De Maas was the smallest sugar mill on the island and this video was recorded just a couple of weeks before it finished its last season in August 1999. It was Independence Day, Hari Merdeka, hence the mill's hooter was being sounded.
This video is the work of the late Ray Gardiner, recorded in pre-digital days, hence not of the usual quality of this series. John Raby - / johnraby - has helped by applying some enhancements to the original material.
