Jeff Chimenti on keys is the bomb diggity, the bees knees, plus all that & a bag of chips. He's been killing it & making Dead music come fantastically alive for nearly 25 years.
@@hettel_visual Hah! Now that was funny. Chimenti is the top banana and the big cheese...the head honcho...the boss man. He is peachy keen. How old can we get?
Completely agree 👍🏼 He has done his homework and studies the original versions/Jerry's style and once confident in that, now incorporates his own unique and incredible style. The last few tours have gotten increasingly stronger and this summer/fall 21 tour is pure magic, in my opinion. I sense the confidence to go to different places, try different things and step in for a solo more now than I have before. The whole band sounds 👌🏼 to me and I also like the change in setlists. Not as predictable as before, new songs added in. The reprises from set to set and even from one show to another have been really fun to listen to/see!
Obviously you weren't around back in the day and you didn't go to any Jerry shows but in fact it's nothing like Jerry because John Mayer is nowhere near the level of Jerry. It really stinks that you would say something like that but then again you are ignorant. This is so lame and slow it's simply just awful and you just don't even know it. Let me guess, you were born after Jerry died.
Mayer is a beast. I've done solo shows and, Jesus, getting through 45-minutes takes some doing. He's expected to to stay inventive for three-hour shows night-after-night..
@@mobettabud30 took my kids to the Cincy show last Saturday. I got 4 tickets for 20 bucks. Find your way to a show and you'll get in for a song and a dance.
saw this live and couldnt tell if it was going to be bird song hes gone or the other one. it was the best. one of the best live renditions of any song ive heard
Wow! This Fall Tour really shows "The Dead" is playing their best yet after five years of playing together. John doesn't sound like John aa much, or like Jerry, as much as before. Very ego-less playing that really let's the interpretation of this song come through very uniquely fresh, yet feels like seeing an old friend you didn't know was around still. I've seen many Bird Songs from 88'-95'. I wish I could have been at this show! Some super hot jams that really bring it on! They've found their magic together lately and it was well worth the wait!. Excellent!👍🔥🔥🔥✌️
@@timturk1899 I was saying the same thing. This past tour sounded different then others, Mayers letting loose not trying to imitate but create and it sounds beautiful. nothing like when Jerry was here but the music never stopped and I cant be more grateful
I really appreciate Mayer delving out to be in a jam band like the Grateful Dead and just experimenting as well as keeping his amazing solo career going. Mad props!!
This incarnation of the band is the best it ever was since 1995. I don’t need to channel Jerry to enjoy the music..Mayer is brilliant… as is Oteil, and Jeff… What I wish of this group of really talented individuals, is for some NEW MUSIC to come out. If Billy Strings can raid the Catalog of unused Robert Hunter poems and come up with a really great song, why can’t Dead and Company?
I look forward to seeing you guys perform at SPAC this 2023 summer. ❤I have not been there ever and so that makes me a Virgin to SPAC, yet my second time to see you guys live in concert… I’m not a veteran for Traveling with the Band but I have climbed many mountains to finally get to you guys, the music in person… Kudos to your addition JM and thank you for not giving up the tour… I hope 🤞🏼 all goes well and the universe aligns us with all the stars ✨ as this journey is about connection realization of your own inner joy… may your soul illuminate specially your truth l, a message of peace, love and harmony… May you all stay present, may you all stay safe be humble feed the hungry and let us dance with the music still in us!! Grateful to be in this space, In this gorgeous tapestry of freedom friendship and family of talented musicians, artists, healers, lovers, alchemists and others may we all enjoy the Dead 💀 & Company Peace Soul brothers and Sisters & light-bringers…. ☮️ ❤ 💫 Erin
@@sealevelbear I'll be at the Dallas one, but I'm like 40 minutes from the Houston Pavillion lol, I didn't know they were going to play here. I hope we both have a great time.
Just hit the 12:00 mark. Good gawd, y'all. These cats keep discovering new ways to explore space. Frikkin A. And then double time? WTF... feel like i'm tripping just watching this beast. And as to comparing this to the original band... um, why?

@@mwatershoes I think Lance was saying that the playing was Garcia-esque at that moment. Jerry's influence is huge among guitarists of every genre. John's idols are blues guys, but John has listened to a lot of Jerry and it's evident. Mayer is an astounding player.
Bob singing the Garcia tunes just hits me. Incredibly beautiful phrasing. As the guy who always brought the high energy portions of the show vocally, the dark in Bob’s voice man. Talk about respecting his buddies tune
A great band for sure, and this tour is no exception. Let's just skip past how good Mayer is, he's way past proving himself now. What I'd like to add is how sweet and good the pianist is. Sorry for not knowing his name.
Thanks friends! it is Jeff ! His fills are so appropriate and delicate. Had only just recently seen him in Weir's 'other' band, the one with the horn section, and loved him there too. btw hope you all seen the Weir doc "The Other One". It's on Netflix and I just gobbled it up. So much I did not know, despite having bought Live/Dead in '70. And then slowly everything else (almost).
I love that Chimenti has changed positions so that he is next to Mayer - - now they can play off each other. Their musical conversations, which they couldn't have when Chimenti was on the other side of the stage, are amazing. Check out minute 11:40. Great change!
I've been put off by J Mayer's offstage personality, but his tone and phrasing and modal excursions here are truly Jerry worthy. He and J Chimenti have a special connection too. Beautiful.
Wow. This is STUPENDOUS. Love the long JM Intro. And the Broner between JM& Jefe: Golden. Gawd, please let this band continue to evolve and chart new territories…JM, has anyone reminded you your humility is your Gift? You Listen. Nice work, Man.💕💀🎶🌈
I love hearing Bird Song, Morning Dew and Row Jimmy live (amongst every other song, lol) but those in particular, along with Cold Rain and Snow are just so great!
Interesting that John is playing the Silver Sky almost exclusively. I guess he's really liking the new pickups for the 2021 version. To me it now sounds closer to his Silver PRS McCarty 594(which has a bit of strat tone). Maybe it's also to keep stage volume down and blend in more - the Super Eagle seemed like a much louder guitar with a lot more frequencies.
I prefer the SE2 humbucker tones but JM is cruising at 50,000 feet so Im glad he is expressing himself through his preferred method. A little more drive or dirt would be cool though.
He plays the modded guitar when it’s necessary… plus he’s also paid to promote the Sliver Sky for PRS. I think for this band he had special FX PEDALS made with the same circuitry as the implanted mods on the other guitar.. that’s why he still gets the “dead “ sound from it. A year or two ago his Sliver Sky didn’t sound like it does now..
I like the guitar he was playing on “Playing in the Sand in 2019. It looks like it is the one on the guitar stand on stage this tour. Best tone I’ve heard him get for D&E, but this Strat is the second best, no complaints, the music is sweet 😋
What’s interesting is that the SPAC show is the only show of the tour where I didn’t see JM switch guitars at least once. I went with my father - he played the silver sky the entire show.
Wow - Birdsong not a song I knew very well - this is an AMAZING version ! Great flow, wandering jams that came around - love it ! Cant wait to see you in Bristow !
Saw most of my shows in the mid to late 80"s and Billy and Mickey were young looking at least. Suddenly, they look older and so do I. I miss those days
You're my boy Blue! (Bob) ( Movie-old school; ) I was there and When this song ended ...thought to myself 'what a trip that was...I wanna go on that ride again' Second set was an awesome adventure too! Thank you Band
Birdsong top notch thanks brothers on stage! Looks like you’all are having a fine time. How about Eugene next tour? Seattle, Portland? GD roots are big big in the PNW, and you original fellas know it !
Bit disappointed Florida was canceled. This was a great video, thanks for posting. Back in say maybe 87, I had a new 900cc motorcycle and touring with the Dead was my destination, those parking lots felt like family...Sort of, lol. Never felt not safe.
I'm impressed that Mayer doesn't offer to buy Bob a sandwich and then say ... Ooops ... sorry Bob .. I forgot you were in the band. Kidding. Bobby is rocking it. Great stuff. Band is really killing it.
Nice jam, interplay, Other One references, blueseyness, trippy rock, slow-mo fun and frantic thematic rushes - all in one done with only one hint of sloppiness.
