I live in a small Canadian city. The closest I get to a fine-writing instrument retailer is a nice little stationary store with some budget LAMY and Pilot pens. Seeing that many people gather over a pen show warms my heart.
Loved this presentation. I've never been to a pen show. I would deeply appreciate an estimate on what the pens you spoke of sell for. Hope that isn't asking too much.
I didn't search for the specific pens he showed. But, you can get prices on these websites pen.18111.com/, www.schondsgn.com/collections/pens/products/fountain-pens?variant=30896879960197, narwhalpens.com/, www.laban.com/product-category/pen/fountain-pen/, www.pointspens.com/, www.waldmannpen.com/pens.
It's a little shout out to an old Daily Show bit. Jon Stewart would ask folks to join him over at camera three for a little private talk. In hindsight, it might have been funnier if I always called it "camera three"...then folks would be wondering where camera two was. lol.
Looks like it was a good show for you! Bummer you can't go to any until Atlanta! I'm going to Dallas and shooting for Philly +/- Baltimore before Atlanta next year!
Thank you for mentioning santini i love his work and every person i talked to I showed them to his table and i am glad someone mentioned him to an even broader audience
This was such a fun video, I love Pen Show wrap ups, so many great stories and great items. Those pens are all very attractive and the Galen Leather items were really nicely crafted. I’m looking forward to seeing all the pen reviews of the pens you showed. Looks like a lot of fun in store.
I've been a rush fan since I was 13 (1983). Exit Stage Left was the album that made me discover Rush and I never clued it as to why the song was called YYZ. Never in a million years would I have expected to learn that 36 years later through a fountain pen channel lol
I have enjoyed your videos for a long while, but I have to say that is was one of my favorite due the wide variety of items. I just order some leather goods from Galen -- Wow ! Thank you for your informative updates and your love of Pens!
thanks, great insights. i thought the guy running it last year gave some poor info about attending on friday too. i plan to go this year, looking forward to it. your presentation helps with the motivation!
Thank you, David. I have the Opus 88 with black matte trim and enjoy it very much. I look forward to your review and am sure that you will wind up with one of your own.
I had two 3776s tuned by Gena. She did a fantastic job and really brought my soft-fine to life. I also picked up a Schon fountain pen and I'm loving it. It's been part of my EDC since. If anyone gets the chance to pick one up then they should definitely do so. Really looking forward to the Narwhal review. I saw them at the show and their pens looked really cool but I didn't get the chance to really go check them out.
I loved the presentation. Since I only got into the hobby this year, I was going to attend a pen show that's local to me and then maybe the one in Manila, but then the pandemic happened. So, the Tainan Pen Show is now virtual on FB and the one is Manila was canceled back in May I believe. But I'll have the opportunity to meet Tommy Zheng, a nibmeister. I'm really excited about that.
I really like my Opus 88 demo. First time I had a pen like that. One caution: I made the mistake of putting DeAtramentis document ink in the pen. These ink is great, however it stained the pen. I was able to get some of the stain out. Please mention on your review to not use permanent ink. Thanks for all the great work!
Great job on the review. I was there on the busy Sat. But I did check out some of the vendors you mentioned. I look forward to inking up my blue Narwhal. I enjoyed chatting briefly with you when we were both catching our breath.
My Opus 88 Demonstrator pen with a broad nib is excellent. I've been using it with J.Herbin Kyanite and it's a wet and silky smooth combination. I believe those Waldmann silver pens are made in Germany.
awesome presentation! im eyeing a Leonardo Momento Zero and a Santini Toscana... thank you for your informative videos! ever been to the Chicago Pen Show? :)
Thank you! I really appreciate this review and all the new brands mentioned in this video! You just also made me even more excited about my appointment with Gena in SF but a bit sad that I won’t get to see you at a show this year. Looking forward to all the reviews 😊
Thanks for the review of the DC trip David it was most enjoyable. A very dangerous place to be for the credit card,,, I'm reluctantly glad that I live in the UK and there are very few pen shows to mention,,, I try to get to the UK shows but there's not the same shout out enthusiasm here...typical British reserved character. Your stash of goodies is very interesting and big thanks to the donator of the fabulous puzzle prize in the future. I'm looking forward to receiving a new handmade ebonite pen form JPL from Australia,,, should be very interesting as I've always wanted an all ebonite pen and supported Josh on his Kickstarter. Perhaps one will land on your desk ? ? ? Thanks again David for your time interest and dedication to the pen community and the hobby... you're a wonderful man. Also, your workstation picture on Instagram is seriously cool. Best wishes to all PenPeople. LeZc @@
Excellent show review.. thank you .. the pens selected are really varied and I look forward to the reviews ..I found the Caran D' Ache pen too narrow at the section and the plastic users bit flimsy ... I gave that one away ..I'll be interested in your review and opinions..
I am looking forward to the review on the Narwhal. I really like the look of the all of them and I have put it on the I want list. I wonder if they are going to produce the pen with more than the fine in the future.
Hi David! Great video again, but I got the idea that your second camera is set at a different angle this time. Still a great overview of what seemed to be a really cool penshow, but I like your usual setup better :)
I'm sorry I missed you at the show. I think everyone got either a Narwhal and/or something from Galen. I bought the Narwhal and it's fun. I also have a Laban Ocean, which should be very similar to the Sun model and it's a great pen. I picked up a Laban Rainbow when I was there and it's gorgeous and writes beautifully.
i own 7 santini italias and if you want a comfortable, thick, oversize, beautiful fountain pen with a nib that has long tines and will never give you any issues and writes straight out of the box, you have to give them a try, it's shocking david hasn't reviewed one yet and just because it has a converter does not take away from the luxury of the pen, the threads feel so smooth and tight when i twist the barrel off to fill the pen, everything is so precise and the best part is they offer so many different gold nib sizes and most of their pens are under $300 USD
Wow David, this pens are spectacular! When I saw the Sakura review, the pen didn't do much for me, but seeing it again I have a whole different level of appreciation for it. And I agree actually the bare branch :) That pocket pen is the first one I've seen that did anything for me--number 5s push the low end of the size spectrum for me--and the Narwhal is a winner too. Too bad you won't be coming to LA in Feb!
Excellent video. I'm not sure if you've done a video on this topic yet but it would be great to hear your feedback on various pen cases. For 2 pens, 6 pens, 12 pens or more. Travel cases, daily carry cases, etc...
Thanks for the recap, David! I was looking at the Michael Fiedler book, too, but never saw anyone at the table to ask about it. It looks fantastic. Do you know if he's selling them elsewhere, perhaps online?
@@FigbootonPens Thank you! I had found his homepage, but that only showed some samples from the project with no option to buy. I figured there had to be a purchase option somewhere 👍
Would had been Really Nice if you had shown the Pens, along with the Various vendors.and Not talk so much. I have been to this show in 2018, you missed the entire core of it!
