In late 2018, it was announced that Joel McHale would be playing the character of Sylvester Pemberton, aka Starman, in DC Universe's upcoming Stargirl TV series. The thing is, Sylvester was never Starman in the comics - but at least nine other heroes HAVE used the name since 1941. So join Seb, from the Cinematic Universe podcast, as he takes a run through all the previous incumbents, and how they relate to both Stargirl and this new TV Starman!

Starman is highly underrated and under appreciated series my favorite starman is Jack Knight, I would love to see Alan Moore give his touch to the starman series just like he did for Miracleman!

I had a couple of issues of Adventures Comics from 80/81. I bought them because of Plastic Man. The Starman stories intrigued me because of Ditko's art. Eventually, I discovered who Steve Ditko was when his work was reprinted in Marvel Tales.

The Starman timeline can be very confusing; with the trailer release of Stargirl (which is looking pretty good btw), many people will look for more information about this character mantle and the cosmic rod. Great content and narration =^..^= I loved the JSA Thom Kallor Starman being so misterious and crazy, a great underdog hero character, time to re-read.

Thing is James Robinson himself holds the rights of Jack Knight, not DC, that's why on the Stargirl show they made Sylvester Pemberton (Star-Spangled Kid; Skyman) Starman which isn't the first time they do that. On Smallville, Sylvester looked exactly like Jack with jacket, goggles and all.

Jack Knight inherits the heroic identity 🆔 of Starman from his brother who in turn had taken over from their father. Although Jack never intends to become a Super Hero wanting only to run his antiques and collectibles store 🏬🏪 he takes up the Cosmic Rod and defends his beloved 😍 Opal City 🏙️🌆 as the new 🆕 Starman! I've been really intrigued with the concept of Starman due to the look and idea of Jack Knight, and also a character known as Doctor Star. The latter of which I've wondered if he may be a rip off of the former, as he also uses a staff powered by energy to fight crime. If anyone knows if he in fact is a rip off or simply just a similar character, or archetype, of Starman I would really like to know :)
