Days 158-162 | I Did Mahoosuc Notch with a Broken Ankle 😱 | 2024 Appalachian Trail Thru Hike 

If I had any doubts about whether or not you were a bad ass or a stud muffin this makes ALL the doubt go away. You're a brave soul to pushing through the Notch and then trekking down to the town to get looked at. Not sure a lot of other people could do that, but you did. I hope the boys hung out with you as you took your recovery time since until you get to Hanover it can be pretty harrowing. Again, you're an amazing woman.

Sorry to hear about your ankle. I wish we could have helped you. We live across the bridge from the hospital and could have picked you all up on success rd. Never know what day it is when we watch the videos. Praying you continue to to have an uneventful thru hike. Glad you have more hikers to hike with. Take care! Glad she did not come home, she would not be happy until she finished this trail. I had everyone praying for her that she would heal and continue. When she told me she was going to do this I prayed she would not go but I knew if it was God's will it was going to take place. My anxiety on the day we took her to start the trail had me concerned I could not handle it because I was concerned for her safety. I knew I did not want to feel this way until she came home. I am not one to have anxiety, so I just prayed for peace and I have been good. There have been times I was a little concerned when I did not hear from her in a timely manner. I know that God will take care of her because she has always been one of his children. She has been thru a lot. My scariest time was when she was 2 months old and stopped breathing, I prayed my hardest then. I knew after she turned blue and my brother finally got her breathing she was meant to be here. The AT has been an adventure for me and her father too, tracking her and helping her with various things with the AT book she left here with information. I had really hoped she would be ready to come back in a month. This trail is a lot more challenging than someone who has never done it could imagine. It is something I would never want to do.

I’m glad you were able to make it through the notch with the help of good friends! Hope the ankle doesn’t give you too much trouble and you are able to continue your journey! You are one tough girl!!

Wow!! Good for you for staying strong and hiking on!! Amazing So nice to have friends who have your back or pack lol glad you weren’t alone, but the zoleo not sending a message makes me concerned. I hope you ah e checked into that and why it didn’t. I mean isn’t that exact circumstance why we carry it? Keeping heading to your destination and you are stronger than you think (obviously)

Gotta love your spirit and your spunk, Marissa. Even after that scary accident, you were having so much fun going through the notch with your goofy friends. Grateful that they showed up. I never thought in the early days of your hike that you would one day keep me on the edge of my seat like this. My son got one of those fractures in his hand last year. It’s crazy how much bruising and swelling it caused. Best wishes for speedy healing ❤️‍🩹

Of course, I knew from watching your update from a couple weeks ago basically what the outcome of your ankle was going to be, it's still great to know you're doing well and still moving. It's really great that you had people with you and that you weren't hiking alone when your injury occurred. I must say, I got a couple laughs with you folks going through the Notch, there was some good humor there. It actually looked like a pretty good time. I hope to get to see it sometime in the future, but as of now I don't know when that will be because I'm currently my 84 year-old mother's caregiver and.... That being said, I have for the most part collected most all of my gear and get out and hike with it when life's other obligations and tasks allow. I will tell you again how much I enjoy and look forward to your updates. Stay strong and keep on moving, I know you're getting closer and closer to your finish, but with how much fun you appear to be having, I could almost see you continuing SOBO with your tramily once you complete. Wow, I was afraid this was the end of your hike! I'm so glad it is not as bad as it could have been. I had an avulsion fracture once (fell down the stupid stairs in my stupid house) and I was in a boot for a couple of weeks. It might be a tiny fracture, but it hurts a lot. I'm proud of you for not panicking and taking the time you need to assess and heal a little.

Avulsion fractures are no joke. That little tiny piece of bone is attached to a ligament and they both need to heal. I'm SO glad that your days off made it possible to keep on hiking! Yay Mosey!

Wow, I can't imagine how hard that would have been with out someone to carry your pack for you! I recently soloed the notch NOBO and found myself desperately wishing for someone to help with packs going through the cave. You did awesome and I'm so glad this was not the end of your hike!
