The default HDRI is actually a low resolution version of the HDRI you can select from "Render Settings->Presets->Scene Builder->DTHDR-RuinsB-Background". If you want to see what it actually looks like.

Always happy to see a new video by you, Rauko. Educational and useful. as usual. Thanks! I've got a lot of those Orestes brand HDRIs from the DAZ store myself. They can be pricey if you don't get them on sale, but y'know, there are *always* sales on the DAZ store, you just have to pick the best times for your budget. 🙂They do work very well. Thanks again. Be well!

@@RaukoDaz3D Polyhaven has good things, but I seem to have very specific visuals I need sometimes, so Orestes lets me add pure sky elements seen at different times of day/night, and I can add the other stuff myself. Cheers!

Nice tutorial as always. I always start with in dome and scene, then make a rough a scene and then add the HDRI, then refine the scene, then add lights. find thats the best way for me to get nice lighting in the scene. although i generally don't use the lights, i use a custom mesh light model for lighting my scenes.
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 4 месяца назад
Yeah, I encourage everybody to start with a HDRI dome in place .. even if it's just to supply an ambience to the scene .. and then build on top of it if needed. Other than fully enclosed room with no windows - everything in real life has a natural light lighting the scene either directly or indirectly .. and usually it's that big burn-ey thing in the sky.

I like to change the slider colour of the dome rotation, so it's easier to see amongst the other sliders, BUT be warned, you cannot change this in the latest release of Daz Studio, which has caused me to roll back to 4.21, that and it's not stable.
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 4 месяца назад
I can't say I've got that problem as I've never done it myself .. so I can't really comment on it. As for 4.22 - I've not had any problems with it so far in the couple of months since I upgraded .. Am sure any creases will get smoothed out soon though!

What do You click to get the color box out? Clicking anywhere on "Enviroment tint" does not work for me

Should just need to click on the color itself .. so as a default - the long white rectangle ..

When I load HDRI from content library nothing changes and map in render settings is still the ruins one
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 7 дней назад
There are two ways to load a HDRI .. One from the content library (like what I do early on in this video with the sky / cloud HDRI) .. However, it's not an image that your loading there - but running a script which then loads an image .. just trying to load an image via the content library won't work .. so only try and load something that is part of a specific package that loads HDRIs. The second method it do so by manually. That means clicking the currently load HDRI icon (ie, the Ruins), selecting Browse in the menu that appears and then navigating to where the image is on your system. I always use the second method even if I know I have an installed HDRI package. I just load it in manually all the time.

Nice video would it be possible to make my own HDRI Maps.👍
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 4 месяца назад
Yeah, you can make your own HDRI in photoshop and the likes. It involves creating a 32bit image, selecting the light parts of the image and increasing the exposure values. I might get round to showing how to do it ..

Also, over on the DAZ store, the creator Dreamlight has a video tutorial (a series of .wvm files) for sale called something like "Free Photos As HDRIs" which covers how to turn phoos into HDRIs. It's a few years old, and he's not as good a natural teacher as Rauko (not kissing up, it's just the truth), but if you really, really want to know this technique right now, you could have a look? The tutorial is not cheap (i.e. wait for a sale), and I had to do a search of *.wvm on my hard drive to find where, exactly, DAZ put the tuorial files, so I could copy them out and watch them, but it's there if you want to know the techniques asap. Cheers!

Can HDRIs be used effectively in indoor scenes?
@RaukoDaz3D
@RaukoDaz3D 4 месяца назад
Yes. But only as light that streams through a window or another opening. You can't position or contain a HDRI inside a building. The blurb suggests you can .. You can use a finite dome, reduce the size and then position it's origin .. but it never seems to show up WITHIN the indoor scene - least, I've never been able to manage it and trust me, I've tried for hours!!! In this video : ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-tIG8vV3p3XE.html .. I use a HDRI as one of the options in lighting an indoor scene (sunlight through a window) ..

As a true beginner, what I'm noticing is that lights don't make a particular difference for my characters, even in the most basic scenes. They all look straight from a 90s videogame while yours are so realistic. So I guess I have to figure out how to improve their quality before lighting can positively impact them.

@@RaukoDaz3D You're very kind. I've been experimenting a bit with spotlights, point lights and HDRI. Tried to follow your advice in previous tutorials, but I think it may be a matter of textures mainly. If I could post a picture it would be easier to explain.

I think I know what you mean, all Daz characters look unnatural or comic-like by default. Advanced users like the uploader can make it more realistic up to a certain point through many different settings. What you could do is to take a look at the software called FaceGen. It generates fully editable Daz basemaps from real photos. I use this software and noticed that characters created with Facegen are more independent of external effects such as the lights. Depending on the quality of the images, it can actually give a photorealistic touch without the cartoony look. For example, what I do is use Babina 8 as the base model, since she has the best skin in my opinion, and put the base map generated by FaceGen over her. Sure, you have to adjust the shapes beforehand in the software, which offers tons of shape and texture options, and what I do is also editing the facegen-genrated basemap in gimp (optional for better results in the render), which can take some time. but for me the results are mostly stunning and I no longer get the same cartoony vibes I did when I was a Daz newbie too. I wish the uploader would make a professional tutorial about FaceGen. It's a powerful DAZ tool that delivers better and better results the longer you work with it.
