This is compressed air. Cartridge starts are used on occasion (say if no air is available) but stocks are unfortunately low. I'm yet to see one of those starts myself!

I only just learned (or relearned as maybe I knew but forgot) about art ridge starts after going down RU-vid rabbit hole that started with the SR71 startup, somewhere eventually getting me to one that was hand cranked in a dudes backyard and then to this (I already subscribe to your channel). This was a good one to end up on in that journey considering I’m a Kiwi and have a flown in and out of Wanganui a few times many decades ago.
