Just wanted to say Georg is the first person I heard on RU-vid where I realized there was a wealth of information with good creators. I am forever grateful for you showing me that RU-vid actually has people who create well meaning great "content"
Subnautica is always fun. Nothing feels more invigorating than reaching that next echelon of equipment creation and I do love reading everyone's logs as you play.
I really enjoy your work, and as insightful and informative as it is, I really enjoy the more conversational tone and content on these; nearly equally enjoyable. Please keep it up, and may the God of RU-vid Algorithms shine upon you both!
Regarding the lens thingy, It does sound a lot like a tilt-shift lens when I hear about it. If I remember the lore, they were mostly used by aerial reconnaissance to enable them to use lenses wide open and still have everything at ground plane in focus. By essentially manipulating the depth of field plane so all the interesting bits are in it. Also used in product photography as well for the same reason. Later on they became popular to use as a gimmick as you could purposely misuse it to make the depth of field plane cut through landscapes and objects instead of along them. Coupled with short shuttertimes and timelapses and other effects, you could then make a real world landscape look like a miniature puppet animation. As Snyders cinematography reminds me most of a generic Wedding Videographer, I wouldn't be surprised to find out he went for the most gimicky lenses he could find.
I've been playing Cyberpunk for the last year or so, the DLC came out as I was about to finish. Since i never played the game in the beginning, all I have is nothing but praise. The city is gorgeous, I never fast travel. The ganeplay, story, graphics are all great imo. The saddest part is that I'm nearing the end and it's gonna suck when its over. (Also i highly recommended the Anime "Edgerunners" it's a great companion piece to the game) Cheers from Chile!
@@patrickbeattie8034 I started playing the DLC with a few missions still left in the main game, and it didn't make a difference. But the DLC does have weapons, cars and cyberdecks that aren't on the main game. I would get it because of that and because it opens up the whole map.
Foundation is worth the time investment even though it feels like homework sometimes. Ted Lasso is nice, it’s like if a Richard Curtis comedy wasn’t shit. And Slow Horses is legitimately one of the best spy drama series I’ve ever seen, it’s just Gary Oldman putting on a masterclass, there’s levity but the threat still feels serious, and Apple is probably going to make all of the books (there are 8) into a season of it.
The more apt comparison for Rebel Moon, for me, wasn't Star wars, it was Space Raiders. A cheap star wars knock off by Roger Corman from the early 80s, thats what it felt like.
Would love to hear you speak about some books that you liked. TV series: patriot - some dark humour, only got 2 seasons, and Rubicon, only 1 season made. Show had quite a unique premise
if your apple tv + free trial hasn’t ran out, the animated irish folk movies by cartoon saloon are really well done. especially wolfwalkers. they’re not dumbed down for kids, they’re like ghibli movies in the way that they are for everyone. incredibly beautiful animation as well.
Happy New Year! While I was disappointed at not getting a jar of Hiptang for Christmas, but maybe 2024 will come up good there. Would be interested to hear your thoughts on the charming little game Donut County.
I have a theory about the numbers being sorted in Severance - given the emotional response that the characters are having, might they be fine-tuning their own implant algorithms?
Welcome back. Been following for a while. Was just about to ask your thoughts on subnautica and bz- I had coincidentally started playing the first time when you first mentioned it in passing in a previous dead air. I agreed the first game was fantastic, but was really underwhelmed by the sequel, so was curious to hear your opinion on it. Cheers
Ye should watch Brandon Cronenberg's 'Possesor'. It's like a quality feature length Black Mirror episode with much better cinematography and some haunting imagery. Genuinely the greatest sci-fi film of the last few years. Chip off the ol block, lil Brandon. (His latest film 2023's 'Infinity Pool' is good, but a little bit self indulgent, so watch Possessor first.) Season 5 of Fargo, is some of the best TV of recent years. Like every other season, it's a self contained story, so you can jump right into S05E01 with no context or setup. Juno Temple and Jon Hamm are amazing in it, as is Jennifer Jason Leigh , who's also in Possessor.
Rebel Moon was meant to be a Star Wars movie before the new Star Wars era. Lucasfilm were not interested in buying Snyder's script or having him involved so they went their own way. He decided to rewrite and produced something that definitely isn't Star Wars... 🙃🙄
Has Christina ever played Outer Wilds? (not outer worlds, that's the fallout-like game) It's basically Subnautica without the survival aspects, it was one of my favorite games I've ever played
Recommendation for a show to watch: The recent Fargo TV show, It's absolutely fantastic, Martin Freemans acting skills really shine in the first season.
Checkout Carol and the End of the World. It's not laugh a minute or the sort of thing to watch when you're feeling down and need a pick-me-up, but it's got charm.
It's RU-vid, I've been experiencing my comments not posting also lately. Sometimes I'll have to try to comment 6 or more times before it will finally take and then when I exit and come back there will be like 4 comments that said failed to post but posted anyway.
Georg you missed nothing by skipping the rest of Rebel Moon. It plays out exactly as you would expect, except even more stupid. And none of the band of heroes do anything. You thought the general who became a gladiator (yes, really) would come up with a battle plan? You thought the beast master guy would save the day using his powers? You thought the double lightsaber ninja lady would assassinate a key bad guy? Well, they don't.
Severance was amazing. Only other thing I’ve watched on Apple is Foundation. Which is decent but the first two episodes are terrible. Really awful. But it gets better from the third onwards. Little to do with the book from what I’ve heard. Want to give Servant a go. Rebel Moon was ass
Foundation is meh. Putting aside the bastardization and simplification of the source material, it's mediocre at best. For All Mankind is the closest thing in TV's current SF landscape that comes even close to the late, great Expanse. Slow Horses is another strong contender on Apple TV+ - a kind of Bond without any superheroes or absurd set pieces that acknowledges the fact that intelligence operatives are actually just human beings. Gary Oldman is a sheer delight and the rest of the cast is, improbably, just as good.
I refuse to believe that anything written by the literally divine Zack Snyder, is a bland pile of meaningless crap, full of puerile posturing that seems to think it's adult. It's just impossible.
