Staten Island is not really forgotten in comparison to other cities like St. Louis, Birmingham AL and a bunch of other cities in the Midwest and the South. At least Staten Island is busy with life and an economy. Many other cities in America have suffered from population decline and are almost ghost towns in their downtown areas.

Years ago, I used to do the 5 borough bike ride. Staten Island was the last one everyone rode onto. Then we all took the Staten Island ferry back to Manhattan.

I was born and raised in Long Island, too!! Glad to see you were in my new beautiful borough. So many hidden gems here. Now I'm going to watch the video! Richmondtown, yes...very cute and beautiful. Historic. So other places you would love: Silver Lake park, Snug Harbor, The Conference House, The boardwalk in South Beach. On and on...a lot of great restaurants, too.

So, I guess that you are saying that Staton Island isn’t really an island. Or did I hear wrong? How far is it from Long Island?

Staten Island is an island, it’s surrounded by water. Only borough in NYC on mainland is Bronx. You can get to Long Island from SI 45 minutes however if there is traffic forget about it can take a good 2-3 hours.
