FINALLY THE KNEEDBOARD WORKS! I know this is silly, but that has been my number 1# missing feature for YEARS. Like why is that not a thing on every aircraft already?
Are you kidding? The Hornet had a working kneeboard from day one until 2.9 when the new pilot model was released. It was just not implemented yet, but was very much with the old pilot model...
I honestly never even thought about the kneeboard because it wasnt working anyways. But after they made it work, i round myself using it all the time to look at airport charts, approach headings or even just the basic map. Its a small but very helpful feature
I noticed that after installing the update, hornet has about maybe 30% more power than before. Also flight model feels very good. Flaps transition is bit more smooth but i still get nose coming up whenever I'm changing flap positions still i think it's compensated than before as well as the engines respond immediately. Not sure was it that responsive before but update gave many aspects a nice touch though.
I don't know if it's more power specifically. Taking off, it feels the same as it did. At ground level, over 400 knots, with burner in, if you roll and pull max G's without hitting paddle; the hornet's speed will now run away from you. Friends of mine and I feel that it is new behavior. For the brake land, the hornet doesn't balloon as badly when you throw gears and flaps. It doesn't take as much effort to get into the e-bar. The turn into finals in the pattern is way different. The hornet's behavior there is way different and I'm still adjusting to it. The throttle is way on a razor's edge. Too much, it won't slow down to descend. Too little and you'll bust the gear now. Interesting enough, the Viper got changed in the same way in finals. It's really hard to slow down. I had maybe 3%-5% throttle in on finals with speed brakes out, which is way less than before.
Finally fights more like it does IRL. This is what the legacy Hornet is KNOWN for. You fuck around and get slow with a Hornet, you will die to the Hornets cannon. The nose authority is eye watering. Ask any Eagle driver that tries to turn with one. Even a 16, if they are DUMB enough to attempt that 9G shit, will die to a Hornet. You gotta get the other guy to fight YOUR fight, not be dumb enough to fight HIS.
Couldn’t agree more but I will say she puts the speed back on much quicker when you unload. I mean the engine response is much much better. But yeah she’s a damn bfm monster now as she should be. Awesome video!
I know a lot of guys say the Viper…and I’ve always felt that the Mirage 2k was the best “dog fighter”….but with the improved engine responsiveness and increased AOA capability, the hornet might be the champ.
@@levibailey6256 the number of "competent tomcat pilots" is so small I think they are just very talented people and jet is still bad for BFM in DCS world. B3rno was one of the greatest f16 pilots and could take over a lot of m2k/18 guys but it doesn't matter that 16 is good for it. Even he jumped in f18 when met real opposition
I fly helicopters in DCS, but was looking for something more. Watched Jetstream some time ago, thinking about the Hornet, and then the FM model changes were announced. I think i need to hop into the Hornet for serious this time, with clean stores that thing absolutely rips around and gets nose on. Great video
Ytp here we see why the F18 hasn't come to war tinder yet. . . 😂 From like, too much WT jet playtime, i'd say you may just kinda just barely lean into the Gs at high speed instead of pulling full to black out, and that may help you keep energy! 😊 That, or keep a centerline tank on the plane and idk how the F/A18a-d flies in dcs, but that may slightly hinder your aoa *(intentionally)* and keep your speed in your turns conversely. But, I may be horribly wrong xD Not bad for 1979 😎👍
@NehemieMomo GS has G effects turned off. A clean F18 beats a clean f16 in everything but climb and roll rate check out the mobettametta server and see how many people choose the f18.
9.1 Instantaneous is okay though right? Don't issues get caused when you are pulling high-G for more than a second? The FCS might not be able to counter a movement like that so you get a 9.1 before it settles into a steady 7.5
@@2KOOLURATOOLGaming 9g on a 7.5g airframe is everything else than "okay" airframe fatigue is cycle dependent, not time dependent. i can balance 10kg on one end of my plastic ruler once, but after i cycle the load there 1000 times, it will most likely snap in half
@@alassadgaming6111 Yes but I'm saying that not every part of the airframe s going to experience that 9G. Just like when you land from a jump, your feet decelerate much faster than your head because your legs act as springs to increase the distance over which you change velocity. In the instantaneous 9G turn, if it only lasts 0.2seconds. The fatigue meters will read differently across the aircraft. I'm sure it won't be a massive difference but there will be some, and it will lessen the extent to which the airframe is flexed. Technically the fatigue meters could read 20Gs in a manoeuvre if it was for a short enough time.
@@2KOOLURATOOLGaming yes I get your point. the differences are just orders of magnitude less than what i understood from your comment. the accelerometers are not at the wingtips!! they are in the center of the fuselage, which means that what they measure, is the load that the wings transfer to it. and on top of that, the wings can only move that much independently before the load begins transferring to the fuselage (F=k*x). the transfer of load is what we actually want to know to predict the life of the airframe!! the airframe itself is very stiff, so it can be assumed to be inflexible (not technically true either) in a small fighter. any meaningful differences in acceleration along the fuselage mean that the structure has flexed beyond repair.
They actually simplified the setup of the helmet textures. As what AWACS_Bandog has mentioned to me. And that there are a couple LUA changes with it as well.
TFW the quality is low because ur early. Also thx for making this, wont be able to play dcs for a while so its good to see what changed with this update.
Im experiencing problems tbh.. Maybe i have to dig into the settings or study how to fly this jet again.. I admit I am kind of a casual gamer, i dont have much free time but i really enjoy flying and dropping some bombs on DCS. The new flight model update for this aircraft is making flying impossible to me. I tried carrier landing and i couldn't even touch the carrier, i tried carrier takeoff but all i did for 15 times was to swim in the waters, i tried everything but i cant make this jet fly faster than 300 knots, and with full afterburner it still loses energy and drops dead on the ground.. Please help
I have no idea how people managed to keep your opponents in site.. I'm vr so I have to physically turn, and don't use zoom because that's cheating, our eyes don't do that irl and the point is to be realistic no? Otherwise might as well play Ace Combat.
how does dogfight servers actually work? I love dogfight but I don't know how you guys find people to fight since there is no automated script like in a normal video game..? do you have to be in a squadron on discord or what
@@hugoferrari6468 just hit "multiplayer" and look for a dogfight server. there is "just dogfight" and "mobettameta" (or something close). just look through the list.
