Let's just leave it at this so a chain of argumentive comments doesnt start: its one of the more recognizable moments in anime, and is a popular clip/song for a good reason.
+ElectricEdgewave192 Men of peace create war. Protectors create avengers. People create... smaller people? What's the word? Children! I lost it for a second.
RIP Akira Toriyama Thank you for giving a childhood to millions of people around the world. Just like the story you wrote, you will go down as a legend. Just like the form you created, you will go down as an icon. Thank you, Toriyama
I've never thought about it quite specifically in that way. That's a truly monumental way to say it, and likely the idea Akira Toriyama wanted to convey to his fans about the whole Super Saiyan thing. Awesome.
With the passing of Akira Toriyama, every Dragon Ball fan is paying their respects in their preferred way. I feel that this is the place where I should write my thoughts down. I rewrote this so many times because I kept struggling to find a way to express my love for this series and how much it helped me through my darkest times. Which was the inspiration for me being here. Goku attaining the Super Saiyan form is in my opinion one of the most influential moments in all of anime, and maybe even media. Seeing this little monkey boy who just loved nothing more than to get stronger and to keep his friends safe, turn into a living legend with unmeasurable power. This one scene shows us that even if you're backed into a corner and have no way of getting out, holding on and becoming the strength and light that you need in that moment is possible. Even when it feels like the whole world is against you, Goku showed us that you make your own opportunities instead of laying down and accepting your demise. Thank you, Toriyama. For not only influencing millions of people and the media of art in general, but for quite literally saving people's lives by writing a story and character that taught us to be our own light in the darkness, as another person commented. Rest in Peace.
Going to namek: Frieza accomplished -Losing his 2 right hand men -Losing half his soldiers -Losing his wish for immortality -Losing the Ginyu Force -Unlocked the Super Saiyan ability -Cut himself in half Namek was a goddamn disaster for frieza 😂😂
@@firstrateduelist4377 he's not coming back. Get over it. He's been fired from funimation during the early 2000s and funimation don't own failconer's music anymore
@@firstrateduelist4377 As much as I'd love that homie above is correct, Faulconer and Funimation had a bad falling out forever ago. Plus Funimation hella caters to the purist weebs know who'd start a riot if their precious OSTs got changed. Also.. Super really isn't worth the OST redo cause it kinda sucks
If it wasn’t for Akira Toriyama, Shonen wouldn’t be the way it is today, he truly shaped what shonen is, inspiring new leaf during that era such as Oda, Kishimoto, & Kubo, just to name a few. Rest in Peace Akira Toriyama.
`You... What *ARE* you!?` "I am the hope of the universe." "I am the answer for all living things that cry out in peace." "I am protector of the innocent, I am the light in the darkness!" "I am truth." "Ally to good, nightmare to you!!"
and as it happened, he was not yet fucked up...he was on the upper hand before his power started dropping..you can't blame for destroying Namek either...it was a limitation of Goku Which Frieza could figure out...and as we know, anything is allowed in a death battle..
its supposed to represent goku's power over evil, he knew the legend was a farce as far as he was concerned, he just had to do what he had to, to defeat frieza even tho it was a near impossibility you can actually hear him say it himself.
Actually not really. Goku was playing with Frieza and in the Manga it's pure domination. Even at 100% Frieza was still far outmatched by Super Saiyan Goku. Goku was dragging the fight out to humiliate Frieza, as payback.
+Stephen Vargas you misunderstood, let me clarify, yeah he was playing with frieza when he "turned" super saiyan, but when he was just normal goku even with kaioken it was an impossibilty. and he did what he had to to defeat frieza, that meant turning...
he was not playing with Frieza..at least after Frieza did a Namek-destroying attack..he had very small amount of time left to defeat Frieza and escape so no question of playing..he was serious...
I will never understand why people hate the Faulconer music. It told us how to feel about a moment, brought more emotion to a scene, and made the series overall more memorable. Sure some stuff was out of place from time to time and not all tracks were gold but the pros really outweigh the cons. This track is a perfect example of capturing the mystery/intensity of Goku finding a new power and trying to keep the little sanity he has left. You just don't get the same feeling of Goku's anger mounting and unleashing with the Japanese score. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to go power up for this test I haven't studied for.
I'm Latino. And I appreciate both Osts to a degree. Falconer was pretty good in giving EPIC themes to lots of the main characters but a good chunk of his ''silly music'' when there was downtime on the show was pretty bland. it didn't compare at all to the orquestral and atmospheric of the original. Honestly, the performances(and script) of most of the cast was a bit more jarring than anything on their first try on Z . If there was a Kai with Falconer's music or a Z version with the more updated acting and script Id definitely give it a go again.
mik3izg I literally just said Faulconer gave EPIC themes to lots of the main characters. This is, the theme for Super Saiyan Goku. Of Course I like it. I love it.
This is probably my favorite Faulconer theme because it fits so well with Goku's ascension into Super Saiyan. It's like, everything we previously knew about Goku- his childish nature, his lighthearted attitude, etc.,- is now gone, only to be replaced with the monster that's haunted the nightmares of the most feared tyrant in the galaxy. We saw an incomplete version of this "monster", if you will, when Goku was flying off the handle in the King Piccolo arc and was willing to kill left and right to avenge Krillin's death. But now that it's happened here, he has a more balanced approach- he can accept his violent Saiyan heritage, but at the same time he could still maintain some of that inner warmth to his character. It was when this theme played that you knew shit was hitting the fan. You KNEW Goku wasn't playing around anymore, this was when it was 100% serious. You didn't really know what was coming, all you knew was that the days of the monkey tailed boy you saw in DB were gone and the legendary SSJ (because fuck that shit with Broly) has finally arrived
YES FUCK YES THANK YOU! This is what I try to say when people hate on this OST by Falconer. The Japanese OST has no place in DBZ for me. It just sounds so.. Happy and campy that when it comes down to the raw and emotional scenes like this one it just doesn't measure up!
***** I totally agree with you. Frieza ignored Goku's warnings completely, and kept pushing his buttons, until Goku's anger awakaned the beast within. Frieza's arrogance ultimately brought his downfall.
0:00 Shock 0:25 Sadness 0:57 Anger 1:03 Rage increasing with every beat 1:24 Goku finally snaps and turns into Super Saiyan Edit: Rest in peace Akira Toriyama 😢

This was literally one of the highlights of my childhood. I was 7 years old when I first watched this scene. The anger, the rage, the scream, the glare at frieza, the music. DBZ truly is the greatest anime in my opinion.
It is, I have watched countless animes, I have come to appreciate the existence of this amazing series, it is honestly really inspiring and definitely deserves the crown of fiction
"I am the hope of the universe, i am the answer to all living things that cry out for peace, i am the protector of the innocent, i am the light to the darkness, i am truth, ally to good, nightmare to you" - Goku Edit: I'm still surprised that this is probably my most liked comment ever, even after all these years of growing up
ApolloMaster So Superman is the only humanoid allowed to want to protect the innocent and pure hearted? Now if Goku puts on a red cape and becomes deathly allergic to a new element called 'Sayainite' then I'll buy into the comparison...
Wouldn't it be Vegetanite? since the planet is vegeta... I'm referring to the "I am the hope of the universe" quote. Goku's not like that. Goku's a big ol' silly, food-gobbling battle freak who fights to save the world and also for fun. Superman is a hopeful, wise, and kind immortal entity who fights to save the world. That quote seems like nothing goku would say. It sounds like a superman quote.
If this scene happened in today's era then it would have flooded the internet and would have absolutely crashed it. The amount of impact this scene had back in the old days when there was no internet and social media, I regret the fact that many new Gen weebs won't be able to understand this scene in its pure form back in the days. They don't know how good this scene was.( U might think I am over exaggerating things a bit but no I ain't doing that). I can guarantee u that everyone who had seen this back in the days must have been standing and screaming.
Rage will never compare to passion, that is why Goku achieved super saiyen first His love for self improvement but more importantly his friends helped him achieve something never seen before, Akira Toriyama achieved something never heard of before not out of spite of the industry but instead out of love and passion Rest in Peace, Akira Toriyama 1955 - 2024
top three mistakes of Freeza's life: 3: Going to Namek. 2: Taunting the heroes. 1: Killing Krillin, causing Goku's transformation, and following all of that up by threatening Gohan.
One single mistake of Frieza: playing around with Goku from the beginning. Nothing else. He could have killed him within one second but no, he didn't. Or should I change it: Single mistake of Frieza: Holding back too much power in time of Namek destructing attack. Nothing else. He could have instantaneously destroy Namek like Vegeta and he would have been done.
@@saladasSTiBro grow up. I’m sure you wouldn’t be happy if someone said some dumb shit like that about one of your dead family members. So don’t say it about others. Even if you didn’t like dragon ball he was still a human, have some respect for the man
"You should know that by now...I am the saiyan that came all the way from Earth with the sole purpose of beating you! I am the warrior you've heard in legends! Pure of heart, and awaken by fury! *I AM THE SUPER SAIYAN! SON GOKU!*"
This theme is truly a masterpiece and ill tell you why: The song starts out with shock and disbelief, at about 0:18 it transitions to sadness, again at 0:57 that sadness transitions to rage and that rage continues building until the end. Buuuut if you listen closely you'll notice that the transitions dont replace each other, but build on top of the previous. And the thing that ties it all together is the scene it goes with, because I think I perfectly mirrors all of the emotions Goku was processing at the time.
Super late (like Jesus if you guys even see this then I'll be amazed) but Bruce actually wasn't the one who wrote most of the music under his name. He still is an amazing and wonderful music artist but I'd say only about 20 percent of music under his name was made by him. They were mostly written by Scott Morgan, Mike and Julius. Once again you probably won't see this lol
In my opinion this pic is the best still-animation of Goku during the end of the Namek chapter, it represents so much, stretched to the limit, still ready square-up... the track most certainly does 🔥🔥🔥
Man I lucked out I think I was in 3rd grade when this aired, I remember on the old old OLD dbz site you could actually watch the 5 most current episodes and how long id leave the internet up to buffer this episode lol because that was the only way to rewatch it
Rest in peace Mr. Toriyama. This man made my childhood, which was filled with abuse, drug use, and trauma.... that much more bearable. I'll forever remember the good times I had with this series. Thank you.
Gohan listen very carefully you must leave this planet now and take piccolo with you got it? this is the last i'm going to tell you get out of here right now gohan
The one piece fandom is absolutely smokin something if they think gear 5 has ANYTHING on super saiyan, not just in terms of being iconic, but because everything about super saiyan’s debut was absolute fucking perfection
Wow, Gokus come a long way. From a mere super saiyan to a super saiyan god. If thats not inspiration saying you can do anything you set your mind to I dunno what is.
same as vegeta... Plus vegeta didn't need the power of 5 saiyans to obtain god power, it was all purely his power. in majin saga he used babidi but that's it.
omar shakir There's always that one typical Vegeta fanboy in every comment section. If Goku didn't use all there power to obtain god power, then Beerus would have killed them all, so your statement is false. Goku>Vegeta
