DCS VR Cockpit Test Flight with Full Flight Gear 

This is the cockpit I’m aiming for, but the wife says the kids need to eat and blah blah blah. Someone needs to talk some sense into her.

This is the 4th video I found on how to play DCS. Clearly this is the only way.

I was searching for head tracking, came across DCS and ended up here. That startup sequence brought back memories from when I worked on the RAAF F/A-18 simulators. You have an impressive setup there.

if you put a green screen cloth around the real cockpit that you have, i figure you could do a mixed reality video. where it shows your actual perspective IRL and overlay that on the gameplay

Cool, but the flight suit is over kill. Fly Hawaiian, sandals, shorts, and Hawaiian shirt. So much more comfortable. Great job though in setting that up.

Very nice setup. Folks if you like the fighter cockpit setup, you should see some of the airliner cockpits people are building in their homes. Mostly the 737 or A-320, complete with locking cockpit door. And yes, some of them are married, lol. If you’re married to a fellow simmer you are golden. Props to this guy for his work into making his experience more satisfying, I’m not even mad about the flight suit, full immersion baby.

Would it be to much to ask for the devs to get this man a little clipboard with a couple checklists for VR?? You'll get bonus points if you toss in a pencil, and make it interactive, at least since very simple bullet points, and a box he can click to check...oh yea while you're down there...give him a knee to strap it to. Awesome setup dude, compmete immersion, I love it. By the way, even though your virtual cockpit didn't have a checklist...I saw what appeared to be some in your real cockpit...+ bonus points there. Maybe next you can close in that canopy, and add you some cooling...or wire you up some water cooling in your suit...since you dont have to be worried about g-strain, and suit inflation, maybe you could run some tubes through it. As much as I hate saying this stupid business name, 'cool-dat-ass', makes a water cooling system that runs through a beaded like car seat cover. Small icechest, inlet and outlet quick connects, programmable thermal control...a conveniently 3d printed adapter that holds a fish tank pump, and circulates water on a loop through the seat. Super easy to make...but for the price, it may be easier and cheaper to but it. You can every component individually. My wife is a mail carrier, her mail truck doesnt have ac, so I bought her one...makes the coastal Alabama inferno survivable. Good luck bro, I cant wait to see where you go with it.

I’m a real life Air Force pilot and I get scared imaging the price. As much as I want to fly more, this seems ridiculously expansive.

you can bind a key to change your camera position up down left and right in dcs. that would allow you to move your camera out of the low position it seems to be in. great video.

In dcs control settings there's a sun menu named "ui layer" where you can bind a key (I used spacebar) to recenter the VR head position so it is correct once you're in pit and ready to go

This video made me super happy! The nerd in me makes somersaults. Awesome build. Would be cool if the fan turned on once the cockpit opens to simulate outside environment.

You can bind a key to recenter the HMD in DCS. This will help when the position in game is off. Very nicely build cockpit though, im jealous! :D

VR capture gloves...would they help with being blind as to where your hands are? It's like feeling around in the dark with VR, even if you have practice.

So how does having physical buttons (I love) work with VR when you can't see them? That's a lot of muscle memory and in the heat of battle, an easy mistake. Hell, just typing this reply without VR I made 3 mistakes. lol

Hey, really awesome project there! I have a question about what you wrote in the description, specifically this part: "You could see it's quite fluid in term of using the panel inside VR, but in some occassion I reach to a wrong knobs no harm, but just awkward. Some I have to peek through the opening near my nose for UFC button especially. The rest are mostly reflexes." My question is how do you align yourself with the VR pit? Apparently it's not entirely perfect but do you use a special procedure e.g. resting the VR HMD in a special place and reset them there? Thanks in advance, awesome stuff! :)
