Daybreaker Anthem is a newly added song to Splatoon 3 by Deep Cut that plays right after Splatfests. It is a bittersweet and emotional tune that is trying to hit you in the feels. Let's check out why this has quickly turned into one of my favorite songs from Splatoon 3!

I mean, I couldn't really hear it in game cause I don't have the game, but when Shiver started hitting those high notes during the chorus, I've felt happiness I've never felt before lol The entire song is such a treat to listen to, and I loved your breakdown and especially the skits lol

So referencing something from the main game is actually a bit of a tradition for splatoon credits themes. Maritime melody referenced calamari inkantation, fresh start referenced bomb rush blush and tide goes out, into the light referenced color pulse, and now, daybreaker’s anthem referenced anarchy rainbow.

@@RadiantBlazeVA well, considering maritime memory was available in S1 at launch, while city of color was only in splatfests which didn’t start until a bit after launch, it’s safe to say that city of color is referencing maritime memory, not the other way around.

This was literally my very first Splatfest, as well as the first anniversary of Splatoon 3. It was probably one of the biggest and most fun memories I've ever made, and this song was the perfect topper

I thought I was the only one who just sat there when this came on…and was reminded of how much I’ve loved this game while hearing this song. From the moment the game was announced to this last splatfest. I’ve always had a soft spot for the slower/ending credit Splatoon idol group songs (especially live versions), so I relate to this so much

This song was perfect for relaxing after just playing a really stressful and competitive splatfest. Many people were really energetic, and probably needed a song that could make them change their state of mind, lower their energy to a healthy level and make them relax. It was a really pleasant surprise to hear that song after the splatfest.

I had my location set to Inkopolis when the fest ended, and there Maritime Melody plays. Not a new song, but hearing it in game for the first was a _huge_ nostalgia hit. I just kinda sat there for a few loops of the track. I don’t know how to describe it, but I definitely felt something, because I booted up Octo Expansion for the first time since Splatoon 3 launched, and beat Inner Agent 3 in 15 minutes, which I couldn’t do with even with almost 10 hours of attempts in my initial 100% push.

I stayed in Splatsville for the last part of the Fest, since it's Deep Cut's fest. I spent some time listening to it, feeling the tiredness, talking about it. I did get emotional upon paying attention it. Where did I nearly break? Dropping by Inkopolis to see the post-Fest cleanup. I was not expecting Maritime Memory.

Yeah, it made me emotional too 🥲, thats for sure. I was really surprised when this song popped out and yes, i also was just sitting there and listening to it for... i don't even know how long but surely i listened it few times. I love this type of bittersweet music and they nailed it with this one.

Bittersweet music is quite severely underrated, but it has to fit a specific purpose most of the time too, so that's probably why you don't hear it that often.

When I finished the Splatfest and heard this song, I was struck. I was stuck there for a good 2 hours, just listening to Daybreaker Anthem. I fell in love immediately with it, and I made such a big deal about it to my friends... lol. I've loved this tune since. It's among my all-time favorites for Splatoon.

man when i first heard this song in the city i was just in awe and had to listen to it the whole way through, and the anarchy rainbow part almost made me burst into tears on the spot idk what happened but my god it activated every neuron in my brain. and then when it stopped playing in the city it started playing in the lobby instead are they TRYING to make me sob right before an anarchy match my god

I really like this song, it reminds me a lot of Into the light by off the hook, the give me that same vibe, they all have a reference to the song that play in the plaza during splatfest, they both sound amazing, but you can’t win when the other song is from octo expansion

Maybe it’s also helping to check Japanese title of this music. It’s “再見オネノネノン”, the first part is actually Chinese language and meaning “good bye”, and オネノネノン could be “on and on and on”. I’m pretty sure this music lets listeners experience and remind melancholic emotion of after festival, and I feel some Chinese elements in the music. And I always cry listening to live music of Splatoon series every time. I feel you.

Not entirely accurate. Japanese uses Chinese characters in their language and is called Kanji, so 再見 actually exists in Japanese, which in this case means "to re-watch" and not "goodbye" in Chinese. Though the Japanese version of Splatoon is full of word puns so who knows As for the Chinese elements in the music you heard, although similar in some ways, I'm still quite sure that it's still supposed to be Japanese elements due to the established cultural influences the trio gets their music from.

@@hummingbird71 funfact, most japanese gamers on X (Twitter) think that "再見" in the song title is chinese which means "see you". considering that most of the scenes in Splatoon 3's maps and plazas resemble Hong Kong, it's also possible that the word could be chinese.

Actually since I was in Inkopolis Plaza when the Splatfest finished, I didn't get to hear this song at all😢 But, I did find out that Maritime Melody played in Inkopolis instead, which gave me instant goosebumps and nostalgia. Amazing analysis of this one though, definitely one of my favorite songs from Splatoon rn!

OMG, yes. I get that the Squid Sisters had a tradition of doing solo mode credits but their involvement basically gave Deep Cut "lesser" importance. Imagine though: hearing this song in ROTM credits only to see not a single Indian name from the part of the credits that features Namco Bandai Singapore and Malaysia - you know, actual countries that have Indian populations. 😬😬😬 On second thought, I'm happy with the Squid Sisters.

1 year of Splatfest and so much has happened in Splatoon 3. For me it was the case that for the first few weeks I was just looking. Day and night. Then came the first Splatfest and I had a lot of x10 and x100 fights and then I had the big surprise. The x333 fight. OMG I remember screaming with joy when I got it and won. That's exactly what happened to me at the last Splatfest. It was just beautiful. Daybreaker Anthem by Deep Cut is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. The song is so emotionally structured that it gave me the creeps at certain parts of the song. For me, such emotional music and this song in particular is so epic, also by Shiver, Frye and BigMan, that their singing can sometimes bring tears to your eyes. You can never forget the bitter-sweet aftertaste of the great music and if you listen to the song for too long, you'll definitely get a catchy tune after a while. i feel you.

Since this song wasn't in the game at launch I kinda wish they waited until the final fest to add the song to the game and played it much longer than ot currently does after the fest. That would've made the song hit so much harder and I would've loved it. I already know for a fact this is gonna be the song they'll use for the splatfest montage video that they will inevitably make like they did with S1 and S2.

Once the splatfest was over I heard the first note of this and I remmebered getting a few seconds of datamine spoilers. I figured this was that song. Everyone thought it would be for side order but I could tell it was deep cut so I figured it wasn’t. I dat there until the song ended then did some splatoon chores. I think I ended up listening to it for about 15 minutes, 3 times.

I think this song is very similar to Closing Time by Semisonic in terms of the feeling it gives out. Closing time tries to encapsulate that feeling of the end of night out with friends. It's the feeling of having a lot of fun and then it ends when you get home.

I mean, colourism is an unspoken, unacknowledged thing (speaking, of course, as a Desi; we deal with that in our own ethnicity, and it exists between Asian identities). Not sure if that tweet is it. 🤔 But, I do wonder at something. Choosing between characters whose music felt something like ethnic stereotypes felt eh to me personally, like, "how DO you expect to make that choice of course Japanese culture, which has been represented in the series from day 1, will take it" 🤷🏽‍♀️
