I've been craving this since day one. Holding a stable hover and telling George where to look is more chalenging than I thought. Glad to see this coming soon
@@Sanuske4 It's been in the game for nearly 2 months now. That is if you are playing on OpenBeta, if you are on Stable, then no, it is not on Stable, atleast, I am not aware of.
If you're making a video about flight controls and trimming it would be quite useful for the future to bring up the control cross in the top left so that people can more directly see what is exactly happening. thanks for the updates !
This is going to take all of the fun out of my hovering while eating ham sandwiches technique, but a lot less food in the keyboard is probably a good trade off.
I'm glad this feature wasn't in the initial release. Helped alot to learn to actually control this manually. I bet I would have relied way too much on the hover hold.
That's how I feel about the FCS. I remember back in the Longbow days I'd always use radar guided instead of laser guided, never bothered to get good with the TADS. Now I'm a tadsmaster since there's no FCS holding my hand haha.
Let’s not start making excuses for incomplete features in a product that costs the same as a AAA game. Also, it’s nobody else’s business how one wishes to learn an airframe.
This is my favorite module in DCS by a long shot. Thanks to Wags and the ED team for taking on this beast of a project and making it as great as it already is. Keep grinding fellas, and we'll keep supporting you all the way!
after FINALLY dialing in my Virpil controls I can safely say I can now hover very well even without attitude hold mode. The right setup makes SUCH a difference.
I have been so sad trying to study your guide and failing badly until I realized last night why my sim wasn't responding like your video. I had it set in gameplay to the game mode setting and discovered none of the things in the video would work with the set to on. Once I unchecked the box and went back in I have been hovering and holding and all 😊😊😁😁😁 This is really about be fun now! Thanks Wags! Hooah!
Thank you Ed for implementing the hover and velocity mode sooner than later. They would definitely be handy in flying the Apache and at the same time do other important stuff much more easily.
Amen Bro! It's been out 8-9 months and still no talk of it. It will be a real game changer when it does come out. It must be a real bear to model it correctly. I keep looking for news on the FCR and it's as quiet as a church house on Saturday night.
Is just me or this year 2 modoules are on the way? the CH-47 and the C-130J. They both apeared in a Matt's video for the first time and both of them were key airframes in Bagram airfield.
Awesome. Is there a way to have George use the autopilot in a hover when I'm in the cpg seat and have it stay on when I switch back to pilot. That way I don't have to do gymnastics with the controls when switching back to keep the aircraft under control
Wags, on a scale of 1 to 10 - how much do you like ham sandwiches? :P Apache is coming along nicely for the 'rotorheads', awesome work from the ED team. Looking forward to the release of the South Atlantic map myself, can't wait to load it up myself - it looks spectacular.
i advise you wags to test your product with the most popular stick out there, the thrustmaster 1600, apache is unflayable with it no matter what you do or what curves you set.
5 months later. The T16000M FCS is a piece of garbage. The RZ axis is a wreck. I bought LogiTech X52 non Pro as a replacement. Same price, so much better. Get rid of that thing.
Been using Attitude hold for hover for over a couple weeks now. I've went to the bathroom, got something to drink, and come back still in the same spot. It always kept me around 0-2 knots. So does this mean it will bring you to zero knots and keep it there now?
Great video. Looking forward to these modes. However you are mistaken regarding the realism of one small aspect. Everyone knows real Apache pilots during hold mode eat turkey sandwiches, not ham. 😉
I really hope there will be some kind of stabilisation system for forward flight at high cruise Speed, cause the apache is rocking left and right like a rocking chair compared to real life helicopters i fly in.
At max speed you are very close to retreating blade stall which will make the helicopter loose lift on its right side and fall. Even small changes in wind, air temperature and pressure as you fly across different areas can make a big difference at this point. DCS might just have to trim the module a bit...
@@johnloov true, I'm comparing to Bell 429, we flew it at 93% torque yesterday with altitude hold on 1400 feet, reached 140 knots indicated and she was rock steady. Maybe the Apache has lower Vne than the Bell? But still I lack some kind of stabilization when doing normal flight straight forward. I really hope there is a heading and altitude autopilot in the works.
@@Aphelion79 Yeah, it's so unstable sometimes. Have you tried the UH-60L mod? When you activate all stabilization systems on it, it's very stable on the "wings" during level flight.
Trying to be constructive but hoping for some FM tweaks so the helo doesn't spin like a weightless top when making 1 and 2% changes to the power settings near hover. And the sensitivity of the module is such that I have to reduce the percentage of total movement so that when I add some curve "which is a must" it doest bite so hard at the extremes when I do need full movement. If we're all just adding curves and adjusting sensitivity to make it enjoyable "which we are" I guess I'm not sure why the sensitivities are so high. If i had 3 foot wide $500+ rudder pedals im sure it'd be better but i use a vkb twist grib which has been brilliant with every other module and helo i use. Just my 2 cents......I want to enjoy flying not relying on automating my gaming experience. Keep up the great work, dcs has been fantastic as of late.
The only axes in DCS i ever use a curve on are TGP/Radar/cursor slew axes, even back then when i used a Logitech 3D Pro 🤷♂️ If you have set a huge deadzone for your anti torque axis on your twist grip like i had, try it without. Made it much easier for me. You aren't supposed to release the AT pedals in a helo anyways 🙂
@@Skullizer I don't use deadzones, Thr hind and huey work great. It just seems obvious when you add 10% lift from the ground and the apache starts spinning on the pavement with the brakes locked something is askew. It's early access and it's just my 2 cent. It's not horrendous.
How do you "Initiate the hold mode" is what I'm after. It looks like the only controls used were the trim switches at 1:40 when the control scheme was pulled up but I already have that set. It doesn't say anything about hovering hold, or hovering, etc., That's where I'm lost.
Hey WAGS, just got my DOF P6 motion sim chair up and running, I get everything BUT heave up and down with the AH-64, is there missing code on this module for heave signal?????? Beta, multi core .
Myself and dozens others tried to get this to work and have done extensive testing and once we try these exact methods it completely bugs out the heli and the force trim reset wont work , the force trim wont work , the auto hover at less than 5 knts no matter how stable we were , it just wouldnt work and bugged out the heli into an unflyable state , every time . Is there a future patch coming out that will fix these issues and make it easier to engage and disengage ?
It works perfectly fine here and my multiple Apache pilots. Please use our forums for you and your friends to better understand how to correctly use the trim system. forum.dcs.world/topic/295372-force-trim/page/29/#comment-4982196
Tried, doesn't work. Got into a perfect hover, resetted the Force Trim, still perfect hover, now Force Trim/Hold mode LEFT, let go on the controls .. helicopter drifts away spinning clockwise until it crashes. If i don't reset the trim heli drifts away just without spinning and crashing. P.S. Open Beta updated to 2.7.12.
It doesn't appear that the Force Trim reset recenters the SAS in the current beta build, and the only way to recenter the SAS is by holding FT for 3 seconds (or do a complete FMC reset). Is the upcoming patch going to recenter the SAS upon FT reset?
I followed your turorial step by step but I always had one problem: The Attitude Hold would only engage rarily or not at all and i couldn´t activate it reliably. I don´t know if it is my fault or if my game is just bugged. (I think it´s my incompetent self). If someone has a solution for my problem please help me.
1) Force Trim - R/Up. 2) Force Trim - AT/Left. 3) Collective @ about +70% not mentioned in the video. Make sure your mapping is correct, follow the steps and practice. It's not you.
@@ghost_md-9973 I had the same problem until I figured out I wasn't using the Force Trim Release - R / Up Release button. Works great now. Hope you have descent HOTAS too.
Hi , can this hold mode only work at low attitude or can it also work say abt 500 feet and above? Apologies if this is a silly question. I'm learning 😢
@@Avenger31 yeah a Hercules would be awesome, but heavy-lift helicopters would be better IMO. They do they same job but are inherently more challenging, which makes it more incentivizing to play. At least in my opinion. Maybe if we ever get a super large map or maybe even the whole world, we could get a C-17. Though that is a huge “if”. Because the C-17 has a stick, much like a fighter, which is very unique for an aircraft that size.
