Ok. So I think this one is a bit of a metaphor. I think the dad is abusive towards his daughter but the wife didn’t know. When she was hearing the sounds and he told her to ignore them I think that symbolized her figuring out what was going on. The monster under the bed “billy” is the evil within the father that lurked unseen but incredibly close. When the mom tried to protect her daughter the dad, or “billy” killed her. Just my theory though
