I made mistakes. Big mistakes. While avoiding the snow, ice, and rain I didn't cook dinner last night. This set me up for disaster and the worst I have felt on this trip. But, we did make it over the pass and I perked right up after good and soda. Now we head for Bishop and the wait begins for the storms to pass.

I learned my lesson the hard way. 2 nights in a row, I skipped dinner because I was cold. It made climbing up to Whitney very difficult (with a full pack). So I ended up hiking all the way down to Trail Camp to sleep, then went back up to summit the next day. You really need to eat a hot dinner on a cold night for 2 reasons: to warm up your core and to provide energy to keep you warm and keep you going the next day. Take care and enjoy Bishop. Don't miss the photo Mountain Lights Gallery, of Galen Rowell. Incredible photography. Also, there is a bookstore that sells ice cream, and of course the library where you can use computers and get free internet. I am assuming that you will all be staying at the hostel, where you meets lots of interesting people and have a kitchen to use too.

Thank you for your excellent videos, and for the humor! Hope you can get some real rest and not rush too much getting back on trail. Have at least one extra cocktail!

This was my favorite video. I've seen most, or all, of yours. Nice job. Hope you don't skip ahead so you can get the full experience. You won't regret it if you wait for the snow to stabilize and melt a bit.

Wow, so beautiful up there!! I'm glad you made it past the hard stuff without you and your friends getting damaged. Time for some serious rest and relaxation to recharge the batteries. You have the time to take a few days or a week off. I liked eating a payday candy bar at night before crawling into bed just to warm myself up or hot jello, tang, etc. I hated putting on the frozen boots in the morning. Job well done. You are my favorite person to follow.

Gee, I came to your video and felt a cold chill come thru the monitor!!! : ) Ya gotta love the sierras. I was about 50 miles north of you coming out of a fishing trip in AUGUST when a hailstorm hit at about 10000' and the horses did NOT appreciate it at ALL. Out of curiosity, who was the artist on the acoustical guitar? Pretty tasty stuff! Keep on trekkin'!

That’s a bummer. There will be days like that and lessons to be learned. It’s part of the journey. Glad to be learning from your journey.

Some days are just like that. A hot meal at bedtime helps quite a bit. Even though its tough going you are still on the trail and taking it a few steps at a time. Good going buddy!

Wow, beautiful views with the snow. Yeah, snow and cold can be miserable if you're outfitted for a summer jaunt, glad you were able to get out safely.

Many hikers who use the zpacks tents are reporting condensation soaking their gear inside their tent. Have you considered switching to a Big Agnes or another tent with fly?

Considered a change but will stick it out for now.

Ugh! That does sound like it sucks! You deserve an extra treat in town. How hard have you found it to push through on super narrow, sketchy parts of the trail? That seems to be the thing that makes me hesitate a bit about going next year. I’ve done narrow...but some of those seem super narrow, crooked, uphill, rocky, icy....damn!

I hope you are able to still appreciate the beauty of the Sierra while dealing with the early season brutality.

Hang in there dude! Summer is on the way - forecast calls for warmer and drier weather by the end of the week. P.S. You're my advance recon team - I'm going over Mather and Pinchot the week of June 3rd. :)
