9 June 2024 - It’s already the most successful championship ever for Italy and they’re not done yet!
Yemaneberhan Crippa and Pietro Riva secure gold and silver in the men’s half marathon; Norwegian Karoline Bjerkeli Grøvdal wins the women’s title. More history also for Ireland as Ciara Mageean finally earns a major title in the 1500m. France do a double in the middle distances: Gabriel Tual’s in the men’s 800m and Alice Finot in the women’s 3,000m steeplechase.
A great day for Ukraine as well: Yaroslava Mahuchikh defends her high jump crown, with her teammate Iryna Gerashchenko taking bronze behind Serbian teenager Angelica Topic.
Day 3 also saw two brilliant comebacks: Spain’s Ana Peleteiro-Compaoré wins the triple jump after becoming a mother in December 2022, and Britain’s Dina Asher-Smith is the100m champion once more.
Poland’s Wojciech Nowicki show his quality in the hammer throw for the third successive time.

European athletics is single handedly keeping this sport alive. This is a proper highlights package that covers all the events with full replays. The 100m isn't being clipped down from 11 short seconds to 5 seconds starting halfway down the track, etc. I appreciate this.

@@vichelleh I've heard of them both, and I'm not sure why you think they matter within this context? My compliments were to European Athletics as an organization, not a singular competition. They make streaming a lot of the non-gold level meets easy, they post complete highlights packages that aren't chopped to pieces (which WA and sometimes the DL both do) and they host fun side competitions like the team championships. This is what I was speaking to. Hopefully you and the person above understand a little better now 😉.

Actually, Angelina Topic was far above the jump bar. She will soon reach 2 meters and surely 2. 05 or more ... on Olympic games she will be on the podium. What a fairy !

Great to see Grovdal get the top spot. A veteran getting her dues after many years of toil.

During the half marathon it was possible to see splendid and spectacular images of Rome, both from the sky and from the ground, the only shame was that the sun was covered by clouds and therefore there was no beautiful light.

I cannot find any reference to Dina Asher-Smith being state honoured. In a age where awards are handed out for next to nothingness this remarkable lady has been at the top of UK sprinting for 13 years. Why is she not an OBE at least, possibly a CBE or even a Dame. If it is being delayed until she announces her retirement, I get it. She flies the flag for Great Britain, lets make sure she is added to the pantheon of great athletes with a state honour.
