In this Daz3d tutorial, I show you how to deal with fireflies. Fireflies are those annoying white or transparent pixels that turn up in your renders from time to time. As far as I know, there is no way to fix them that works 100% of the time, but I'll show you a couple of different ways to fix them that will work in most cases.

If you've spent a long time rendering a scene and it's perfect except for a few fireflies just open the image in paint, zoom in all the way and use color picker. Click the pixel beside your firefly to pick the color and then it will automatically switch to the pencil tool and you can click the firefly and it will color it using the color right beside the firefly. Sometimes this takes a lot less time than redoing the render again with more filtering that can decrease the overall quality of your render.

Very interesting but what is about the render setting > Filtering > Nominal Luminance default value is 20 and I have good results between 50 and 100. Have you ever tried that? But it runs not always, at least I could decrease the number of Fireflies. Thank you very much, thumbs up and subscribed...... 😉

I haven't tried that, but I'll experiment with it a bit. Thanks!

Yeah this is a great method I have rarely seen being talked about but it works wonders, setting the Nominal Luminance settings to 50 or 100. The default value 0 always give a lot of fireflies and noise for some reason.

Great video, although I'm surprised you didn't mention the "Firefly filter" in the filtering section of the render settings. Thats usually the very first thing I try. Admittedly it can very slightly soften crisp detail, but only at huge resolution and that can be countered by lowering your "Pixel filter radius". If I still can't get rid of the issue after that I then take it to Photoshop. Oh and by the way if you'd like to get rid large patches of fireflies in Photoshop you can use the "Dust and Scratches" filter (under "Noise" in the filter menu). Crank the radius right up until they are basically gone, at this point the rest of your image may look terrible, so just apply the filter to the effected area by using a layer mask.

Thank you so much! I completely forgot to mention the firefly filter. I usually don't think about it because it's on by default (on mine, anyway), and I've had varying degrees of success with it. Also, I'll have to try out the Photoshop tip. Thanks again!

Over all of these added features there's one that I truly do not seem to understand the reason for which it exists. Noise degrain filter. What exactly does it do? I feel like the only thing it does is that it softens the textures maybe.

I have just started getting fire flies, like a plague of locusts, just hit my props when rendering. If I render avatars separately they are fine, when I put them in a scene it's like they have a rash, this is in a well lit scene, I have even tried changing colours in the scene but to no avail. Really strange how it has just started the last couple of weeks. I even increased the render time to see if that would get rid of it, but to no vail. A few dots I can manage in gimp, but there are hundreds of the little buggers. Glossy surfaces are particularly bad as well, it grows like mould. I thought about uninstalling daz and reinstalling, but that can cause more problems in its self. I just don't know.

Hey buddy, what works for me a lot of the time to kill a lot of noise/fireflies is to change the ''nominal luminance'' setting to 50 or 100 it makes a BIG difference. The default nominal luminance value (0) seems to always give me a lot of fireflies no matter how well lit my scene is. Hope this helps you out, anyways.
