Dead Battery: Opening the Hood on your Porsche 911 

I want to share one detail: an intelligent charger will not provide any power since it senses that there is no battery on the other side at the connector. In fact, when you connect the power it is in direct connect with the ECU that controls the hood lock, not the car battery. So, you must connect a 12V battery or a ’stupid charger’ to the connector at the fuse box, else the hood will not open up. BTW, very good video 👍

So, you must connect a 12V battery or a ’stupid charger’ to the connector at the fuse box, else the hood will not open up. Also, the powersupply will only feed the ECU, not for charging the battery. I.e. the rest of the car will remain dead, so use the keyfob to open the hood. BTW, great video 👍

Use the metal key in the key fob to open the door if the battery is so flat you cannot remote unlock. I use a small 12v battery to provide the power needed. A dead battery may not have enough power to do it. Connect the positive to the pull out connector in the fuse box and the negative to a convenient ground point. I use the metal door strap. You can only release the trunk in this way using the key remote. If all else fails, there a cable behind the front left wheel arch liner. Remove the wheel and the screws retaining the liner to get to it.

If you a Porsche owner a trickle charger is a must as these batteries will discharge in sometimes as little as a week if not used regular

This works when you can enter. What about 2007 Porsche Boxster with doors locked and the battery dead?

Hi I have a 1998 Boxster. The fuse is not in the panel for me to do that. So what do I do to open the hood? For some reason the fuse is missing?

What you critically fail to mention is the use of the key (within in the remote control) IF you have KEY LESS entry. Using the short stumpy key is NOT easy to open the drivers door.

Mine doesn’t have that red thing in the footwell.

Hi E28 Source, I tried connecting jumper cables from another car to my Porsche's frunk fuse but neither the key fob nor the frunk button in the car is working. Do you have another suggestion?

Hi, this hasn't worked. I have a 2007 997 Turbo. Battery is completely dead, nothing at all. I've definitely got power to the car using the method recommeded, but neither key fob or car switch work. Any suggestions from anyone? (will this work if the battery is for some reason useless? - I'm not a mechanic so clucthing a little here). Thanks, david

This didn't work for me. Next step is to try and get access to the emergency release latch next to the passenger front arch.

Sorry Bud.. That only works on the Gen 2.. Gen1 does not have the fuse box post..

you can also open the trunk with a switch on the left side near the drivers seat
