Wonderful, windy Wyoming! Law Enforcement at Warren 67-69! Went from below zero temperatures to 95 plus in Viet Nam , March, 1969. What a difference a day makes!

It's the worst job in the Air Force. I got K9 right after tech school. I guarded parked aircraft, ammo bunkers, and walked along perimeter fences in artic cold weather. I checked the same ID cards for years. We guarded missiles on farms. They've never once moved. It was painfully boring. We worked 24/7, weekends and holidays, during 12-hour shifts, for the same pay as everyone else working 8-hr tours, bank hours. The extended hrs and weekend duty complicated using the gym to prepare for PT tests or to attend college. Gate guard duty is not police work, but we called ourselves cops. The USAF is big on volunteering. We did this to obtain good evaluations which aided in promotions. Imagine working at a church after a midnight, while knowing you have to report back in a few hrs for another midnight. Security Guard Forces is much as police work as a school crossing guard. It never helped me once becoming a city police officer. Avoid this job. The Asvab requirement ties with becoming a cook.

@@thomasryan2679 thanks for the tips I didn’t know I needed! Definitely gonna be looking at different job opportunities, took my practice test and got a pretty good score so hopefully the practice Asvab will be as good. Thanks for the insight

I think this was a great video in the SFS point of view. Retired last year after way more than 20 years in that AFSC. They did a great job to capture part of what they are capable of and how it looks. Good job on this vid.

If you want to be a police officer, I would not do Security Forces. It's security first, then law enforcement as an after thought. I know many sergeants in SF who are absolutely clueless as to what they're doing in law enforcement.

I say if you want to be a police officer this is a door into that. It is security first but it will make agencies like border patrol, US Marshals, even secret service and DEA look more at you vs other people. Get you a 4 yr contract and spend those 4 years gaining experience and building your resume.

Serving in the military has hardships. It's a strain of families, children attending schools, and with deployments. It really sucks when Security Guard Forces are trying to play real cop and write personnel cheesy tickets. These are security guards who've never made an arrest, participated in a Grand Jury investigation, or had conferences with prosecutors involving search warrants or wiretaps. Great gate guards checking ID cards or guarding parked aircraft though. Checking ID cards is the work guards do at my condo for minimum wage. The Asvab requirement ties with becoming a cook.

Sorry you got an Article 15 after violating the Uniform Code of Military Justice…..but don’t take it out on an entire career field! Save some salt for the rest of the service members……

@@williams1295There's nothing like someone making guesses without a factual basis. Isn't that where the term "lifer" comes from? That's why you tied with cooks on qualifications. I applied to my city PD like any other applicant and got hired. We had 22000 applicants for 300 positions. I get paid overtime for any extension from my shift. Security Guard Forces never helped me any. My police pension is going to be 17k monthly, with 4k Social Security, and 4k from deferred comp. You can cut my lawn after walking around aircraft for 12 hours.

@@thomasryan2679 first of all, with the education level of your English writing style, I’d say you probably were number 300 accepted. And that’s with veterans preference points applied 😂. It’s Security Forces. I’m glad you’re happy to be writing what you will receive and that’s good. Being in service means there’s a certain amount of sacrifice required. Sorry if you aren’t willing to be sacrificial, and that’s why you aren’t in the military. Those who are truly dedicated and want to change that culture stay in. And btw, I’ll be retired two times and making your full salary in pensions at the same time you’re eligible to be retired…..so I’ll mow your lawn for free since you’ll need the extra money 😂

P.S. Social Security is not guaranteed….do your research. That pot of money is not expected to be there soon. And if it is, everyone is entitled to Social Security so there’s zero points awarded there for you.

@Higypp: Retired E-8 with over 26 years with Security Police/Security Forces/CATM. I've interfaced with all branches and three letter agencies during my career including several deployments in Iraq. Each branch has different missions and cultures. That does not make one branch better than the other. One TEAM. One FIGHT. I'm in contact to this day with a Devil Dog that had his troops about to be slaughtered in 2004 but didn't know how to call in an airstrike (He didn't know the proper nomenclature and sequence the AIR FORCE required). I was attached to an off base convoy in the Balad area. Fortunately, we had an Air Force Combat Controller who knew how to call in an airstrike and likely saved many lives including Marines and civilians. You've obviously have never been in combat or at a FOB. Until you do, your ignorance will always be your shortcoming. When in combat we are all the same.
