Hi Lish. I’m starting my first role as an HR intern next month and quite nervous as like you I’ve done a masters in HR, but I still don’t really know what I’m going to be getting myself into as I’ve never worked in an HR department before! Could you talk about some of the tasks you do on a daily basis as an HR administrator and how you manage your time effectively/and any tips when starting out? Thank you!!

Hi Tanya, yes of course I can! I will be doing a mini series on the tasks I do as an HR Administrator and giving you an in depth overview of what each task is about so you have an idea of what an HR Administrator does :) I think this is a great idea. I was the same too when I started out in HR, I didn't actually know much about what you actually do in the role so stay tuned as my next video will be based on this :)

I have a degree in music but I want to work in HR. Any tips on applying ?

Hi, I would look at LinkedIn as there are quite a few HR jobs which you can apply too. I would make sure you tailor your CV to fit the job description. Make sure your are highlighting your transferrable skills that you gained from music that may relate to soft skills within HR. Are you working at the moment, skills for a job you are doing currently can also be applied to your cv as transferrable skills to make sure your application is a good as it can be.

How long was training for when you first started this job?

When I started this job, I already had my HR intern experience within the same company so I already knew the basics of the role from that. I would say the initial training of getting used to all of the systems lasted a few months, but it is on the job learning as new tasks come up all the time. I am still continuously learning.
