Your humor keeps getting better. I appreciate your current experiences. I own land in the high desert. I lived in a tent for 3.5 years. During that time I went through 3 tents that literally blew apart during high winds in the middle of the night. These were 12x 20 tents equipped with wood stoves and other cool stuff. I wished that I had captured your humor back then. Once when my Anorak tent blew apart, I think I pissed my pants. Winds had gusts to 90 mph.

Hey Kelly! Mother Nature is fo-sho testing you, but wow she gave you a beautiful morning hug with that rainbow! I know you don’t want to hear it, but the Big Agnes would have done better in the wind. But you did the right thing using the rock to block some of the wind. Huge thanks to Mrs Betty for the ride. Julian is such an awesome town. Im glad you got some apple pie. Huge thanks to moms for supporting all the hikers. Good choice with the liner. It should help. I am sorry for all the struggles. Seems like you knocked out all the issues, but it sucks there were so many all at once. 🙏 Thanks for bringing us along today. I hope tomorrow’s miles are kind. Keep truckin’ and be well. -Grateful

They say embrace " the suck" when hiking trails. You both are doing great. I think it is awesome the local businesses support the thru hikers. The pie and ice cream looked great along with all the other food. Keep going! 🌻🌻

Sorry you were cold. I feel your pain. I was out on the Mogollon Rim in AZ Easter weekend and couldn't sleep the 3rd night. I shivered the whole time. It got down to 29 degrees. I even had my smartwool thermals. So glad I didn't take my dog. He hates the cold too. I would've felt so guilty. I hope your butt pee is gone! I had that on my trip too. Beginning to think a stomach bug is going around.

@S M I have section hiked parts. I plan to do it all eventually. I was close to the AZT on my trip. I didn't see a soul the first day. Met a couple on the 2nd and 2 guys with SARS looking for that hiker that went missing few months ago. Saw several herds of elk but I didn't see the Mogollon monster or aliens 😉 It is a very beautiful area! Definitely recommend it or the Superstitions.

Embrace the suck! At least it's not raining all the time! No postholing(yet)! The views are fantastic! You're doing great! For a change of pace musically try "Goose Creek Symphony" (you might've heard of them they're from your neck of the woods) or "Howlin' Wolf" (gritty blues).

Kelly, just remember this.....nothing you've had to endure so far this year is even close to what you went through last year with your ovary. When you're having a bad day, just put yourself in that same situation last year and you'll be so happy it's only bad weather, tent blowing, etc. as opposed to being in the ER. Hang in there...I know it's cliche-ish but...."What doesn't kill you will only make you stronger." Stay strong....we're with you!

The liner gives you flexibility and keeps the sleeping bag cleaner. A light blanket that can cover the two of you will help you share warmth. Good Luck, Rick

The wind and sand issues seem to be a consistent theme with PCT hiking. I’ve already made a note to take take a freestanding low profile tent. While your big Agnes will be heavier I think it would be worth considering the gear trade out.

Expect some gravy, baby! The trail always dishes out the crap 1st. You know this. Then on to the good stuff. It ebbs & flows. The degree of awesome is always in direct proportion to the degree of crap.

Santa Ana winds from the East can exceed 80 mph. Don not camp on high exposed areas. Shelter from winds. Pitch tent taut. Stay safe.

Fixing your sleepng pad should help with warmth. Its a 4.2 R value. If your still cold you could get a ExPed 5 mat with an R value of 6.5. It has down insulation inside the pad but is much heavier. I use it when its frosty out and sleep comfortably. You bag should be fine but obviously isn't gping to work if wet. You can also get one of those silver emergency blankets and that'll add another 10 degrees or so.
@Henning_Rech
@Henning_Rech 2 года назад
Put a foam pad either below or above the inflatable, this adds its R value (around 2).

I don't envy you guys at all, but I'm curious: would your Big Agnes tent from the AT be any quieter in the wind than the Zpacks? I always thought Zpacks tents sounded so noisy.

Should ship your resupply and anything else of importance via UPS. They deliver to any physical address in the US and it’s guaranteed and trackable. Using the postal service is a crap shoot and it’s cost comparable especially if you don’t get what you need or have to wait an extra day for it.

Hey Kelly, hope your stomach feels better, and you had some Imodium in your first aid kit. I'm wondering if the Big Agnes tiger wall ultralight 2 would of fare better in the winds up there? Now that I see that you have a enlightened Revelation 20° sleeping quilt, and seeing how cold you got, it's making me think if I should get a 0° bag for the PCT? I'm curious what's the temperature at night? Good thing you had a hiking buddy that had a spare water filter, that would be disastrous to have one of my water filter fail especially on a Long haul on the PCT..... Cheering you on as always Kelly thank you for the great videos, safe journey sister, namaste.
