Thank you sir! There's something magical about it, both my parents had uncles who flew in the RAF during that time, they're dead now but I would have loved to see what they would make of today's simulations. He he, could have used them as a test bed, keep developing until they have PTSD!

That castle was where I overheard an elderly American couple discussing whom they could ask about seeing the bluebirds, my interjection was the same of the video 'they're an endangered species and the locals will even go as claiming they don't exist, you have to be persistent!'

Thank you sir! This is a common theme in flight sims, one doesn't see hedge rows. I'm not sure if it's more expensive on resources to create hedges as we now have speed trees, perhaps speed hedges would be a thing if hedge rows were more common outside the British Isles, France and the low countries.

Thank you good sir! I hope you're keeping well. I think this map is the WW2 map that ED wanted to make all along. If my memory serves me (which it never does) a 3rd party dev came along years ago and promised to make Normandy '44 and all the toys to go with it. The dev 'allegedly' (have to use that in case one of the buggers are reading) ran off with the cash leaving ED to clean up the spunk. ED made good on the promise and all those original backers get what they were promised and what they paid the original 3rd party for. As much as I like Normandy I would have preferred this map by far from the start.

@Tom cat Just to clarify on my last bit there, the dev that was originally supposed to make Normandy opened a dreaded kickstarter which stung a load of people, ED stepped up and made things good at great and continued expense. The actual developer of the Normandy we have are a first rate map dev, nothing to do with the kickstarter dev. They're called Urgamedia and they have/are developed(ing) very high quality maps for a number of sims including IL2. When speed trees became the norm they even went back and added them to Normandy along with optimisation improvements. Just saw your comment and thought I should clear up any ambiguity.

Thank you sir! I honestly think flightsimming is a hardware lotto, I had an issue like that over Cherbourg on the Normandy map when no one else was having it, an update later it went away. The only area I had a bit of a dip was around Abbeville on this map.

Thank you sir! That's an unusual error, as far as I know the versions are unified. Have you set the view distance to the maximum, also adjust the quality of trees/grass upwards as they may have somehow gotten connected to other features. Lastly, go to C:\Users\[whatever your PC is called]\Saved Games\DCS.openbeta then delete the contents of the FXO and Metashaders folders, sometimes old textures can cause this issue after an update. Hope this helps.

Laobi i will definitely try your suggestions. I want there to be enough detail that I can fly over and spot that Border Collie! WOOF!

Thank you sir! The Normandy map covers the south central coast of England, Normandy, and the Channel Islands. The Channel map moves East covering South East England, Nord Pas De Calais and a little bit of Belgium.

Thank you sir! The Normandy map is a different animal! The developers of the Normandy map are still doing work in the sim, their latest is the upcoming Syria map, they're also developing a Normandy map for IL2, so I wouldn't worry about their longevity too much. Additionally they performed some updates to the map last year including speed trees and optimisation. The Hawk was an isolated incident that was part of a learning curve, there are much tighter controls on devs now including the retention of source code - this means that if a dev abandons the sim ED can legally continue to work on and I think will gain ownership of that module/map going forward.

@@Laobi You might remember Smudge who did a few videos. He had a few issues with some of the Caucasus places. Back in BlueFlag 2014 he gave up completely with Vladikavkaz and called it Dave after too much ridicule. Butchering placenames is hilarious. I still recall directing some American tourists to Leicester Square. "Lye-sester square". English placenames are silly tho and definitely deserve it.

The twisty fucker who came up with it disappeared and the name was almost changed, then it was decided its a great way to tell who to shoot and who is cool and only needs a good pounding rather than a bullet wound. It is pronounced, Nakadoechez. Keep in mind, this is the same state with Uncertain, Tx, Cut and Shoot, Tx, and my home town of Baytown. It is a town, on a bay, of all things. I always thought, man what a bunch of dull fuckers. Then I met the woman I am going to marry. She is from Minnesota, the wettest state in the lower 48. There is water everywhere. Naturally, she is from Watertown, MN. Yep, the boy from Baytown fell for the girl from Watertown. Oh, and I was born in Riverton, Wyoming. And yes, she will wear the pants in the family.

I like those simple place names, no ambiguity, not like here where some of the ancient names are impossible to pronounce, except for a place called Bastardstown which lives up to its name, a place called Cum which I obviously avoided, and a place called Muff which many years ago I used to prank call people telling them I was from the Diving school there (then some fucker had the same idea and made it an internet thing with t-shirts etc.,). You'll even find in Europe that many place names are just the same in the current or some long forgotten language and Chinese place names are mostly named after either shapes on land or their location on the sea, so there will be towns called North Sea, South Sea, Big River, etc., Congratulations on your upcoming wedding!

@@Laobi It's the scale. You can notice it more so on the rivers. I find most sims suffer from this. They got it right way back with pacific fighters (if you had a Radeon lol). I really expect way better in 2020.

Thank you sir! I like Normandy, but not as much as this and loving WW2 warbirds I just had to. I also love IL2, it reminds me in a good way of a WW2 theme park, whereas for me DCS does the detail. They're both great in different ways for me.
