It’s a large career field so it ends up being a ymmv situation. It was great for me. Four years active, another 17 in the guard. It directly led to me getting into federal LE (USMS). No complaints.
6 years active duty SP in the 80s and I was fortunate that for my second assignment I ended up at base in Europe with a lot of unique opportunities, so I got to do some really cool sh*t. Bu that cool sh*t aside, most of the time was cold, boring, and sleepy because the majority of the duty for Airmen is standing a gate or ECP somewhere. Once you made NCO it got a little better with more mobile vehicle assignments available, but until then you'll be counting rivets and checking badges.
Why do people hate the USAF SF so much when they are literally the same as the MP units from the other branches? Like SF is just military police that also do security. Freaking Navy MPs are called MA's and they literally do the same work as SF, force protection and LE. Army MPs do the same shit, force protection and LE. Marine MPs do the same, force protection and LE. CG ME's do the same force protection and LE. Literally the only thing that's different is the backdrop. SF you work on airbases, CG/Navy you work around ships and ports. wow what a difference.
Actually SecFo isn’t LE anymore, it’s purely infantry and security now. It’s hated because of toxic leadership and it’s used as a place to send wash outs.
@@xWE4PONS Not anymore, you’re correct that the IC use to be able to control it. However, reading AFI36-2903, ball caps are an official clothing item. They can be worn in place of the patrol cap, no permission required
Description says this was from this year so no reason they should be using the UselessCamouflagePattern I thought that was fazed out around 2010 with Multicam then Multicam was replaced by OCP in 2016
Nope those were airmen and the third guy was wearing a flight suit. There’s still some bases in the Army that haven’t got full OCP with their gear *cough Fort Lewis cough* Also airmen might be seen wearing UCP stuff for their basic training/tech school as there’s a huge supply of it.
@@Orca19904 Like they said, items mainly used in training environments. I know my base bought some and just snagged a bunch of old ABU and UCP gear stuff to use for training so they wouldn’t have to use all the OCP stuff. Makes sense to use the outdated stuff for training and not the operational equipment.
@@ranchnbeanz3017 Depression, alcoholism, misery, back pain, shoulder pain, long work days, leadership fucking ur ass every chance they get. This is just to name a few
I was SF for 18 years before cross training. It started out a decent career field. I started as SF in 98. Fast forward down the road. They got full of themselves thinking it was special forces. We started doing dumb shit like rescuing down pilot drills. Taking down terrorists. It was ridiculous. Not sure what it's like today but it went south fast when I was in. Tech school could have been 4 weeks and it would have been plenty
officers will never be on patrol or do anything that enlisted do unless they really want to get out of the office however this disrupt the enlisted members attention from their job and can be a distraction. For the most part they're only Admin in offices and the commander unless you're an LT, then you will lead a flight for maybe a year.
I mean SF is literally just military police, anyone that doesn't see the usefulness of MPs prolly should educate themselves. But nothin is gonna stop dudes from shit talkin other branches or jobs shits just part of it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
@@toastyshrimp1882 I've talked to several both my own step brother who's a detective in SF and been with them 8+ years and a lot from the air force reddit. I've also talked to a lot of maintainers that want to die from the same problems, army infantry that hate their lives because all they do is train and shit work that isn't even their job. There are over 130 jobs in the AF not all of them are gonna be pilots or PJs. I'd rather be a cop than a maintainer or cook. Edit: not to mention that has nothing to do with my original comment. All I said was SF are just AF MPs. You saying it's useless is basically saying any MP entity is useless which is retarded
@@droidbait4544 I mean obviously they aren't ACTUALLY useless, it's just one of the most boring jobs you could pick. I guess I'd rather be secfo than 11b but that doesn't mean secfo is a blast it's just better than being shot at lol
@@toastyshrimp1882 my father retired after 27 years in security forces and loved every second of it. Won Airmen of the year in 1995. He was the lead detective on McConnell AFB and helped execute the arrest and interrogation of Terry Nichols after the OKC bombing!
It's something like that. there mission is to protect duty bases and airman at all times. They do have a law enforcement aspect to them. If your surcurety forces you do have a chance to go into enemy territory but it depends.
@@someone-uh3zo What lol 😆 don't know if you've ever been deployed but every single rotation I went on security forces and MPs did the exact same thing they do stateside. Drive around on larger fobs like bagram giving tickets for not wearing set belts and pulling gate guard lol
@@carsonkouts that's what I'm saying. Securety forces are the law enforcement of the air force. what are you trying to get at other than what I've already said.
It's hard to convey just how much being Security Forces sucks. Most of the heavy lifting is done by Civilians. You are essentially a glorified gate guard. Air Crew or Special Ops, otherwise stay clear of the Chair Force.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 First line of defense? Most of the time, I see Local PD working gates 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Let’s not forget about the PJ or TACP instructors at Lackland that would handle any issue on post if necessary 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Those are Dept. of the Air Force civilian police officers that work hand in hand with Security Forces. And those big bad PJ/TACP instructors don't carry, nor have access to, any firearms. Do your homework next time.
@@alanshearer3682 security forces is a poorly manned career field and if the base ur stationed at doesn’t have enough manpower, you’ll be working 12-14 hours shifts with no lunch breaks. Keep in mind that everybody in the military gets paid the same amount of money so you’ll be working all of those hours being security forces and getting paid the same amount as someone who only works 8 hours a day and gets 1 hour lunch breaks. My best advice for you is to stay away from this career field and choose wisely.
