I love the way you speak about nursing. It's keeping me motivated. I currently hold a degree in another field and I would like to go back to school for nursing, and with all the stuff going on about nurses being treated poorly and being overworked is very discouraging but I feel a lot of positivity from you and you seem to really love your job. So inspiring!

I’m so happy you found a specialty you love! I too am about to transition from Medsurg to Labor and Delivery starting January 16th 🎉 I’m beyond excited 🥰 Medsurg burnt me out for the past 5 years and I was reconsidering even continuing on in my nursing career. I’m praying that I’ll love it as well. I wish you continued success and happiness with your new transition!! ❤

Oh man I’m I’m transitioning too this may coming up I’m excited I’ve done PCU/ Medsurge/tele and telemetry I’m still going to do it while transitioning but just one day wish me luck I pray I love it too cause honey I can’t wait to see me there
I love how thorough you are, but I feel your night shift nurse could have help set you up for a good shift. I work in the NICU and I do that for my night shift relief.
Omg! I'm glad I found this video! I just switched to L&D from MedSurg/Tele for over a decade. I'm a night shifter going to days for orientation as well 🥴😂 any tips for the transition to L&D? Like making your nurse brain, etc.
im a labor and delivery nurse right now and I cant anymore... im actually resigning tomorrow but I think that listening about your facility probably makes all the difference. We are very nurse ran and its exhausting
Thank you for this insight into your role! I’ll be starting nursing school in the fall & my end goal is to be a nurse midwife in a private practice/birth center. I know through my masters program I’ll be working in a L&D unit to get experience in the field, but as someone who plans to do more “natural”, hands off births when I’m done with all of school I’m worried about the things I’ll see & do in hospital as an RN. My question is; for things like the baby monitor, pushing positions(off of back), eating while in labor, instructed pushing etc. Are those things you ask mom about when you introduce yourself & look over her chart, or do you kind of go into every birth with set things you do & if the mom asks otherwise you deviate? I know this can differ from facility to facility but just wondering your experience & the level of choice /informed consent they’re given. Thank you in advance!
Every hospital is different but for every patient I read the doctors orders first. If the doctor says the patient is (NPO) then I won’t give them anything to eat. If the doctor has ordered specific medications for the patient to take then that is what I give them. Patients have the right to refuse medications but if they do refuse, depending on the labor and specific patient the Doctor will come in and tell the patient that they it’s in their and the baby’s benefit that they take it. I’m so excited for your approach to natural birth!! I’ve been working here a year and I’ve only seen maybe 10 natural non medicated births of my one patients. (We deliver almost 156 babies a week) so their may have been more natural deliveries but I’m speaking on the patients I’ve had personally. Also we mostly deliver patients on there back and after being admitting pretty much all patients are on a clears liquid diet. No food.
I love it so far 👩🏽🍼💕 I was going to make a switch into tech but I this job has me rethinking everything 😂. The mothers the cute babies. It’s a lot more enjoyable than MedSurg or oncology

I always felt like to be a midwife or work in the category of nursing ...if u had kids u wold relate more to the mothers... Because they as the midwife's so many questions , maybe because there scared , confused or Curious.... But what if I can only give advice on what I learned in schl ...🥲bc I never experienced the labour or pregnancy before.... Like I'm afriad I wouldn't be able to realte to there situation
