My first travel team lost our first 43 games before we finally won. It took more than a calendar year, losing some players, and completely changing our team name and uniform, and some 66-2 losses but we finally won

Glad I'm not the only one. I'm coaching a new team - it was put together through our local Babe Ruth affiliated league to be the BRL 12U tournament team. Because the entire team that would have been the 12u team this year, left the league, we put together a team of kids that have always been average to above average rec league players. We're playing warm up tournaments and getting a our butts kicked. Pretty sure if we play 43 games we'll lose 43 games, but we are improving in every game. Rough to keep the motivation up though.

@@ScottHirons it takes dedication from the players not only the coaches. When some kids quit and joined a new team there were others that joined and stepped up

The kids arriving early playing catch reminded me of when I was in little league and us and some of our parents played this hilarious prank on coach for his birthday. We all got there early for a scheduled practice and started playing a scrimmage game backwards, lol - so instead of running to first after you hit the ball you ran to third, and then coach gets there and he's like "what is going on?" and we're all like "we're playing a scrimmage warming up" and he's like "no why are you playing that way?" and we're like "what way? we're playing hard like you taught us coach" and he's like confused and was like "why are you playing backwards?" and we and the parents there were like "what are you talking about? are you ok today coach? is age getting to you" haha and we continue playing our scrimmage and he's like "someone better tell me whats going on right now!" hahaha... The parents were clapping whenever one of us got a hit like it was normal baseball... We literally did this for like a half hour, the coach just stood there dumbfounded and then after a while he just walked away and got in his car like he was leaving and everyone starts laughing... It was great.. He was like "I thought I was in a different dimension or universe", hahaha... That is probably the best baseball prank I was ever involved in..

@@SuperBaller No, when I was in little league I wanted to be a professional hockey player - heck I still do, lol... I never thought of or wanted to be an MLB player, at least it never occurred to me. It was always hockey 24/7/365.

Much props for everything you do in your travel program. The players are fortunate to have you as an organizer, teacher, and leader! The only unfortunate thing that has been a byproduct of travel ball is the deterioration of American Legion leagues. Lots of kids are choosing travel/tournament ball over Legion ball. I was an assistant coach for a Legion team and I miss those July 4 doubleheaders. But it is progress, I guess. Love your videos and your passion for the game. Dirk Hayhurst put you in a good light in "Out of My League" and it is very easy to see why! Many thanks.

Man when I was in high school I can remember we hosted a tournament and it rained so much the night before we got to the field at 6 am and worked on the field for 6 hours and got it into shape for games to be played. Then we went and took a nap and then played baseball that afternoon

I hear ya man about crying or being bummed out when you were a kid. I remember the only times I hit a homeruns was 2 in the same game and the 3rd at bat they intentional walked me lol as like a 9 year old. I take that back I did hit an in the park homerun in highschool those earlier ones were over the fence.

I remember field prep my senior year. Since I couldn't play, I got put in charge of my teammates who got punished with prepping the diamond before our home games (though we played in a city-run park). We did better that the Parks Dept. would do.
