had a 3 to 1 pawn advantage on the Queen side. Keep at it. Once it clicks I feel you will surge up the rating ladder. At the moment it's just a bit hit and miss as to which principles you remember during each game. But the knowledge is definitely there now. You just need to apply it all at once and do it consistently

@steve.k4735
@steve.k4735 Месяц назад
Patrick why oh why 1. Why do you swap Rooks on the open C.file literally WHY, all it does is leave your Rook stuck defending a pawn and gives your opponent the only open file for the only major piece left on the board, which he immediately uses to invade your position BUT he does not do so by good play you literally give it to him 2. in the ending the King is a fighting piece worth about 3 pawn or a minor piece he moves his king into the fighting zone you leave yours out of combat Love the Westie, I have one too called Jack

When on a poor run of results it might help you to be a bit more defensively minded and slightly passive. Get the king safe, protect all your pieces and ask yourself, am I about to get mated? Delay any attacks. You’d be amazed how the opponent will make a mistake if you stay solid. In this game your a pawn up. You just have to defend your position. It’s up to your opponent to change the game. Trading the rook was a key poor move as was putting the bishop on the a file. Later in the game pushing all the kingside pawns was also a mistake. You can get your king in the centre by just moving one. I don’t think playing 15 mins will do you any favours and it might lose you viewers with long periods of nothing happening unless you edit them, but that will be time consuming on top if the longer amount of time you’re playing chess. Such time controls are more likely to attract cheaters or people not resigning in losing positions. Keep at it.

Even though you dutifully press "game review" each match, I don't think you're getting all that much out of the exercise. It feels like you're adding up "good moves," which doesn't help at all. Try this: Instead of stepping through the whole game (and usually getting tired of it by the end), scan the evaluation chart to focus on the big swings. Then go through that moment until you COMPLETELY UNDERSTAND what was happening. Perhaps that way you won't miss that you had a mate-in-1 like this game. Exchanging rooks on the c-file was doubly bad because two moves before you had used your (much better) bishop to pin (your word) a knight on b6 and the exchange removed the pin. OK, you can also argue that the pin was not a good idea so that would knock the exchange back down to bad. At the very least it was inconsistent. Pin with purpose. Don't overvalue checks.

I feel like every game I watch you play, you are just moving pieces around waiting for your opponent to make a mistake while they aren’t under pressure. Studying openings is great and so are doing puzzles… but if you can get into the positions the puzzles are showing you tactics you will never get to use them. Your pieces are lacking synergy through the middle game.

Hey Patrick! I've been watching your videos since day 1 and I've seen some mistakes you've done. You should move faster on openings so you have more time to think on midgames and endgames, and stop doing a3 on Scandinavian it's kinda wierd. And you should learn more theory and openings because it is very crucial for midgames and even endgames and it might help you win more games. Hope this helps!

I was thinking Ng5 instead of dc, as it threatens mate. Then after black plays g6 Ne4. That was first thought, though I thought Bb4 was good first rather than Re1. but I think your move was better. Bc5, closing the open file. A better diagonal for the bishop. Move pieces to optimum squares. Luft! Or Kf1. Ne5. See now he has the open file, when you exchanged. You are thinking defensively again, Re2? You should be attacking, you are a pawn up, trade down. b3 was good. Then he gets his rook on the 7th, Arghhh! You wanted to exchange knight for knight not bishop. pawns on both sides of the board favors the bishop. You would like to exchange rooks, but it's difficult to do that, there was a simple tactic there you missed, bur rook sacs are hard to see, though get it back with a winning position, plus no prospect of a surprise mate. Then you fell into a mate in a won game, though your time was short. You probably had a draw at that point still with checks Analysis: If you had seen the rook sac you win, because the rooks come off and you will crush him. You missed the fork, because look at all checks first especially in time trouble. All and all, not bad just too many mistakes, and a few wrong ideas. Ba5? An anti-positional nightmare of a move. It's a fork not a pin by the way. K g2 is good because it threatens to kick the rook off of the e file with Kf3. Attack, degrade your opponent's pieces. It also defends g4. Just moving your king up by route is not always good, as you have demonstrated, you want it to have a place to go. Thus, you can think moves ahead and move up as opportunities arise. Good work with the rook and knight. At the very end you play, after he plays Rxh4, Rb7+ then grab f7 threatening to take on g7, and you push the passer as you say.
@jamonh
@jamonh Месяц назад
These types of analysis are useful but even more useful if you include time stamps. Just write the time you notice it happening (as MM:SS format, like 3:23) and then us following along at home can just tap the timestamp to see the board and see what you’re saying
