Today was a rough day. From not feeling well 😷, plus a 6+ mile ascent ⛰️ and a challenging summit. All these combined almost sent me over the edge.
Keep checking back for more of my adventures on the Appalachian Trail and please don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share.

You have us! We’re with you… we feel you your struggles and triumphs. Remember most of the hikes/climbs I’ve done require CTS - Capacity To Suffer…. And the acceptance that goes with it. You’ll get stronger and tougher- you’ll see! Garmin makes a hiker locator which is connected to Search and Rescue. They can find you anywhere…you won’t be alone for long. I hike solo and I feel more secure knowing I have it. Keep smiling… and sing some songs along the way. The AT is a head game. And you’ll win this game…,

You are 'real' that is why I have enjoyed walking along with you via RU-vid. "I haven't anybody to talk to..." I feel all along that has been one of the challenges you carry. You are, it seems, a people person. Yet, I note you call this "Julias Time Out.' I think, via what you have shown us, is that being alone sort of scares you. You say what if 'something' happens, yes, it could but that is true anywhere one goes whether city, town or trail. I think you have proven how brave you are and how capable you are to make it on your own...without conversation from another Yes, it is scary at times, and the adrenaline can lock you up with fear, but in your case, you are thinking as you move carefully through the tougher spots. I hope you are still on the AT. I also hope you are feeling better physically. Any form of illness certainly can make one feel more vulnerable. I watched a little over 6 AT hikers. You are one I look forward to. The AT is placing yourself right in front of yourself, if you get my meaning. Push through the fear and look at what you have done so far! Amazing.

As a short fluffy hiker myself I would have totally lost my 💩 doing what you just did!! As much as you are struggling in this video you are also being brave, resilient, stubborn and thoroughly amazing. Pulling for you!! 🇨🇦🥓

I’ve been following you from the start of your journey this year. You are an inspiration for me as I am planning my AT thru-hike in 2025. I am also an older hiker (67) and to use your term, a little fluffy. I’m rooting for you. Hang in there, you’re not completely alone as you have many people following you and with you in spirit.

Hi Julia, you have got this!!! You have done 300 miles, no small feat, be proud of yourself. I was 66 when I hiked solo AT2023. I knew, as you did, that the mental part of a solo hike would be harder than the physical. You have already got the physical. HIKE YOUR OWN HIKE, your own pace, your own way, it is YOUR hike!!! Remember you carry a Zoleo for emergencies too. The good Lord is always with you, your not truly alone. The wife and I enjoy your videos and root for you always. Hopefully you are still on trail. If we can be of any help or encouragement.

Look at what you've accomplished, 300 miles, yes!!! 300 miles. Do the trail your way. Don't worry about those ahead of you. You can make the trail yours. Flip up, do it Platinum, throw in some blue blazes to be safe or to mix it up. Post on trail sites like the AT has or local ones coming g up, that you'd love someone to hike a day, few days or a section with you. You had a bad day, you're not feeling well, and you had a scary climb up and out. Think about what you have done already and be proud of that. You got this. We're proud of you. Thanks for being straight up real. Be well, good luck

You were scared but you did it anyway. You broke through that fear and got through that gnarly section. That is freaking HUGE. Yeah, you were emotional afterwards and really needed someone to talk with about it. Speaking as a former skydiver, I can say that a totally normal reaction. You just did something that most people can't - you kicked fears ass. Thanks for keeping it real on here.

It’s ok not to be ok and it’s ok to feel weak and tired and scared. Be proud of yourself, you are doing amazing and at least you are trying something that not everybody has the courage to try. Keep your chin up and be positive and thankful. Sending love ❤

Trail will make you feel better. I find my diet definitely dictates how I feel. There is something to the anti inflammatory diet. Thanks for sharing with us. That’s a tough section, but so rewarding. It’s not too far from where I live and I’ve been there several times. Referred to as firescald mountain. Stunning views in the fall. Congratulations on 300 miles. You conquered a tough section. You’ve got this!!

I know it seems that you should be farther along the trail than you are. I went back and looked at a thru hiker I follower last year (solo woman, about your age) and on day 58 she started at mile marker 209. You are doing awesome!

I just need to chill out sometimes and remember to quiet the mind. The mind is what makes you crazy with so much solitude and removing all the stimulation of everyday life. It’s why one does this, but takes strength.

The little bunny knew you were sad and came hopping out to make you smile. I hope you got a chance to visit with some of the others at the shelter. I can understand your fears and I hope you can find yourself a tramily soon. Hiking alone for a long time would be so difficult. ❤

Always remember that strong woman cry, but they always get back up stronger. They face their fears head on, and yet they tremble inside. Sounds to me your a pretty smart woman to realize the danger the trail can be. Really proud of you! Wish I was on trail this year, hopefully next February.

You know you are talking to us and I hear you clearly. You are a great example of how to adapt your hike so you can move along. What if you went ahead 300 miles and go back south and run into all the folks that I am sure would love to see you. Then with rejuvenated energy you flip back and head north? What ever you do. I am behind you.

I totally get it! Howard's Rock was scary. The times that I was on the trail alone or injured, I would ask God, the Universe .... And Grandma Gatewood to watch over me and get me to camp safely. 🙏 It did help my nerves. You get to hike the AT any way that is good for you. The AT is not going anywhere. 😉 All the very best for a happy journey! 🌄
