Never choose such a guide, mostly he says his own opinion I think. It's better to see on your own than like this guide. I felt very bad about his explanation, being an indian
Although Selwyn seems like a great guide, he is exaggerating some caste issues which is not true. I would appreciate if he just tell the truth instead of exaggerating it. He is telling what foreigners would like to hear, not the truth. Not only the farmers, any one would be happy to invite you to their house since we treat guests like God.
Relaxingtime4me That's wonderful to hear (about inviting people) and it's the feeling I got from everyone I met - welcoming and very gracious. I'm not sure how it sounded (maybe the parts I have on video), but Sudhakar loves and is very proud of his country - that's what we understood, and he has every right to be!
Nancy Ioannidis I've seen your videos and It is awesome. It is a new experience for me to see my Home state in eyes of Foreigners, so that I can get better understanding about the society in which I live. and BTW don't care about keyboard warrior's comment. They will get easily offended if we show them, the reality. THANKS PLEASE VISIT AGAIN :)
Sreenivasa Rajiv Errr....Hello Excuse me, I'm also saying that the reality is important than some fabricated story just to get the attention of others. I have appreciated Nancy's videos often, but sorry for commenting when I suspect some fabricated story. Nancy Ioannidis As I said, Sudhakar does come across as a nice guy, but some of the things he said are not the exact truth, may be he also got the wrong end of the stick. I tell you only because I know very well about Karaikudi. Anyway, sorry for getting his name wrong and thanks for your videos. I do enjoy them a lot.
The guide is a converted Christian trying to denegrate Hinduism possibly to help further Christian conversions in India. We should train English speaking devout Hindus from all Hindu communities, as travel guides so that these Christian converts bent on denegrating Hinduism does not run over us. This idiot should know about the racism that blacks face in USA. In May 2020 alone, there has been many incidents including killing of blacks reported in USA.
@@airavatham878 I am taking about 1000 Year's before, that particular time there is no state.... Chola Dasam only available... Better way you read the history and then you talk with me....
I am native of Thanjavur .. its too wonderful to see peruudayar in the title of the video.. the real name.. but most people call with different names..We natives actually call Big temple periya kovil or Peruudayar kovil...Be connected
Also tell me people piss infront of the temple. I went to thrichanthur and saw the same, people were pissing near to temple, while they got and entire beach for themselves, same goes for shabarimala temple, the tamil and kannada devotees destroys the place by pissing and throwing waste everywhere. Its so sad, they won't have done it if they loved the god
@@bn1193 Thanks for your comments, We understand and accept your point, but you particularly mention some state peoples are you sure the other state people not doing this.. I am coming to your point, don't blame the people We need to blame the government. People will piss why they are traveling from a very long distance once they landed at a destination they search for toilets not temples hope you agree with that. Did you ever used public toilets in tourist places if you ever used one time you will not eat for a month.. Hope you try it during your next visit. Gents will go wherever.. think about women using public toilets. Temples and tourist attraction are big with good infrastructure, but they don't have the money and place to build quality toilets in large areas.
@@bn1193 To my utter horror, I have literally witnessed pilgrims from UP, Rajasthan urinating within the most sacred temple premises such as Kanchipuram Ekambareswarar temple and Rameswaram Ramanatheswarar temple. So stop the shit talking about our locals. It is those barbaric people from uncivilized north Indian belts who behave in an utter nasty manner
Excuse my language. Everything he says about caste is just bullshit! Yeah, India has some caste related issues, but not the way and level he portrays it as, especially in the south.

My life has changed after visiting this temple. I have understood what ancient people have done to the world. This temple is marvelous. Even today, none can make such temple.
GREAT AMAZING & BRILKIANT VLOG. DON'T KNOW HOW THEY BUILT THESE TEMPLES IN THOSE DAYS (WITHOUT COMPUTER). AMAZING OLDEN DAYS ENGINNERING IN TSMIL NADU. TAMIL NADU HAS MOST BEAUTIFUL NATURAL PLACES IN THE WORLD WHERE THE BEACHES ARE COUPLE OF HOURS DRIVING DISTANCE BETWEEN HILLS AND BEACHES.
Hi Nancy. I am a singaporean-Tamil. Thank you for this upload and patronizing this magnificent temple built by my ancestors. My mother was born in tanjavur. The cholans give us a great sense of pride and happiness. An empire that had reached almost the entire breath of south-East Asia at its peak.... Rajaraja Cholan was a great administrator. Not just a warrior.
nancy ..nice documentary....southindia is very colourful.divine...should visit to local hotels tasting local delicasies ...make you feel good...again welcome to southindia....namasthe
@@NancyIoannidis Throughout the history, there were so many protests and resistances to Sanskritization in Tamil Nadu. What you did was really great and deserves a lot of appreciation(I mean this seriously). Thanks a lot. In the eyes of the foreigners, Tamil and Sanskrit are just two of the many Indian languages. But in reality, they are Mongoose and Snake.
@@morningstararun6278 Totally my pleasure! I feel really blessed to have been able to visit such an important historical temple! Thank you for watching 🤗
Original name of the temple is Peruudaiyar temple in Tamil. He is wrong in sayings about the lifting of the stone. It not monolithic stone but made up off at least six stones. It was lifted by arranging scaffolding from a village 10 miles away , the name of the village is "charapallam" which means scaffolding pit. It exists today .
The door keeper says something with his two hands. In one hand He says do you think you are powerful look what is below feet. In another hand he says Do u think I am powerful look inside who is more powerful than anything
Nancy loannidis sister: humble request from a South Indian- please don't call tanjore. It's correct spelling is THANJAVUR. Please correct the spelling in the title. It's humiliating. Hence please do it ASAP
I truly apologize. I did not see your comment until now. I changed the title of the video. If you have time, I would be very interested in knowing why the old name is humiliating. Thank you!
wow Nancy you were so humble and nice. That's what you need to enjoy a beautiful trip. Your Guide is excellent and truly a professional. But I don't see any discrimination between caste. Untouchables? Are you kidding me!! You truly are misguided in that part. But unfortunately, cast discrimination is replaced by the discrimination between Rich and the Poor, which is of-course a plague in many regions around the globe. I don't know in what context he said that.. I live in a sophisticated place but when I see that old man washing his butt and those innocent children who have huge hope in their life..DAMN we must make the world a better place... Anyways, I bet you have seen and experienced many things that can be only seen and experienced IN INDIA ;)
+Aditya Jois Thank you for your kind words about me Aditya :) I truly enjoyed everything about India, and while I agree that we must strive to make our world better, I thought the old man washing his butt was absolutely adorable :) I wish I could have given him a hug! and the kids, while poor, seemed much happier than the kids of richer families that are always into video games and worried if the others have a later version of the iphone than they do. I loved India and I hope I can get to the northern part before it gets homogenized with the rest of the world.

Also reommented to visit kailash temple in ellora (maharashtra) . Largest rock cut monolithic structure in the world . An underrated wonder of the world
it is not Brihadeeshwar temple,It is Thanjai Peruvudaiyar temple named like that as part of politics. pls change. Since you're making a video abt our culture, I hope for you to respect our sentiments and change the name.
I really enjoy watching your videos but I don't think you should have shown the man washing him self and also when you said to the young boy that he should learn English so he can tell you what goes on in the room if you can not understand him then that's your problem not his after all you are in his country why not try to learn his language ?
Sally Baker - Sally, the old man did not think it was wrong to wash outdoors, and frankly neither do I! I think he was absolutely adorable 😊 As far as the little boy, personally, I have no problem with languages. If anything, I actually enjoy trying to communicate, even with gestures. I was just trying to encourage him to understand the value of developing a skill that will help him in life 😊

Great video and brings back great memories of my own South Indian trip. The comments on here about the guide are profoundly silly. So many comments criticising him because he’s Christian?. Do stop it, you just sound so petty. Of course if you feel you can do a better job I look forward to you posting your own videos in future showing us around the temple.
Thank you Patrick. Glad you enjoyed the video. As far as the comments, I guess it's different perspectives for foreigners as opposed to Indians. We all loved our guide and believe he loves his country. He has a kind soul and I saw him several times helping those in need on the side. I understand those offended by the caste issue though and people are entitled to express their opinion. I actually learned a lot from the comments. Enjoy your travels!
Nancy Ioannidis Hello Nancy, Yes I understand that but the guides go through a lot of training so his background be that Christian, Hindu or Tamil, is immaterial. There’s just so much resentment and bitterness and sometimes I think people forget that we travel to their country to see its wonders and it’s people and invest money in its hotels, shops and tourist sites and learn more. I’ve had great guides, average guides and poor guides (in terms of actual work done) but I’ve never encountered comments such as ones on here calling your guide a ‘criminal’ and saying he should be arrested. He seemed a nice bloke, enjoying his work and so long as you thought he was doing a good job that’s really all that matters.
