The dubbed version of the "Luffy... help me." and "Of Course I Will!!!!" is actually much better in the anime proper, as opposed to this special. The special just speeds thru everything so fast it doesn't give any of the lines enough time to just... sit there. Like you pointed out yourself with that Nami line.

The best dub clips to react to are from the Water 7 arc. For some reason that's when the english cast was giving 110% in their performances.

So it seems to me that the live action must've looked at Mihawk's english voice because they sound basically identical.

To clarify the eye stabbing was in the manga, but the anime cut it out for censorship reasons. Other things this retroactively corrected, him punching the Lord of the Coast was cut for some reason, and Nami wasn't supposed to be introduced until Orange town.

I exclusively watch the one piece dub, and yeah i can confirm they have some absolutely amazing voice actors. I mean hell sanji is voiced by trunks 😂

Man. I feel like the redub for this is a little worse than the original dub. Same VAs, but different performance. Slightly different lines as well.

Id recommend checking out the more iconic parts like Nami's "help me" from the original dubbed episodes, if not for a video then on your own. The delivery is better in most scenes since it isn't rushed.

They used to dub the openings too, they were reaaaly well done. You should react to them!

The One Piece dub is actually quite well liked, much more than many other dubs.

So the dialog in the in the series is actually far different than in this.

I aint gonna lie, the remade dub is kinda not great, If you gonna check out the dub, the original funimation dub was better.

When I started one piece I decided on dub as I read all day at work and just wanted to enjoy it. After catching up with the dub and having to watch the sub to get current I'm glad I choose dub and i'll be rewatching the anime in dub as it comes out.

man prety much every important scene in this special is done better in the OG anime dub, dialogue and voice acting. i wonder why they even changed it

It took me untill marineford to unhear Gohan untill but now I cant unhear Luffy, Zoro, Ussop, Brook and Sanji when I rewatch Dragon Ball after watching 1073 episodes of dub piece

This was interesting i started watching Funimation dub version of One Piece a good 15 years or ago so and switched to Sub whenever i was too impatient to wait for the next arc since the dub for the most part was 200+ episodes behind the subbed version. I noticed a few minor characters like Zeff and Nezumi had their voice actors changed maybe VA retired / old age or death and some other very minor characters. I think for this East Blue special whoever wrote the voice lines and dialog failed badly a 6/10 performance. In the Anime dub the English lines was written and delivered way better and stir far more emotions like this for example: (Special) - I am Dracule Mihawk and it's far too soon for you to die, increase your strength Roronoa defeat my sword in battle with raging metal of your spirit become better than me your have to. (Anime) It's still too far early for you to die, My name is Hawkeye Mihawk! Your strong but their is much for you to learn no matter how many years it takes i will hold this title as the greatest swordsman in the world and wait for you until that day your must hone your skills then Seek Me Out! Roronoa Zoro. That was one was example of many lines they changed in the Special that made it inferior to what they original said in the Dub version. I'd rate the One Piece , Naruto and DBZ - English Dub all between 8.0 - 9.0 / 10 its never going to match the emotions of subbed but these 3 shows are some of the best Eng Dub has to offer

You don't really register it because you don't watch Dragon Ball in Japanese but there's actually also a ton of overlap in JP there too. In JP, Luffy is Krillin, Dr. Kureha is Goku, Mihawk was Kami/King Piccolo, and Ace is Piccolo

Zoro’s voice just isn’t as deep as piccolo’s And usopp’s voice is just a little more gruffer then krillins.

I would basically just chock it up to their general mic quality, but I feel that most pre-pandemic dubs done by FUNimation sound a little amateurish. Like, it's as though they had been using the same booth setup they've used since like the mid-2000s. Like I'm listening to these voices through a tinny tube, or something. Still phenomenally acted out, tho'

If Bellemere had lied to Along Nami likely would have been killed at sea. So no she didn't "fuck Nami's life up" by telling the truth.

The Nami slap in the original dub was much more warranted. Also, I'm a dub fan all the way. I could never go back to the sub even though I think the voice actors are just fine in both. I just prefer to understand what's being said so I can focus on what's happening more and not have to read all the dialogue

I like Colleen Clinkenbeard as a VA, but yeah could never really get used to her Luffy. Trust me she can be amazing as other characters, but yeah really hard to compare to the Japanese VA for Luffy. Now that I think about it, could never get used to her Kid/Teen Gohan either. Especially when comparing her to the other english VA, Stephanie Nadolny.

I think Belle-mere is Botan in Yu Yu Hakusho (highly recommend that anime, though I'm aware it wasn't quite released anywhere else in the 'west' other than the U.S. back then)

So i had to watch stampede in dub instead of sub which is one of the newer movies and jesus even tho i love some of these dub voices the sub is completely unmatched in tone

one fandub I saw back in the olde timey days swapped the shout of 'Of course I will!' with just 'Damn Straight!'. Not an otherwise edgy translation, but, that moment stands out in memory.
