im 18 and ive decided that i wanted to be a travel nurse and after seeing this video and how realistic it is, i was kind of reconsidering but then i said to myself i can do it as long as i keep God with me. and also seeing you crying, taking a breather but getting back up and doing what you need to do motivates me not even me studying to be a nurse but other aspects in life. i just wanna thank you for giving such a realistic view on it because i know its not easy at all & it can really effect your mental health if you arent doing self care.

Agree if you care ( and sadly young people are getting into this thinking its great money and because a experienced nurse makes it look easy it is ) I have had those nurses work with me and also as a patient experienced lack of care. Unfortunately they will survive and the good ones will just end up having to leave the bedside for sanity’s sake. I do not expect nursing to change as long as we do not demand it of leadership or healthcare ( patients and families included)

As a nurse, I felt this. The struggle is real and rampant in many nursing settings. Change will only come when the patients/residents/clients advocate for and demand it. The healthcare industry is a scam and doesn’t give a damn. Those of us that are natural nurturers and caregivers get sucked into this field only to find that it is not as advertised lol

How'd you like the OR???
@Tomatohater64
@Tomatohater64 2 года назад
Laly Pop, I enjoyed working with my peer group and anesthesia personnel. Most surgeons are tolerable but the titanic insufferableness, arrogance, conceit, megalomania, and God-like thirst for power that many surgeons relish became too much for me after many years, so I left. Got tired of seeing competent, experienced, well-educated, O.R. knowledgeable nurses getting talked to like they were 8-year-olds. I've seen nurses hit by surgeons with filthy bloody gloves, not to mention having their jobs and careers threatened. If you work in the O.R., you better have supremely thick skin and nerves of steel or you'll never last. I've also known too many solid O.R. nurses who became alcoholics and/or drug addicts as a way of "coping" with the inexorable stress of this job along with a woeful lack of support. The best O.R. nurse I ever worked with, totally unknown to me, flew to Florida every other weekend to feed her cocaine habit - true story. A healthy off-the-job routine is necessary. I chose to invest in my health by going to the gym as often as possible. If you can take the heat, you can make decent money.
@lalypop449
@lalypop449 2 года назад
@@Tomatohater64 oh wow!!!! I really appreciate the insight! Does the surgeon even get in trouble for assaulting the nurses? Did you see this more as travel OR nurse, because I was thinking about looking more into that but it's always good to ask about people's experience first. Thank you!
@Tomatohater64
@Tomatohater64 2 года назад
@@lalypop449 The nurse who caught a bloody backhand straight to her chest during surgery was going to quit and sue the offending surgeon. This is what she told me herself. She was brought into the hospital's administrative offices. She was told how much money Dr. Such & Such brought into the hospital every year. Then she was asked how much money SHE brought into the hospital every year - which was, of course, nothing. They told her to keep her mouth shut and accept Dr. Such & Such's apology if she didn't want any future "difficulties." The nurse told me that Dr. Such & Such approached her shortly thereafter and said this to her: "Well, they told me I had to apologize to you, so there." That was his verbatim "apology" to this woman who was assaulted by him in the O.R. Two months later, she resigned her position and took an out-of-state O.R. position that paid her much more money. I never heard from her again. To answer your question; no, I never saw or heard of any surgeon getting into serious trouble for acting inappropriately toward staff but then again, what's the legal definition of "inappropriate?" As a traveling nurse, I saw this garbage to a lesser degree mainly because it is assumed that you know what you're doing when you walk in the door. You'll get a day or two of basic orientation. Then it's sink or swim. After over 3 decades of full time effort, I placed my license on inactive status and permanently retired from the entire field.

I’ve been ER nursing for 6.5 years and have already left my full time job at bedside for another career. I still work PRN, but a lot of issues you highlighted are true for many places. I have been a nurse for 34 years. Nursing has not changed with its bs in all those years in every field I have been a nurse. TFS your shifts. I worked days, nights, evenings ( I have been a RN for a long time) I rarely got enough fluids or proper lunch breaks. The more technology the worse nursing jobs have gotten. I have done many kinds of nursing its just a common theme and frankly nursing leadership rarely last if they actually lead nurses. They do not they are about the corporation. I am so sorry. Nursing is a work of the heart. I cannot do bedside nursing I have had so many injuries. This is what causes nurses to leave when you get so stressed! Case management is not any better. I’m a nurse in Germany and I can relate to your vent.. they treat nurses pretty much the same all around the world. They forget that we carry a patient’s life on our shoulders and having 7 patients per shift that’s 7 lives.. And if anything goes wrong all of that stuff is on you.. u work so many days with no break it’s hard mentally and physically... our job is really not appreciated as it should be

I agree with you 100% SELF CARE is sooo IMPORTANT, especially if you’re a nurse or in healthcare! We as nurses are always busy caring for others and we sometimes but ourselves on the back burner😳Take care of yourself first so you can take care of others😃

Tech here...I've learned too to limit as much as possible how much I enter into the patients room unless it's of course neccessary otherwise. I know that it tends to bother them especially on nightshift when you consistently go in and out of their room unnecessarily. They appreciate all of the peace they can get as I do too. Time management and organization in this field are so essential. Good vlog.

It is so comforting to know that I'm not the only one that feels this way, when I'm overwhelmed with patients who require a level of care I cannot give them on my own when I have another 5 patients. I've been so frustrated with my job as a new nurse but at least I'm not the only one. No one should be made to cry because the conditions of their work are unsafe. I am still pretty new in the field of nursing and I feel completely exhausted psychically and mentally. Thanks for sharing!
