*Important update since this video was recorded: You now need to select CLDP on AAP panel in order to turn the pod on!* So a small correction it's Sensor point of interest, not specific. Sorry! Been a busy week and SPI has become it's own word to me, having forgotten the acronym over the years :)
@@agdgdgwngo IT also has detailed damage model( u may damage ur weapon if u perform 9 g turn too long)/ detailed environment control system( if u turn that off, radar and screens will go overheat and malfunction) / Oh, and there is an encryption system, u need to switch off before repairing the plane(otherwise, it will erase all data u have)/ and each weapons(gun or missiles) needs a couple seconds to heat up before u can use it
Except it’s not a multi-role aircraft in the accepted operational sense of the term. It has a wide variety of CAPABILITIES, but it s does not have the range, radar or stores capability to carry out day/night multi role missions. It has fantastic capabilities for those who don’t want or need to spend the money on maintaining F-16s, or want new aircraft at same price as well-maintained used F-16s.
@Zayed Haroon Yes the F-16 has had an AESA radar (AN/APG-83) from about 2013. The F-16V (Taiwan) and a number of USAF F-16's are equipped with this radar.
@Zayed Haroon Yes APG-83 SABR, but F-16C, F/A-18C, AV-8B, A-10C all represent 2004-2007 standard, far older than Block 2 JF-17 which production started in 2016.
@@DoctorShocktor Well, although it is using Russian engine, doesnt mean it is a Russian plane. JAS39 is using American engine, BAE avionics and many other countries components it is still considered as a Swedish plane. For this plane, China did main part on design and manufacture part, the first several planes are all Chinese manufactured, then the assembly line will transfer to Pakistan to improve their aerospace industry. Now Pakistan manufacture the wing and will receive the body part from China to finally assemble the plane
I love how the Tpod tracking gates shake a little when locked just like in real life videos. No other modules do this in dcs. Really nice little touches
Clearly, that's just some random noise. Deka forgot that there's also the active pause mode that reveals the little trick. In reality it should be a motion artifact of the computer vision algorithms. In active pause there is NO motion (unless you slew the FOV). Not to mention the jittery stuff is just too frequent and that frequency is rather monotonous.
Wow. I had not been hyped about this aircraft at all, but this looks surprisingly good. Even if there are some bugs to sort these systems well developed already. A great addition to DCS.
Thanks for the awesome tutorial RedKite! The features on Early Access are impressive. Very much excited to see her in action especially in VR. Looking forward to more of these Thunder tutorials. Keep up the amazing work!❤
"With that, that's all there is to the targeting pod." Nice understatement there Mr Kite. Another excellently detailed video as usual. Thank you. How do you get your head around this so quickly? I'm still stunned at the level of detail and completeness this module is delivering at EA. Just goes to show what's missing on other modules and that, over time, we've become numb to this fact.
It helps when you've got the devs on tap to bother them with questions :) Generally though it's just skills transferred from one module to the other, lots of similar ideas so it gets familiar quickly.
@JIB S lol no it did not a Mig 21 and a F16 traded a highly modernized mig21 I have looked deep into this or it is possible a jf17 hit the Mig No su30s where downed.
@@DoctorShocktor It was designed by the Chinese and made in China. I know we can never get the fighter jets that are currently operated by the PLA. This one is the closest we can get.
I like this pod very much. It's very easy to use and the fact that the laser automatically fires when droping ordinance is great. I love the re-focus effect on the zoom, and the overall picture quality is so much better than the F-18's LITENING, especially in FLIR (A-10C's is better than that, but still doesn't look as good as this.). The 20nm range for area track is not a concern since A/G radar is better at spotting at longer ranges, and the SPI SLAVE mode makes up for it. Doesn't have as good of a zoom as the F-14's TCS, but the video quality makes up for it when ID-ing during intercepts. I think what I like the most coming from the LITENING is that the image doesn't get cut off at the corners when you maneuver, ensuring you maintain good visibility of the area if you're attacking SHORADs or FARPs.
Loving all the special settings in options. The slew speed is an awesome idea. Some other devs could take note on both the options but also the release state of this aircraft!
Some aircraft have slew rate controls built into the mfd/pod pages themselves. Failing that, if you're using an axis you can adjust saturation to reduce the maximum speed.
@@wx7742 I call them Ib since cataract surgery which is the removal of the eye's own lens. The artificial ones can't focus unless they're some special ones which are expensive. But I can get around this in DCS quite well with VR and some lenses attached to my Rift. Luckily I also don't need glasses for the usual monitor and reading distances, so it could be worse :)
If the integration and use of a Targeting pod was not considered in the design phase of avionics systems, then either a totally new databus has to be installed (like that of 1553B but of higher number of inputs) or a parallel and second databus has to be added. Targeting pod is like a second radar in terms of avionics, so the wiring and computers shall need changes. Pod is not a weapons payload, its a sensor with multiple outputs like a radar. Slaving pod to the radar-designated target will only be possible (like mentioned in video) if there is a totally new databus installed which can support both radar and pod at the same time. In alternate case of parallel wiring, only one of the two can be used at a time, either radar or targeting pod.
Is that a ground radar that I'm seeing BEFORE release?...… At least I have both the Viper and Hornet that definitely are getting their AG radar soon soon.
I hope that ED can use at least some of the coding for the AG radar. Hornet is in crave need of some proper loving at this point. TWS and ag radar missing is so painful.
Whenever i press the button from off to bit, it says the time remaining is 0 immediately and i cant do anything about it, cant turn it back off, and the wmd7 flashes when i return to the previous menu. What am i doing wrong here?
@UCi6UcoEDbPs_c7Ox-W52xkQ after u press wmd7, look at the top left button on ure mfcd, it will say cage. Press that button to uncage it, and again to cage the tgp once more
@@RedKiteRender well more specifically can you enter lat long coordinates into the UFC to slew the targeting pod onto a Target or is that more or less an a-10 only feature?
Great video as always RedKite!👍🏼 What are your thoughts on the Thunder ? Is this bird gonna be more fun and more capable than Viper? Can’t decide which one should I buy lol. Help meee pleaseee guys 😀😀
I've been having more fun with it than the Viper. Mostly because it's got almost all the systems going right now. I think in the long run the Viper will be my favourite, but it's got a lot of development to go through first.
You mean turned on and the camera slewed to look forward? It’s stowed with the lens inside the housing. So if it didn’t do that, you would have a non functional pod. I for one want a pod that works. I hope it stays the same.
@@KTFBGB Except when the pod did that in this case, it did a 180 degree roll in 1 frame's worth of time once the 'head' slewed forward. The flip occurs between 0:03 and 0:04, as it moves out of its stowed position you can see that the 'head' is composed of a large circular lens and a much smaller but elongated one to the left of the big circular one (from our viewing angle), just before 0:04 you see that the positions of the 2 lenses have flipped, the 'head' has done a full 180 degree roll within 1 frame's worth of time.
Does anyone have any idea on pricing and how much its gonna be on release? Would be great to be able to know that ahead of time so I can plan my budget.
thx alot again for a wonderfull tutorial, btw shouldnt you be uploading the next videos? we really depend on you as infos on the new bird and how to's are not included, heck i couldnt even find a quickstart manual in the games folder
Gran vídeo, tengo una pregunta: Cómo se utiliza el modo MANUAL del láser? Enel modo AUTO el láser se dispara solo pero en el modo MANUAL no sé cómo activarlo. Muchas gracias y un saludo.
The aircraft FCS will limit you to 8g in AA mode and 6g in AG loadout mode, Exceeding 6g can damage A2G stores and fuel tanks. The pod doesn't appear to have a g-limit (or at least not modelled yet)
Watching this video and commenting now allbeit a bit late ;) I have several problems slewing TGP to WP.. I cant find t5 slew keybind.. what is that? I choose a waypointand the pod doesnt slew despite being in Slave mode...
I would rather question the whole aircraft's realism in general, considering it's a modern design (not as modern as the Block 3 is supposed to be, but still) and it's a Chinese plane module made by Chinese people (who can resist the temptation to promote their own stuff and get some patriotism boost as a side effect?)
@@wangfeng1145 You meant "the US", not "us", I suppose? Wags is an American, but he makes nothing. Those modules are made by Russian guys. You could say, "ok, then they will make the planes worse!" But you are forgetting that the development is supervised by Americans. A much better scheme than Chinese planes developed by Chinese and not really supervised by anyone else.
10:04 well YEAH ! youre in ground moving target mode ofc you will be able to find easier moving targets and harder stationary targets!this is why you have the map mode
Thats not exactly what i meant. Im saying a static target is harder to find in a busy environment full stop, doesn't matter the mode. Where as moving targets can be filtered.
I've not noticed it be any worse or better than the hornet, but then my system doesn't struggle with dcs (unless it's vr) so i couldn't say exactly without doing very careful tests.
Ah sorry, might be sensor, Been a long time since i've said spi in full. The manual doesn't state and i've been somewhat overworked with the recent pre-release! Doesn't make too much difference at least. I'l see about mentioning a correction in part 2 if required.
Bug with multiplayer i believe. Should be fixed next patch. In the meantime people have reported pressing the radio iff button seems to unstick it and get it working for you
@@RedKiteRender Hmm seems a little odd, since I've been following your guide in SP. Anyway gonna leave the JF17 for a bit, Im having a bunch of crashing issues with the thing as well. Just random, out of no where crashes, doesnt matter what Im doing. Thanks for the quick response and great videos though :)
Only one question. When you put the tgp in area track the tgp will set what you are looking as spi. But if you move the tgp the will change or you have to repress the area point track
@@RedKiteRender man that s not good. It is like in american pos when you are lasing. To exit the area track you press unlock so. NATO pod are better. In jf 17 you have to create a mark if you dont want to lose your spi ):
Trouble is the ground radar is very basic at moment and most of it has minimal functionality. I can't do a meaningful tutorial on it beyond perhaps the sea radar mode, but even that is lacking the sub modes. You can use things like the DBS mode, sort of, but its a bit wonky. There isn't much more to learn than you could from messing around with it first hand for a few mins.
I really like the compass in the A-10C TGP but I don't think any of the other planes in DCS have it. Works great for trying to describe a location to a wingman. I wish the all had the compass!
@@bullitthead7853 I hope so, too. But the TGP display interface is made according to the real one. As far as I know JF17 interface with wmd7 has no compass. If PAF/chengdu upgrades it, and DIS gets enough information, it is easy to add it.
@@朱古力-x8n It would be great to have but accuracy in the simulation is definitely more important. If the real jet doesn't have it, then it shouldn't be in the sim either.
Best i can say is write down the controls i list, then search for them in the controls bindings menu and note the inputs. I don't recommend trying to seriously play DCS with keyboard only however. You're much better off with at least a mid tier hotas, even an xpad is better than keyboard, although very limited. The channel Tuuvas has specialised in gamepad controls for DCS.
@@RedKiteRender I did bind that right before I stopped playing because I was told that was the way to get out of dogfight mode. Do I need to be in AA or AG modes to use the radar? I think I was assuming I could use the radar even in nav mode.
they really need to bake better ambient occlusion in the cockpit. work on the textures, would never consider to buy this with its current cockpit graphics.
