DCS Kola Map Honest Review 

Thank you for this honest review. This is WAY worse than South Atlantic map was on release (a map that's since MUCH improved, but it was once pretty poor, let's be honest). It's genuinely shocking to see how bad this latest product is. Something is up with ED at the moment, I can't say for sure what it is, I've read the rumours, and seen the screenshots and don't wish to add to the rumours, but I can't help it, so I will... press release follows: The Fighter Collection's Nick Grey has released the following statement: “It is with much regret that we confirm our decision to cancel the upcoming Flying Legends Airshow 2024. This decision has not been made lightly and follows an in depth assessment of our options for the year ahead." (end of press release) Now some out there will be thinking "this is all just one big coincidence!". Sure, it has nothing to do with un-finished products being released, older ones not even being finished anymore (anyone remember the super carrier?) Then of course the recent Raz-bam with Razbam, various key employees publicly quit, over alleged non-payment for the F15E. Some now suspect full damage control now in effect over there, meanwhile endless back to back sales with more early access titles going live with fewer details or readiness than ever, to plug a hole that (apparently) doesn't need plugging. Thank you for this review. I own most of the DCS DLC and between this and Enigma's review pointing out that huge distances between the air bases, this map seems not only rushed and DOA but also fundamentally flawed in ways that I'm not sure they can even fix.

I’m so glad I held off on this, especially when I heard developers from the S/A map were working on this. I also can’t believe the Sinai map is coming up a year with no major update. What the heck is up with ED?

Smaller channels are now giving more honest opinions pointing out the same problems. 100% agree on what you said about Sinai. Once Sinai finally gets its first major update "soon" I know I will be much happier with it. Kola was released months too early. Maybe the Razbam drama and all the other modules scheduled for leases over the next 3 months required this "extra-early" access release. This is from Orbx and they will not want to risk their good reputation on such a poor first impression so they will probably want to get some major updates in FAST.

Honestly…. How dare Eagle Dynamic allow that utter rubbish to be released, Nick Grey should be embarrassed and whoever is in his quality control department should be sacked… yes I know it’s an Orbx map therefore equally they should be having serious discussions with their development team. Which brings me on to this next point…If the rumour is true and it’s the same development team who did South Atlantic Map I am beginning to think ED have a point not paying Razbam and the argument is not ED Razbam, it’s Razbam and their Map development team. suffice to say, Orbx who have produced quality maps before have seriously let themselves down!

Thanks for the honest review. I felt the same from watching a lot of live streams. Lots of big YTers get modules for free and essentially are advertising, not reviewing. There definitely are a few good looking spots on this map you can focus on, but the vast majority looks just terrible. Also communication is bad from Orbx, they do not seem to know what the heck they are doing. It is really bad. They also do not like criticism hahaha. Glad i jumped off the hype train long ago, i don't see this going anywhere.

This is what happens when you have to recoup your money on a failed product. You release it anyway, get DCS promoters to give it a good review so more people buy it and then you screw over your fan base. I didn't buy the Kola map but I definitely won't now and will be super skeptical of all future map releases.

finally a honest review in my youtube feed, was watching the others praise this map and i couldnt believe it. especially as a rotorhead this is absolutely unacceptable. this feels like a sunken cost fallacy from orbx, they should have been honest and ejected early from this project, but now they had to release to generate income for the invested effort. their experience in MSFS obviously doesnt translate to DCS so far and picking a map of this scale and being a green map, which is harder to realize, definitely set the ambitions too high.

The DCS RU-vidrs just can’t be trusted not to shill for new products. Iain Christie did a really good honest review yesterday. But other than him few of the big guys have said anything negative. I hope it improves but I’ve bought Orbx products over the years and they are often hit and miss. I feel I bought the SA for the assets like the HMS Illustious, a few local assets would also be nice.

I hope with the amount of refunds requested this changes EDs QA steps to assuring DCS players get at least a certain degree of quality. This is just a total flop and let down
