@@jibcot8541 while someone is hoping they won’t need 3080, I hope that 3090 is enough to run these clouds on highest settings with decent fps in VR. I’m sure you won’t need 3080 just as you don’t need it now but as the saying goes you get what you pay for. Have you seen MFS2020 clouds on lowest settings? That’s what I’m talking about.

@@RUS38 we both know that's not going to happen. Even im 2.5.6 there is no way to get max settings with 3090 OC in VR.

@@freemandiy I’m not saying absolutely everything maxed out. I’m talking about clouds in this case. But will see what they bring by the end of the year.

Theoretically possible with quadtree rendering and optimization, but I can imagine this would be put on the backburner upon Vulkan API implementation makes it to us.

@@norman191000 i think the latter would be more memory consumptive, quadtree rendering is overall more mathematically sound and efficient.

Let's call it for what it is. Want. We probably *want* the JDAM. HARM doesn't need to visually identify it's target, it homes in on radar emissions, so saying we *need* JDAMs because of clouds in a video about HARM HAS sub-modes is a moot point. Yes, clouds are going to make LGBs and Mavericks more difficult to use in situations where clouds are both dense and numerous, however that doesn't mean LGBs and Mavericks are going to be "literally unplayable" as the common mantra seems to be at the moment. JDAMs certainly can be a more accurate strike option, especially in inclement weather, but they aren't desperately *needed*. I want JDAM too, so I can enhance my mission types in all weather conditions, but it's not there yet - and this version of the F-16 is primarily a "Wild Weasel" aircraft, so it makes sense to focus on the systems that make it what it is: a SEAD jet *needs* HARM modes (which we're getting soon) and HTS (which is still being worked on, as I understand). So I get why the F-16 doesn't have JDAMs yet (key word). As frustrating as it might be for some. There are a few ways you may be able to mitigate environmental obscuration: getting below the clouds is the best option - provided it doesn't put you in range of terrain (obviously), AAA or MANPADS. If that can't be achieved, second best (for laser guided munitions) is JTAC (or buddy) lasing though this only works if the cloud base is high enough for the munition to acquire the guidance laser and allow for adjusting its flight path several seconds prior to impact if needed. The third option is to come in from another angle (depending on threat/TOT), or wait for a break in the clouds (assuming they're not static). These are things that have been done by real pilots in active warzones, such as Afghanistan, Iraq and to some extent in Syria. A good example for flying below the cloud base comes from an A-10 pilot assigned to a CAS mission at night/low light and in inclement weather. It'll make you a better sim-pilot too.

@@Elvinsilvester Yeah, I have a habit of doing that. If I'd left it at the first two lines and the last line, it seemed confrontational or accusatory (which wasn't the intended outcome) so I added context. At least, you're saying "want" now, instead of "need". :P Me too, just the latter not the former. Just have to be patient for JDAMs.

@@norman191000 Except that he is correct. The clouds are not tied to the weather engine yet. This release is just to nail the looks of the clouds. Sensors and AI are not affected by the clouds as well.

@@Golden5er everything is a process, they did a great job with the first step. It is easier to write a yt nitpick than to implement voxel clouds into a 15 years old engine.

@@norman191000 it was not a nitpick, but a genuine question. Bignewy helpfully answered it on the discord and clarified that clouds do move currently, and the impression in this video is an arteract of active pause and no wind. None of what I wrote was an insult or nitpick, DCS is by far my favourite simulator and has been so for the past 7 years.
