I am lucky to live about an hour away from Peter Beales roses. We always go there in June and it is amazing. The bulbs are going to look wonderful in the spring 🌷

is that Julien Plenti singing ? it's been a while since I've listened but it reminded me of his music. Nice podcast, The Met is on RU-vid which is very kind of them to share, and they have Sunday at The Met if anyone wants to look that up. Happy Holidays.🎄🎄

You looked stunning all dressed up for the Met. I never heard them called Honesty. We always called them Money plant. My Mom showed me how to peel the outer skins and remove the seeds for planting. After removing both sides you have a beautiful silvery plant that looks great in a dried arrangement. Kitties are so cute. See you soon!

Did you make bread for those delicious sandwiches?
@jaclynsalemwaxtel

We did not! We bought it from our grocery store that stocks bread made from local bakeries though! Bread is on our list- I make very simple no-knead breads and Andrew makes focaccia, but beyond that we haven’t ventured far into the bread world just yet!!

Hello! Please, I have a question about your garden. With your garden (in the back of your building) being so small, do you dig up the bulbs after blooming? Or leave them in the ground? If you leave them in the ground, how do you plant out something else after they've flowered? Do you pretty much only plant seeds? I live in an apartment and have two small beds, similar in size to yours. I love having bulbs, but once the flowers are spent, there is nothing interesting until the leaves have died and can be removed. Then I feel I can plant something else. I am at a loss what to do. Last year I scattered zinnia seeds, which was beautiful but of course later in the season and not very diverse. I'm grateful for any ideas how to bridge that "transition". Thank you for sharing your garden, sewing, knitting, cooking and life in Brooklyn.

The black dress is so elegant and you know how I feel about your coat! Also like how Andrew waits for you while you’re filming- he’s a keeper. We planted allium bulbs two weeks ago and the ground was a little hard but we got them in- the tool you used is great. Cooking section is awesome! Meal planning is such a great help in our house too. Skinnytaste has such great recipes especially for crockpots. Thanks for sharing!

A bit off topic, but it sounded like the street sax musician was playing the Korean national anthem. Thanks for another fun vlogmas video!

Love seeing the footage from the Met. When I use to live I NYC, so long ago now, my favorite place to visit during holidays was the Medieval room at the Met. We also leave (small) spiders to go about their business in the house as long as they keep their distance. Not so weird.

You should be able to create your own compost by mixing coffee grounds (ask at coffee shops) and leaves and food scraps. With limited space you can make it in a 50 lb reused grain/seed bag or dig a hole and put it in there. Or you can put it in a pile if you have space (Berkeley method). I never would have thought you would have that much space in Brooklyn…so cute. Look forward to seeing it in spring. Really like that tan and pink coat…super cute with black dress.

We are part of our community composting system actually! But it goes to our local community garden not to us. I cannot WAITTTT until I have the space to do the three huge bays composting system once we move in the future! We have a perfect amount of “greens” for compost, but have trouble processing and acquiring enough of the “browns” to balance it in a small space.
@LisaFaiss

@@jaclynsalemwaxtel the leaves make the best browns. I think the Berkeley method is best but requires more turning. You can get compost in 28 days if you turn it enough. I used this method last year when I had to create compost for 5 16x4 ft beds for the food pantry/community garden and had hundreds of pounds of rotten vegetables from bad shipments. Berkeley really works.

Oh, you really shouldn't have cut your grasses before winter. When you cut them you make free way for water to penetrate down the straws and cause rot and frost damage. Hope they survive, though 🙂
@jaclynsalemwaxtel
@jaclynsalemwaxtel 9 месяцев назад
They are in a super sheltered location on three sides, and I cut them last year so I'm not too worried. It's too difficult to get bulbs in around them otherwise. Plus there's only a 50/50 shot that these survive anyway because they're a tender perennial in my zone. So I always sow more seeds of them every year anyway just in case!! :)
