a country song about shooting up. prob the first of it's kind. The best rock n roll band of all time has one of the greatest country songs ever. brilliant
An entire genre of music will be lost when Mick or Keith passes. These people were Gods gift to our generation. Saw them 7 times, starting in 71. They defined my life with their music. Took me through a lot of hard times and confusion. Thanks God.
I was trying to explain this to someone the other day on here. I couldn’t think of how the fuck to explain it to some keyboard warrior. This does it cheers! Thanks
An old junkie I loved the way the song takes me back…Been off the horse 40 yrs that’s the only reason I can comment..Anyway back to this album that sparked some of the stone’s best song’s..My God they are on the sixty year concert tour…I’m in the same boat could bite the dust at any time….No regrets….
You know I stumbled on to this track cause I was thinking about my older brother who was a big stones fan, he took me to a concert in 89'. My brother passed 12 years ago when I hear these songs I think of him.
Few songs bring greater peace and joy. We got high together almost fifty years. And almost everytime between freezing dippers and busting rails. Between the expensive wine and the cheap beer. While making those 5 A.M. Bloody Mary's and cleaning out the tooters, and smoking that last Dip before work. This would be playing through our conversation in the background. You know who you are. Thank you. Peace.
Hmmm.... its like it was yesterday when i bought this 8 track. I didn't know what it all meant. I understand now. I bought it in 1971 before i went to Vietnam. Now im an old man. That was 49 years ago....🥀
I'll never forget one day when I asked my dad what his favorite Rolling Stones song was, and he said Dead Flowers. I'd never heard it so he sung a few bars from the chorus and let out a small sob when he sang "and I won't forget to leave roses on your grave". I miss him every day.
I think every boomer feels a stab in the heart when Mick sings that lyric about roses on your grave that last time .. because all our mothers are gone now. And every Christmas, I never forget to put new roses (actually pointsettas) on her grave Then I take a pic of it and text it to my seven brothers and sisters. And it was this song that moved me to do it
This song reminds me of my uncle Steve who passed away around 7 years ago from MND. In the 80s when id be at his house, or at his American car yard in London, he would always be listening to the Stones. He always loved this song. He was one of the type of guys that could leave the house with nothing and get home with a hand full of cash. He always saw opportunity, never complained about how life or anyone did him wrong. The man has a smile and laugh that would make everyone else in the room be happy. Always fixing something something or doing something. Miss that man!
Yesterday I was planting petunias on My Miss Miss grave, the love of my life my Beautiful wife MP. This song just popped into my brain. She passed away last year nothing to do with drugs.. I am so lucky to have had her for 29 years. The best years of my life, Oh I miss her so. So now I am sitting on my back porch play this song having a coup of coffee while looking at My Miss Miss grave as her grave is in our back yard. Next to the place we got married.. What a song to plant flowers on her grave thank's for this song you Guys. Update 10/29/2020: Saturday Night the last day of October will now be One year for me that M. died it is songs like this that got me through this. And yes I have Roses for her Grave. Thank each and every one of you for your kind thoughts. Gary GP
If you ever seen footage of the Hyde park concert in 69 ma wee dad pistol Pete was up a tree listening for free with a pink shirt on 😢gotta love the old bastardxxforgivenxbro
Charlie’s double ding on his ride bell to cue the end of the song is a lesson in and of itself on how to be the drummer in a band. Nuff said…thanks, Charlie
I just saw the Stones in Nashville this weekend and they played this classic. Yet another legendary performance by the greatest rock and roll band of all time!
Say whatever you want about the Stones...ain't another rock band ever that could switch musical genres and make you feel like they were the mississippi bluesmen, country honkin' , Motown-loving and Chuck Berry-swangin Kings of the World.
I'm listening to this song in 2020, and I've been into this album for about 50 years now. Drugs sex rock n roll times are past but ahh the music lives!
I went from liken Partridge Family songs to RocknRoll music, Those concerts in 70s were crazy with hardly any security. I got lucky Allman Brothers played at a local bar. Friend gave Mick a nickname ( rooster on acid) cause of his energy on stage
The greatest rock n roll moment of my life, was when my Dad, Manager of RFK STADIUM in DC in '72, hired me, 20 years old, to pick the STONES up at National Airport in my huge Pontiac Bonneville station wagon. I had THE STONES in my car, to drive to the Sheraton Carlton hotel on 16th st in DC. The next plane had the groupies, equipment, etc. I was fairly stoned, by then, and had trouble backing up the equipment truck onto the runway....almost too out a propeller! Whew! The funny thing is this: The '72 Tour was billed as The Stones Fairwell Tour!!! Uhh...I dont think so:-). What a memory....thx DAD!
I was pretty stoned when driving them. traffic in downtown dc was awful, and I was nervous. They largely ignored me except for Charlie Watts. I told him I was a drummer too, with Ricky and The Reefers. He loved the name! I also got seduced by the wife of a roadie manager.
This band worked their asses off confronting the cool pop culture of their time. They brought home the raw blues that gave birth to our rock and roll. I still appreciate this band!
Hell yeah man. Glad to hear say something about their blues influences. Very important piece of their work. Beggar's Banquet is definitely where they displayed it. Thats my favorite album. i know this ain't off it
They were the cool popular culture of their time. What rock n roll? It's no longer a cultural influence. No body owns rock n roll. They were just in it for the money like everybody else and they turned rock n roll into a corporate institution! Times have changed. The Rolling Stones are the Rock n Roll Pioneers for Big Business which is demented and sad thing.
This is such an awesome country song that I thought The Stones were covering a classic American tune. My respect for these guys grows as the years fly by. Got to see them in May '24 in Foxboro, Massachusetts and in Boston at Fenway in '05. Here's hoping I get to see them again...who knows?❤
Sitting in a bar last winter, this song comes on, and I'm like -- (1) "why are they playing C&W in a Massachusetts bar? and (2) damn, that's good. Then we hit the chorus and I realize it's something I first heard in JHS. They the Stones can master different genres!
I love ❤️ the collection of pics of Mick Jagger throughout the years it shows all of his musical and life experiences on and off the road a real short glimpse into the life and times of Mick Jagger 🎉🎉
That is a fair point made, if i may? could i add to this particular one, mick jagger/the rolling stones in general, looking at the pictures of the life lived, no other band or singer/musicians can come anywhere near to measuring up to their history , story or the real facts of what they done, phenomenal doesn't get near their earned description
Hey, John Lewis, I'm 59 yrs old and I remember in 1965/6 one of my sisters friends asking me if I were a Beatles or Stones fan. Hell, I was only 4/5 yrs old but I'd seen both on TV and just from the impression made on my barely formed brain, I said, "Stones." and have never regretted it. God Bless and take care. Oh, I did find my girl with Far Away Eyes! She's GREAT!
One of the best songs by the Stones that I listened to while serving our country in 1971 until 1975. You could always tell the beer drinker and the pot smokers apart. One side of the road had country music and the other one had rock for the tokers
I dedicate this to my stepmom she's rocking in heaven now, she showed me this song when I was young and I'm forever grateful to hear real music, love you Michelle
+Ana Led Zeppelin was extremely overrated with a singer who ripped off Janis Joplin, lyrics that were downright embarrassing, Jimmy Page's inability to move his fingers fast enough to play the notes that he wanted to cram in to the songs, etc. etc. I worshipped The Who & Led Zeppelin in high school until I realized that neither band was all that close to being one of the top ten or so musical acts ever.
cgarnet01 You're allowed to have your opinion, but come on now are you serious? Led Zeppelin is without a doubt one of the most overall talented bands of all time. John Paul Jones was a musical genius, John Bonham played the drums like no one else had ever done before, Robert Plant was lyrically gifted and sang with more heart and emotion than few before. Jimmy Page....Jimmy fucking Page....Jimmy Page has written more timeless, beautiful songs than almost anyone else and is without doubt one of the most skilled guitarists of all time. Led Zeppelin was the perfect combination of raw talent and musical training that created a musical revolution paving the way for countless bands following them.
***** Not really. Two albums of their golden period from '68-'72 were done without him (Beggars Banquet and 99% of Let It Bleed), while he doesn't really stand out on Exile On Main Street. You can really only say he contributed to the power of Sticky Fingers. Mick and Keith's amazing songs of the time were really about the peak of their writing and riff skills, not Taylor's soloing.
+steve conn They came back with "Exile" after I thought the well ran dry. " Sweet Virginia" has the same sound as this. I literally wore out the vinyl on " Exile on Main Street". I still have the replacement, which I consider a treasure.
+James Bond Exile was one of their four best, along with Beggar's Banquet, Let It Bleed and Sticky Fingers. But Some Girls and Tattoo You are top grade Stones as well, and Steel Wheels, Voodoo Lounge and Bridges to Babylon are absolutely worthwhile as well. So no, the well didn't dry up permanently, just for a few albums.
what are you an idiot....yes the Stones are a rock n roll band with blues influences...duh....but they also did many great country songs in which this is one of many making them my favorite country group of all time....cuz I pretty much hate country bands except the Stones
People don't give Mick enough credit for the Songwriting. His lyrics are much better than many Classic Rock bands who sing about Elves and stuff. Deep but Still Rock and Roll.
I agree that This is the best Stones song ever, and that does not diminish their so many other great songs. The story behind this can apply to so many people. Well written and Performed..Thanks
This was the Stones greatest period for my money. Certainly one of them. And they had so much influence on so many other groups. The "Country-Rock" style will endure far beyond our lifetimes. And this song will be one of the anthems.
50 years since they did this amazing song and album. And still rolling! Soon it will be 60 years since they started in 1963. Hats off to the greatest rock & roll band in the world 🙌🏼
Man, I love those vocal harmonies that are a little rough around the edges. So much attitude. The Stones (and The Band) really elevated those into an art form.
when you see video of this song ....you can see & feel the chemistry between mick & Keith & mick Taylor from those exile on main St & sticky fingers days of the early 70's....the best stones line up....hands down!
@@mauricecarlosjr7600 Drugs don't really expand talents, if anything they inhibit them. Certain drugs like acid, however, open up doors to parts of our minds that we otherwise would not dare to enter. I think the drugs just inspired these people to dare to do things differently, or to just not give a fuck. Either way the end result was a lot of really vibin' shit for a couple decades.
Bought my wife some Roses for Valentines day. Left them in car for a couple hours in 10 degree weather. they got frozen. I thawed them and gave them to her. Nice. They all died overnight. So I came to this song which I love and played it for her. All is good.
I’ve been their greatest fan since I was 2 in 1962. They are the soundtrack of my life! I cannot fathom life without the Stones period. Doom and Gloom. Blessings! See them in Pit A in Santa Clara in July woo hoo! 💋💋💋💋🔥🔥🔥♥️♥️♥️♥️
Finally got to see these guys in Chicago in 2019. My daughter bought us tickets for my bday. Im 43 and not a real mushy guy but I literally cried when they came out because it was just unreal to me that I was finally getting to see the Stones
I don't see how one could not notice if one is a fan of The rolling Stones and one of the better movies recent history (?) that's just my way of saying I'm a big fan of the stones and of The big Lebowski. what's really interesting is how they changed the arrangement and the song still works.
When you live in Louisville ,and they play this at Churchill Downs live .Kinda makes your hair stand up.Down the stretch they come !!!!!!Thank you fellas...
I stood outside the gate at Chuck Berry's property outside Wentzville on Buckner Rd in 86 with my buds and listened to Keith Richards , Clapton , Berry and I cant remember who else just jam. They were practicing for Chucks 60th B-day celebration at the Fox Theatre in St Louis the next night. That was so cool listening to those guys freestyle.
Did you have any money on the race??? How much did you win?? I love the track. It's best to go on sloppy rainy days. Anything can happen and frequently does.
James Parker It is totally the way round you imagine!! Mick Jagger & Keith's compositions are Masterpieces unique of the Pop Rock and roll Arty Blues of the inventory of their more than 500 hundred songs made anthological series of Hit parades . But more than that they are original fusions of the Ad Libs and Modern Troubadours lineages. So invencible songs !!🤗🤚🌻💙🎵🎶🎵🎶 💙💙💙💙 🌎🌍✨🌻🤗🤚
@@mtnmoonmama2396 this is more country than anything called "country" when Shania Twain first blasphemed country and turned it into pop, it's never been the same since.
I love this original and I also love Towne Van Zandt's version! I remember making bets on "Kentucky Derby days", having lived in Louisville, KY for 11 years.
"I'll be in my basement room with a needle and a spoon; and another girl to take my pain away Take me down little Suzy take me down, I know ya think yer the queen of the underground..."
