Daily ruling for June 11, 2021 - Grief + Ephemerate. How does evoke work with instant-speed blink effects? Tags: Zone Changes, Triggered Abilities, Timing and Priority, L1 Prep
Hello, I have a question. I have an untapped Eldrazi Temple, Mystic Forge and Ugin, the Ineffable in play. On top of my library is a Thought-Knot Seer. May I cast the TKS from the top of the library at the discounted cost of 2 colorless mana? What about if I have a Trinisphere also in play? Would the TKS cost a total of three colorless mana to play from the top of the library instead?
What if i evoke grief, and an opponent plays mystic reflection, making the grief i evoked come into play as a copy of another grief that was already in play? Would my grief still by sacrificed?
Yes you sacrifice it since the evoke trigger will still occur as you cast the permanent for its evoke cost. You will sacrifice it even if your grieve enters the battlefield as any other permanent card.
@@FatJoeDeluxe nice. Thanks! So this means that the other ability, the discard effect, would also happen. Would the discard happen if it came into play as a copy of grizzly bears?
@@SpitefulAZ the effect wouldn't trigger, as the card would come into play, not as grief but as grizzly bears, so as the card comes into play and is checked for etb triggers it is already grizzly bears. A very cool card but unfortunately without any etb abilities ^^
@@SpitefulAZ by the way with mystic reflection you can shut down blink deca like bravo or yorion, as all etb triggers won't happen! So it is a very good pro active and responsive card
@@FatJoeDeluxe okay that's what I thought. But now I don't understand why an evoked creature is still sacrificed if it is evoked and comes into play as a copy of grizzly bears, since evoke ruling also starts with "when this permanent enters the battlefield...." so wouldn't it lose that ETB trigger just like it lost the discard ETB trigger? 🤔
