At 3:19 Qh5 then Knight h6 would have won material

Congrats on the win... but the difference between this and last game was you stopped asking: "If I play here, what will my opponent play." You did that SO well last time and you didn't really continue it in this game.

Dude how can you miss that e4 is under attack and the next move after Se5 f6, that Qh5+ is a move? please work on your full board awareness and not on stereotypes like "knights before bishops" etc Your consistency is awesome tho, will try to reach the same in some areas 👍

Concratulation on that win. Your time management gets better. Still there are situations where you spend an unnecessary amount of time. Like when your opponent played Bd5 and your queen was attacked by blacks rook you took a lot of time deciding between Qa6, Qa4 and Qa3 when there is no clear reason why one move is better than the other. So just decide for one and do it. Maybe it's hard for you to be confronted with several seemingly equally good continuations. Since you don't have the time in a rapid to go deep into each variation, just go for the move that feels the most natural for you. About you question about how to decide which rook should go to the file, think what the other rook can do, after you moved one of the rooks to the file. So had you played Rfd1 your a1 rook has a1, b1, and c1 none of which makes sense for the rook. If you play Rad1 the other rook has e1 which is fine as it is a semi open file. When there is just one open file it might not matter which rook you choose since you have to double them both on the only open file anyway.

Haven't commented in a bit, just want to congratulate Patrick on his improvement since the days when he struggled to develop his pieces. 23:45 "I guess, knights before bishops unless you're gonna lose a pawn." Yes! This is called the idea of superseding concepts. 24:13 "I didn't see that move because I was focused on developing... actually that's not true." Thank you. There are a few things you say that make me 🤦so glad you caught that one. 26:00 "And then I can go c4." Please learn how to analyze in the year 2024, it's not that hard. The engine is screaming at you to take the free bishop.

Patrick your analysis is not accurate on the end of the game. When you sac the bishop you would have been able to just capture your opponent bishop after the check, because both the rook and the queen attack it. That's why the opponent resigned.

Sometimes I wonder if he sees the textbox that explains all the blunders or good moves. He talks as if he doesn’t. It literally says ”this wins a free bishop”. Patrick: ”now I can play c4…”

Patrick makes a winning move on instinct without knowing why it's a winning move, even when the coach point it out. 🤣

That was a very nice game Patrick. It was very good that you spotted Qh5+ at 7:55 winning a piece. And then at 8:53 you played Be2. That is so mature and I don't think a younger version of you plays that. You are a piece up. No need to do anything rash. Develop your pieces and get your king castled. Very good. But then at 10:36 winning the exchange with Nd6+ is too good to turn down. So that was also a good move and you are a piece and an exchange up. It's a shame you fell for the fork at 15:36 giving the exchange back. But doubling the rooks was the right idea - just Rd2 is probably a better way to do it. However, at 21:24 you played Bxe5. And black resigns. I cannot believe that in the analysis you didn't see that you win your bishop back. No wonder you thought it odd that black should resign. But after Bxe5, fxe3, Qxe5+ you can play Qxd5 and win your bishop back (plus the two pawns you just got). Even in the analysis you didn't see that you could win the bishop straight back. It is scary that you seemingy gave up your extra piece for two pawns so willingly. (It was a great move but not one that you fully calculated.) As it turns out, c4 (which you consider in the analysis) also works quite well but only because you played Kf7 for black (blocking the escape of the bishop). Although it is a great win - that end was scary.

@17:15 should have sacrificed your rook with checkmate on g8 after he takes back Qxf6+ he blocks with the rook and you take the rook and its mate supported by the pony.

Wow Patrick, what have you done lately? This game was on a whole new level. You spotted tacics like c4 c5 fork, like Ne7 fork had he played Qg6 to protect against the mate etc. and calculated lines. Also when you were ahead in material, you simply developed your pieces and didn't went for some cheeky lines or overcomplicated matters. Good way to convert the advantage. Keep it up that way and your rating will skyrocket!

Really nice game! You were keeping an eye on potential skewers way ahead of time, calculating on their time, and putting pressure on their pieces throughout the whole game. Even though the computer found a checkmate with the bishop sack before you did, you were patient and did not sack, knowing that you could win without it. Finding the pawn fork early on gave you a great position and material advantage, too.

So, you win a piece for two pawns out of the opening. Maybe you can draw. Now dither over obvious move. Rc1 Rd1 Be3. Wel at least you saw all those rather obvious moves. Sometimes what is obvious is best. Now you need a plan. What is your plan. How about trade down into a winning endgame. Just randomly attack the black queen. Right, that is not the way, though you did not drop a piece it's not productive the bishop on e3 is great. You thought getting rid of his bishop, so why not do that. Trade down, wash rinse repeat. You saw why Bd2 is not a bad move, but there was better. Bc3 is begging to be played, but still the knight move does threaten mate, though so does Bc3. Qxe6+ also but Rxg7+. is good too, Get the queen out of danger. Well, you won quite handily. ++ The second time you have gotten a 2100 performance rating, to my knowledge. Analysis: Instead of Nh5! which is a fine move the machine says you had a faster way to checkmate. I think it is Bc3! f6 where black must give up the queen or get mated in 3 or 4 moves depending on if they jettison the rook to postpone mate. Qxe6+ and now black must give up his rook and still get mated/ Anyhow the best move was Bh6! instead of the knight move, when black gives the queen and gets mated a few moves quicker.

WHAT A GAME! I think this has to be your most impressive domination yet. Coordination of your pieces was absolute perfection. I was a little nervous about the queen infiltrating on your 2nd rank but you handled it beautifully. This should be an absolute confidence booster. Time was a little iffy but you never dipped below a minute and never rushed. Great game!

Just when I thought I'd grow old watching Patrick hang his pieces. Maybe Patrick's problem was never the attack, it's the defense. That's the downside of doing a lot of puzzles, you get better at spotting mates, but there are no puzzles to improve defense or pawn structure

As others say, your best game so far. The reason why you struggled between the clock time 7m down to 1m is because your pieces are all over the board and none protected properly. Bd2 is strategic error as prevents rooks from doubling on d file, but also interrupts queen on second rank defending a2 pawn. And also, forces black to activate otherwise passive queen. At that point, he’s starting to give you hard time with active queen moves. Even in that position, keep it simple. No need to chase his queen with Bd2, double rooks on d file and his position is falling apart anyways . Qe5 great move!

What a great game man. Only on thing from a fellow 1400-1500 struggling. In a tactical position (like when the black queen infiltrates) you have some candidate moves but it seems you spend more time doubting which move to play than actually calculating them 1 by 1. Its just a mental thing man you showed this game you can calculate well. Btw keep it up man i have had bigger rating drops. It will be allright.

good game! we watch your videos on the tv at dinner, soon after upload - very entertaining. a running theme in our commentary is concern when you pick up a piece and drop it back to the square it's on. would love to see you drawing more arrows instead. think of it like touch move in OTB.

BEST single game I have watched you play .. you moved fast .. kept asking what he was doing and reacted .. instead of long pointless I move here he moves there nonsense you stuck more to sound principals like rook on the 7th and that rook became one of the key pieces in the king attack .. you saw the pawn move leading to a fork, calculated his knight move including him taking your bishop with check and what reply you make then correctly played it and won a bishop for two pawns Well done
