Lovely! This is off-topic but really love your jumper, I guess you would say "sweater?" All I do for Christmas is have bunting, but I like all your Christmassy, but still somehow unobtrusive ornaments. I guess because they are not in Christmassy colours. Hi Katie! Back when I still played, I would have reed related nightmares (clarinet). My reed was pristine, and sometime between the end of warmups and the first down beat, it looked like it had been chewed up by a beaver! Time to wake up now!!

hi Katie! My friend and I have been working our butts off trying to better at flute, and we really want to go to Julliard! (it's our biggest dream, and were pretty advanced, but still in middle school, both of us have played piccolo for 1 yr.) Have any tips or tricks for us?

I once dreamed that I was fully prepared for a big solo performance only to turn up and realise I was just on time. But then i realised i had left my flute at home 🤭😅 It was so traumatising at the time and i thought it was real. I sometimes still think about it! (Yes cold flutes are the worst, especially right before performances in a cold room) 😂

Maybe you’ve addressed this but I’ve always wondered about how you practice in your apartment building. Do neighbors mind? Are the walls soundproof?

I am not Katie, but I also live in the city and the answer is definitely not sound proof, most people don't mind as long as it's reasonable, and I try and make an effort to not be too loud, but it happens. I try and practice during the middle of the day when a lot of people are out. If I *really* needed to, we do have a legal right to practice.

I'm team digital checklist. I find it pretty effective when combined with a timeline. Each day's notes include anything carried over undone from the day. When I complete a task, I check its checkbox, and I never carry checked-off items into the next day. That way I always have a record of what day it got done. Was going back to school as no-longer-student weird or nostalgic?

One of my craziest musicians anxiety dreams was one where I just fell asleep and arrived late to an orchestra concerto, we were playing Tchaikovsky 4th symphony and when I arrived the symphony has already started😰 it totally felt like a nightmare, I remember waking up so agitated haha😂

My last musician anxiety dream was, that I forgot to go on stage. Then an other musician played for me, but she was a violinist playing with a pink toy flute. (I play flute)😂

Paper AND digital! I can't have too many reminders, notebooks and lists. Siri lives on my wrist to take my reminder requests, and I have a huge collection of Prismacolors to decorate my doodles and washi tape to affix all the little bits I save aside for the folders. (Seriously, be careful about collecting washi tape. Total rabbit hole. 🙃) Oh and the performance anxiety dream! My grade-school orchestra teacher came to me once in a dream, baton in hand, and got all over me about not practicing my assignment, making me try to play an etude over and over to no avail in front of the whole, dead-silent class...and I'm 50-something. LOL!

Yes, I have to have it on paper, girl, just like you.....though purple is my color, so it's purple flowers for me, and purple ink, of course! Oh, and a bad musician dream I had was in college, I dreamed I missed the bus for a high school band trip....which I never did, but it felt so real, I sometimes second guess whether I actually did or not!

First of all: I have never played in front of an orchestra. But while I was still a student at the Music Conservatory in Denmark, I once had this nightmare of a dream of me, arriving late at a concert. It turned out that everybody was just waiting for me to arrive: The audience was there. The orchestra was there, ready to play. The conductor was there on the podium, impatiently tapping his foot. I then entered the stage and started unpacking my flute. But then I discovered that I hadn't brought any music with me, and that I had absolutely no idea which flute concerto the orchestra was going to play. Ready or not - the conductor raised his baton, and the orchestra started playing. I remember that I woke up with cold sweat on my forehead and a high pulse. 😁

I once dreamt that I was called to play trombone with the Chicago Symphony where I had to sight-read the Mahler 3rd Symphony because there was no time for rehearsal and I'd never played it. That symphony has huge trombone parts in it. The laughable part about that is that I've never played in any orchestra more advanced than my university orchestra and also the semi-professional civic orchestra in the town, nor have I ever aspired to do so. (I'm a lifetime musician but mainly a composer. Long story I won't lengthen this comment with.)
