It's day 6 of our Greek Cruise on the the Royal Caribbean Jewel of the Seas and we are in Santorini.
On October 12th 2019 we board the Jewel of the Seas in Rome, Italy for 9 days of cursing around the Mediterranean. We stopped in Crete, Mykonos, Rhodes, Athens and now...Santorini. Videos from all our stops can be found in the Greece Playlist linked here:
• Day 3 - Cruise stop in...
There is one more stop to make, in the Pizza capital of the world Naples, and we will post that video shortly. But for now, we focus on Thira...
Our adventure started around 6:30 AM with the a Royal Caribbean excursion to the town of Oia. We covered that trip in a separate video you can see here: • Day 6 - Oia Santorini ...
Around 12 noon we arrived in Thira, the largest town on the Island of Santorini and that is where this video kicks off.
We had no plans for Thira (Fira). From everything we heard and read prior, the advice was to just get lost in the town. To walk around and explore what you can, see what you see and experience it. So that is what we did and honestly, we left a bit disappointing.
Were their views amazing - YES
Was it exciting to walk around the town - YES
But after 2 hours, the views and town begin to lose their luster.
It's the same stuff. Same food, same gifts, same views.
We felt Thira lacked any real substance, which means for a 3-4 hour cruise stop, it's PERFECT. You can get off your ship, walk around Thira in an hour, see the views, churches and domes, take pictures, get some food and hop back on your ship ready for the next stop.
This video gives an overview of what you can see in Thira and highlights some of the key spots you might consider adding to your itinerary. It also provides a true reflection of what it's like both waiting and riding the cable car. If you know Santorini and Cruise Ships, the cable car is a legend full of nightmares. Some people claim to have waited 2+ hours for the cable car down to the cruise port on a busy day. We waited about 35 min + another 10 to make the trip down. But the line was long....This is will show you that experience so you can better plan.

2) The Donkey Ride to Thira
