DAY IN THE LIFE #1: Training as a 400m track athlete

I’ve always wanted to show a glimpse into a typical training day of mine. I thought it would be fun to show what an entire day is like, from the moment I wake up, to what I have for breakfast to my running session, and what I do to recover.

Respect to you both. The only thing that could make this worse is not having a training partner to suffer with you 😭. It's great that you post these videos, showing how much work goes into doing what you do. Good luck!

I was a distance runner, but once a week for a bit of speed endurance I used to do 4x400m as hard as I could with 15' recovery between reps. I could just about manage 55" when I was fresh, and I always seemed to pick a day when a pro was at the Battersea Park track, which was not good for the ego... Tamsyn Lewis was often there with Seb Coe - I think he was coaching her at the time. An old man remembers!

Nah, I think Bolt didn't run the 400m cos of his injury problems. As talented as Bolt was, his body was fragile which made training for events even more difficult than the usual. Every sport has such athletes that are talented but whose bodies are not very strong.

Same here, I used to run primarily 4 (and 8). For me it was always the top bend, the final 100 or 50 down the straight usually had enough adrenaline to carry me through but the top bend was the mental push-through moment. Watching vids like this make me wish I'd never given up running. Well done @Laviai, keep pushing girl.

Pedant time - Lactate not lactic, and there is no lactate in your muscles or blood (unless they are made of yogurt or some fermented food!). The lactate you make during exercise gets converted into energy to power your workout. A study from the University of California, Berkeley shows that exercise trains your muscles’ cells to more effectively use lactate for this purpose. As you break down carbs for fuel, the resulting adenosine triphosphate (the source of energy for all the cells in your body) releases hydrogen ions. When these ions accumulate, the pH levels in your muscles drop, making them more acidic. That, combined with the heat that builds up in your muscles during demanding efforts, explains the burn-not lactate. In fact, lactate eases the burn. To produce the substance, your body uses up some of those offending hydrogen ions, decreasing acidity. Muscle soreness sets in because of the inflammation and micro-tears that occur in the muscles during hard sessions. You cannot reduce lactate by using a foam roller either... I just read this stuff in a report (that I did not write...)
