I like how most day in the life videos show the most outgoing/exciting day they have and not the regular, mundane days that we mostly have in our daily work lives
Great video. Most "day in the life" videos seem to spend 80% of the video talking about morning/evening routines and what they ate that day - nothing to do with what their life is like as a SWE. I like how you actually discuss and share the hour-to-hour things you're doing in the job.
@@entice7313 1. I'm working in a startup. 2. I'm a CS and math engineering student. I'm working on reactJS and ruby for backend. Hope that answers your questions :)
To the person reading this, Good Luck! Don't stress, everything will be fine. No matter what difficulty you are facing right now, you can overcome it! You are strong and brave.
I just graduated from my CS bachelors program, so this was a good watch for me. Simple, straightforward day in the life that actually shows what the workday looks like. "Avoids asking hard leetcode questions, value communication" for an interview is a dream for me. Are you guys hiring? 😅
I work in the management side of corporate IT, and watching this day in the life video makes me wonder what life would have been like had I chosen a job like this at a big tech company like this. Really cool to see a realistic work day and what all that consists of. And like others have mentioned, the meeting rooms and desk reservation technology you guys are using is really nice. Very awesome to see! I don't know you but you seem to be crushing it and living the life!
hey Colton, glad that I could provide you with some insight and value. yea honestly I took our meeting rooms for granted, but now I can see how awesome they are. appreciate the kind words, hope to keep this up :)
Hey! I'm an incoming intern at Amazon and honestly I was so scared about the entire experience, but this video gave me the assurance I needed. Also I'm a big soccer fan so it's good to know that I'll be able to find places nearby to play! Also respect for being real and not having 3 different colored teslas
What a great video, really transparent for the work structure and the free food looks great. I'm excited to finish my degree and work towards a social media backend engineer job!
Great video! I’m just after finishing up my final exams in college so I’m in the process of looking for a job so it’s nice to see more realistic videos of the day to day working life.
I love how you don't have any annoying ads 1/3 into it showcasing some hardware from your sponsor. Going to grind some l33tcode now, thanks for the motivationg. Subscribed.
Thank you for showing us a day in the life bro! Inspired me to work harder studying programming. Also I took some notes on what to focus on studying especially for interviews. Kind of intimidated that I should learn almost everything from front-end to back-end, to full-stack, but slowly but surely. I'll trust the process. One language at a time. Thanks bro!
This guy literally just showed working a 12 hour day. Humans were not designed to work that much every day. Why is this the goal now?! We should be on 4 day work weeks by now. Enjoy life man, why submit the majority of your life to make the CEO of a company more money? Do you.
@@njbraun this definitely wasn't 12 hours straight of working and was an atypical day. but yes agreed, chiller days are necessary to balance this out and prevent burnout long term
Couple of questions: 1) Any worry about working for a company that might end up eventually getting banned in the States? 2) Seems like you don't interact with your team in person very much - does your team ever get together for in person social events? Or does everyone just do their own thing? 3) Does the team ever get together to brainstorm ideas? Or are you basically just a worker bee?
1) there is always a worry, but my stance is that if we were to have been banned in the states if would've been in 2020, at this point I believe it is far too late. A sale to a large U.S. company is more probable in my opinion. 2) we do collaborate often since we come into the office on similar days, I just didn't show this on this particular day. we do often have social events, like team events and gatherings, so I think our team moral is great. 3) we have team meetings regularly and people are encouraged to brainstorm ideas on their own and then present them to the team at large, we definitely collaborate often as a company/team and aren't just working on our tasks heads down. hope this was helpful, best of luck man ♥️
This is crazy cool dude. I am an ex-SDE (iOS )now property manager that just moved to Seattle to get back into the tech industry. I've been told I need to study with neetcode, so I'm on it daily now, but rusty I'll admit. So cool to see someone with the same downtown views that I have right now post so recent! Nice video editing work btw!
neetcode is how I prepared for my last round of interviews as well, so you are on the right track :). you can definitely break back in, just keep solving the problems and understanding them deeply, best of luck man!
Great job on producing this. A nice little insight into post-pandemic hybrid work life. I don’t know you but I am proud of you lol. Your career and financial choices give me hope for this country’s next generation of leaders.
Working as a developer my self in Sweden I can say that this is very accurate! Except for the time he left the office. Here we work regular 9-5, and yes some days when you work from home you may stay a bit longer but that's not usual.
Subscribed!! Thank you for giving such amazing insight on your day in the life :) This is such a productive and disciplined day! I'll be on the lookout for new content
Hey Arman! This was an amazing insight to a day of a Software Engineer @ TikTok! If there are any open positions for FrontEnd in TikTok I would definitely like to apply and get interviewed by you! You seem a great role model for an undergrad like me who is about to graduate! Amazing Work! Cheers!
@@NUFCOfficial Hello, I was able to connect with him and it's not about him hiring me but making a connection so if and when I apply I am in their mutual. I understand you aren't remotely close to apply level so you won't get the reason why I wanted to connect. Also no I haven't used ChatGPT for comment. You would want to ask professionals formally to connect because they are not your buddies. Hope this was informational for you and you use it to create some positive move in your life rather than trying to drag others down. Best of Luck
Many people think being a software engineer is all peaches but the reality is that no matter what company you work for, you will put in extra hours, extra time if you want to get ahead. The amount of learning is unbelievable and it's always never enough. Because there will always be something else to learn, something new to implement. It truly is a grind and there is never an end in sight. Even a company with so called work/life culture still encourages learning always. It's great if you love to learn and don't want a repetitive job, it's tasking if learning a high volume of information in a short amount of time is too much for your brain to handle. However, eventually the constant learning does make you a pro and if you think about it, you get paid thousands of dollars just to learn. Can be a win/win situation for all parties involved if you think about it.
agreed, being a software engineer fundamentally is just about learning. If you can learn things quickly, then you will be an excellent software engineer. This is likely why we see the peak of developers while they are young and eager to learn, and less older folks in the industry as time progresses. I agree with your conclusion about it being a win/win for all parties, thats a great outlook to have.
I am currently going to school for software engineering. Videos such as this make me pumped for my future in this career field! I'm stumped though because I have two paths to choose between which is Java and C#. I know that is probably more personal research I need to do on my end, but do you have any input on this? I would love to know how you got started along with the steps you took to get you where you are now! Keep up the great content :)
I would go with the language that your courses are using since that will be more convenient. The language isn't important at all, it's more about the CS fundamentals that you learn such as data structures and algorithms. I will have a video going more in detail on all of this, but I think you are on the right track, just keep learning and building projects with the skills that you acquire. thank you and best of luck :)
I don't see the point for companies to have a hybrid work policy for people who go to the office like this and then not see anyone else that they work with because they're not there. Maybe there's a another benefit than you have a place to go outside your home for work. I just don't see anything else.
agreed, but I actually did collaborate a bunch with my coworkers on this day, just didn't show in the video. If you really don't meet with anyone in the office, then yea it is pointless
I think it depends on the person. I choose to go in Tues, wed, Thurs to the office. It's nice to get out of the house for 3 days a week. Most of my team picked the same schedule so we can collaborate in person.
And this is supposed to be work ? You`re lucky hold on to that job believe me that shit looks easy!! I`ve had jobs that are extremely stressful, yours looks like a day at the beach in comparison which its good for you :) Enjoy and don`t take it for granted.
agreed this is nothing compared to anyone who has to do physical labor for a living, this is a breeze, I try to always keep this in mind and not take anything for granted :)
Wow NEW subscriber, I love how simplistic and realistic this video was, plus love the vibes of the music and CC! (I changed my major from CS, BUT I still enjoy watching others in their element, very inspiring!)
Great video! That actually looked like a realistic and productive day in the life. Are most of the teamworks online? How much do you interact with people in your office?
I'd say usually about 50% of my teammates go into the office on any given day (mainly people who live nearby for the perks lol). Since we coordinate as a team, we hold most team meetings on our designated days and collaborate closely.
Free lunch and dinner so you stay working till 7.00pm. What a great life, from 8.30 am to 8.30pm, modern slavery, is what I would call it. I am a software developer myself, but would never trade my personal life for free food. They feed you and than they own you !
I appreciate how genuine this is! Keep it up man, I too have aspirations of being a SWE at a company like tiktok. I'm only in my second year, but are you guys hiring interns 😊?
I had the tech portion of the interview at tik tok that I decided to apply for before I started my first year back in school majoring in software development. Motivated me even more when I didn’t pass it.
u should make a vid on how u got the SWE job there, and your personal advice for people just coming in the field. great vid and love the format very aesthetic :) (i start my internships next spring, very nervous but these vids encourage me to work hard!)
Finally, a day in the life of male vlogger that doesn't involve going to the gym just for them to show off, the uncalled for and in now way important to the video, physique display. Thank you, sir.
Amazing video man! This is the life style I want to live: both simple and complex. I am a current CS major with a minor in mathematics. I am just about to go into second year CS! I look forward to the enlightening future that awaits my arrival :) Do you have any advice from software engineer to CS student? I'd love to hear back :))
I would say you are in quite possibly the best possible field of study/work, so the world is your oyster. I would tell you to focus on actually learning the material in your courses. It will all be relevant once you get to industry, and is really important to truly learn the fundamentals. Build projects, practice leetcode, rinse and repeat, best of luck man!
Everyone needs more than their salary to be financial stable. The best thing to do with your money is to invest it rightly, because money left for saving always end up used with no returns.
Lolol gotta love being forced to go into an office where you do the exact same stuff at home, costing you hours a week to commute/get ready/gas. Such a joke.
agreed working from office isn't always the best, but I do see some value in it when I get to meet with my manager and teammates. I think 1-2 times per week is very manageable.
@@armankhondker wouldn't you be able to do the same stuff at home? I work in tech and manage to do the same stuff at home. Old school heads still want to "see" their people in the office to ensure work is getting done when in reality work has been done for 1/5th the actual time needed.
@@armankhondker on unrelated note, I'm a junior CS at TAMU and will be interning in Redmond this summer. I think you'll be a great person to contact for career advice and/or quick resume reviews as I actively search for an FTE position after grad.
As a junior dev and Chelsea fan I thought Chelsea games would be my stress relief…ended up with more stress 😂😂 but code and soccer after is basically my life now too, tuff vid!
Hello! I really enjoy the speed of the video. It seems fast but you get so many info and different clips. I enjoyed it so much, continue with experiments 🔥😎btw you have an amazing office, lunch and dinner omg! 😜
I'm glad you didn't show things like working overtime without additional pay, long meetings that eat into your work time, and the perks like food, sleeping cubicles, gyms, playgrounds, etc that are aimed to keeping you away from home and your family. If you want a job that keeps you away from your real family and will possible lay you off in the next few years, then Software Engineering is the job for you.
Love the video man, this motivated me to follow my dream even though its vastly different. Wondering where you got that black hoodie. Looks like a nice fit. Keep it up brother.
