I absolutely loved Dead Island 2, the only thing i hate about it is the length. I think its way too short for a game thats been in development for so long

I think part of the reason why the game became so difficult for you later on is the fact that i noticed the level of the zombies were in red which means you are under leveled when fighting them the best way to fix that is consistently doing side quests after a story mission cause i was never under leveled once like that

I would honestly wait for it to go on sale but yeah it’s definitely worth it especially knowing they’re gonna add two more expansions coming soon.

I thought the combat is one of the most fun aspects of the game.

I load up the game every day for the opening alone it's one of the best opening cutscenes out there the way the plane from the first loading screen is shown off is extremely cool and clever in my opinion plus the music still gives me chills "please let me drown" coldest opening I've seen

I feel the game is fine the way it is ( ofc could use some tweaking ) such as making the zombies easier when playing solo. The zombies can be tanky if you're playing co-op where most likely you and another player or all 3 of you will be attacking the same zombie. It's fine at that point and makes sense but I feel they probably just forgot to turn that off for when you're solo and making the zombies drop within 2 or 3 hits if you have a upgraded weapon. The game was also never meant to be an open world but hey now and days we have to be more worried about if a game is releasing Finished lol. I can say at least this game felt done and didn't have a bug every 5 minutes unlike the other companies who put 2x the money and time into their games and still somehow managed to make it a 50% done game and 50% of crashes and bugs

Not much replayability there but it looked and played amazing, better than the first game, but I feel like it’s been forgotten about so quick :(, the details on the zombies where insane

I can prolly offer a bit of insight as to why i think some of the things are the way they are. I can imagine that the more varied the zombies, the less a game is able to batch - which requires more resource usage, the better the physics, the harder it is to have a lot more zombies on screen. The gore system probably makes each zombie way more resource heavy by itself as well. The sheer amount of environmental effects plus things like water ripple effects are also fairly taxing. Why it isn't open world I am not entirely sure though... like you can do instanced zones and cull ones not being used - so I'm kinda at a loss there, but its possible because of all the detail that packing it all into one massive zone might demand way too much to get a decent frame rate. This is all speculation, but generally speaking any game can find ways to chug your PC - even now you think 24g of vram is a lot, but a single 8k texture can eat up 200 mbs of vram, and each zombie could have up to maybe 16 textures a piece... Plus the world and all of the interactable objects.. Plus all the sprites...Plus your own character model... So, I think this is a victim of "look at all the cool stuff we can do, a little bit at a time"

Dead Island 1 was so damn good, i played it all the time with my buddies and absolutely was underrated! So many memories with that game

Honestly the game was fun it is simple and easy. a lot of games want to redo a franchise or try something new and fail, dead island said a-lot about what the game was gonna have and it in fact did have what they said it had. And personally it felt just fun felt like a game I would have played over and over again on ps3. If you want a feeling like that get this game

The graphics are spectacular on PS5 and what's more, it is superbly optimised. I don't think I encountered any bugs or crashes in over 100 hours, or very minor at best. Amazing

Overall , i really like this game. The story is BLAH & the repetitive attacks do get a bit boring. Graphics & physics are 10/10. Waiting for some DLC

I like the concept but the cars not being drivable really doesn't settle with me since the first was my altime favorite even though I've beat it so much it's still really good

Its all about the card set up and maintaining your weapon. I cant agreed with the combat complaints🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️ i was skeptical at first but after leveling and rearranging my card set up. The combat has become beautiful and made the game complete😌😌 at least in my eyes

I specifically remember Dead Island 1 not being a seamless open world either. It was divided into regions. Just pointing that out bc the comparison was made.

I just finished it. It was genuinely a fun game to play. The zombie killing mechanics and physics are top tier. The storyline is linear and simple enough to follow, and whacky and cliche enough to be entertained. The game isn't difficult if you take the time to loot and create modded weapons. Take your time when playing the game; immerse yourself in exploring areas, looting, doing side quests, and treasure hunting. It'll make your game a lot more worthwhile to play in my opinion. Cool Fact: I actually got this game right after coming back from my first trip to LA. What an odd tribute to one of my favourite getaways of the year! The resemblance was well done enough for a video game platform, much like GTA V. I really believe Venice was done very well.

This game is very fun. The game isn’t ground breaking but I loved it. Testing perks to make different builds just kept me wanting to play and unlock new perks

I still play the first dead island today and ripT. I wish they kept 2 like the first tbh. There is more of a gritty feeling in DI1 that I can experience and I like the skill tree over what DI2 shows, with cards and stuff. Maybe I'm just old but idk, if it ain't broke, don't fix it is all.

Definitely a worthy successor of the original and worth a try but my favorite argument from you was the $50 price tag I'm satisfied with my purchase and it gave me a really good nostalgic feeling with the difficulty and the difficulty of the game actually humbling me some of those missions I died 20 + x

Just finished this game, it was awesome! 🔥The combat, the different player styles and builds wasn’t complex to figure out, etc etc. I agree the story could be alittle better but if they make another game with every thing the same besides the story I’d play the minute it’s released

I recently got the platinum for this on PlayStation 5 and could feel myself losing enthusiasm to play it toward the endgame. The fact I have a semi infinite fury build made all zombies including the apex variants from crushers to the mutators a joke as enemies to fight against. I enjoyed it as it was my first Dead Island experience but it did get repetitive and lost all challenging aspects. Really hope the DLC takes the game into a better direction.

The first dead island wasn't open world. I dont see why every game has to be open world for people to enjoy it.

I was so excited for this game. I played the first Dead Island 3 times and loved it. Sparing the amazing graphics, I can’t believe there are so many steps in the wrong direction going into 2. 【Shades Finnish Pirates】I am of the same mind, former friend made me buy it and from a weird site which resulted on 5 attempts on my credit card. I still tried to play it, i rolled a character after character but find them all unlikeable and i only like the unarmed or knuckle dusters. The weapons still break too easily, the unarmed takes ages and they are sloppy with the animations still like if you do a tiger's paw style punch if your holding a knuckle duster it vanishes from your hand. I think i will uninstal, leave this at that what it was a rag doll simulator and unfortunately huge money sink for me too

Dead Island 1 was underrated. The problem was it was buggy on release which killed the immersion and led to mixed reviews. Ironically it was the same situation with the remaster. All of this has since been fixed. Perfect example of good game but bad software. They were fantastic games....eventually.

Such a great game even tho I prefer zombie games more like back 4 blood and left 4 dead but this one’s still pretty amazing to me

the open world and lack of cars was because of the short development time for this team(they were given around fourish years). They had to scrap other builds of the game.

Hello Sir! - DI1 was also not open world Sir. - DI2 combat is level based, Sir. Skull enemies requires you to grind more level.

Definitely more to it than just mashing X I found , timing and aiming as you do a heavy attack , aiming for different body parts . I found it really fun

I absolutely adored this game and beat it all the way through even challenges with a buddy, and I’m ADHD and never finish games cause I get bored. Yes, the replay-ability is absolutely none existent, even the most basic options like playing the game again with a higher difficulty is none existent. You beat it all, and that’s it, you can never replay the missions. It’s just walking around at that point. But the 20 hours of gameplay and story is awesome. It’s worth it, but they NEED a nightmare mode or something to replay harder difficulty, or at least a survival/hoard mode.

You can charge a heavy attack during the light attack animation allowing you to swing out a fast heavy. I do agree however that it would be cool if there where more combo’s available. Perhaps different combinations of attacks creating a combo attack that could be unique for each melee weapon.

Long story short: Yes & definitely better than the first. Worth the buy

Just bought and finished it this week. I loved dead island 1. Combat of DI2 is fun. It's so fun to melt through the zombies. My issue is there just aren't enough zombies to require tactical gameplay. According to some I picked the worst character (Amy) yet I still just melt everything in 1/2 hits. I don't need a 4D chess story but the missions were boring AF and just amounted to doing the same thing over and over in a different area. The character even made jokes about it. A big let down was the map size. I loved DI1's larger map style. I don't feel like I'm in a world in DI2 and it just doesn't make it feel dangerous. While playing DI2 I was always expecting I'd eventually be put in a big part of LA that is completely overrun and dangerous to be in, but it never happened. For me a DLC that puts you in a large part of LA that has hordes in and takes time to traverse would make the game great.

i hate how zombies respawn so fast,,i kill all in location and i go 10 meters of that place and return back to prewios place and zombies are back again,,some even just appear in place in front of me from nothing.

The melee attacks remind me of the attacks on ZombiU You could beat the game with just a bat

Feels like they haven't learned much from the first game in terms of "Zombie Tankiness". Hidden level mechanic for zombie resilience is feeling better in my opinion, because you see the degradation of their health on their bodies and no high number bullshit.

I think it was amazing the no cars pissed me off and the combat but the stry was unique I didn't mind it but I hated most of the characters are choices for characters I loved them they did rly good at making them there personalities were all rly funny and idk I like hoe they were all different

To be fair man the game is good but way to hard for the average gamer me and the mrs played this and it was a challnge to say the least! But the main problem for me is that its ooen world to an extent but sort of sandbox of different parts of the map and i feel taking away the driving felt like a bit of a downgrade!

I think the game is absolutely worth the money and it's exactly what I expected from the game, and dead island 1 isn't open world either. Prefer a shorter game but for that everything works well not like most of the other games that come out these days. I still have a lot of fun with it and am already looking forward to the story DLC

I got the game for free with my CPU, completely forgot i even had it. I played about one and a half hour before i got bored with it. I reached the "Party" house with the Sinclair guy. Melee + Damage sponges enemies just didn't do it for me.

I played thru it twice. But all i gotta say is besidea the story its great. The side characters are likeable imo and the weapons are great. Some of the slayers talk too much but the simple solution that i took was to not play as them at all.

OHH Man. The GORE and the graphics on this game is fucking GOOD! i prefer this one than dying lights open world. i like the small tight linear progression. If you're a zombie game fan. You wont be dissapointed. its fucking 100/10 for me!! and one of the few MOST optimized game released this year! HOPE they make a quick sequel!!

My biggest gripes with the game is that all the characters mostly play the same. They all share most of the skill cards and the few unique ones don’t make them unique enough for me personally. As for the combat I think the biggest issue I have with that is the usage of stamina. As opposed to the older games you don’t lose stamina from light attacks nor sprinting in Dead Island 2. It does completely change the feel of combat for example runners just seemed way more intimidating in the originals (because you couldn’t really outrun them) or fighting larger mobs actually was riskier because you had to manage stamina. I also don’t like the new block/counter mechanic… just makes the game too easy imo and way too many games have That unnecessarily implemented nowadays. Bossfights were also largely anticlimactic. The game has some good stuff going for it but I don’t feel like I got 70 bucks worth of a game.

Looking back with my time with the game, it was... okay. The classes needed more distinction from one another besides just differing base states, and I wish we had full skill trees instead of the card system we do have. The physics and gore didn't impresse me honestly. Dying Light 1 is the gold standard for realistic gore in a zombie game imo, and compared to this game, DI2 has way floatier physics and less impact when a hit connects. Weaker sounds, less realistic reactions from zombies when you hit them, and less of an emphasis on targeting different body parts to disable different aspects of a zombie (slide kicking to break their legs so they can't stand, breaking or severing their arms so they can't grab and bite you, breaking their skull with a blunt weapon to stun them, etc). My biggest gripe however is how forgiving it is. When you die you respawn a few paces away from where you died, with everything still either killed or damaged from before you died, which means you can literally throw yourself at a challenge and you will always win no matter what, which completely kills any sort of difficulty the game tries to have since dying literally has 0 consequences for the player. There's really no incentive to really learn the game and "git gud" at it because you never get punished for bad play. But it's not all bad. I do love the graphics and vibrant color choices, and I can appreciate the over the top sense of humor even if it didn't make me laugh all that much. I really grew to like the player characters too, even Bruno who I'll admit I judged too quickly by just his looks. And I LOVED the emphasis on using elements in both combat scenarios and environmental puzzles to gain access to goodies off the beaten path. All in all? Im happy with what we got, Im glad that this game was able to escape development hell and still manage to be a solid, decent product rather than a dissapointing awful dumpster fire like most dev hell games end up being. And Im proud of the dev team for being able to stick the landing and give us a good game that many can enjoy, even if I myself don't.

Just play co-op so that you can be in lobby’s with other players and help each other fight the zombies

Just recently bought it and regardless of what the kid said I would've been the same as him and bought it in the early days but I wasn't on PS5 back then. I am a big fan of Techlands Dead Island 1 and Riptide aswell as the first Dying Light game so anything to do with Dead Island 2 I would've been interested in from the rip like I was even though this is a Deepsilver/Dambuster Studio work. Now I've bought the game and completed the story mode? Well I agree on the graphics and the gore being the redeeming (if you could call it that) features of the game. The map system is terrible imo why we couldn't have a full open world map is beyond me, the amount of zombies that are actually in the game is disappointing I thought I mean take Venice Beach for example you almost have to actively search for contact in order to have any fun. Side missions there is not as many as I would've liked to keep me engaged and I agree the story and characters are shit. I got bored very quickly after completing the game too. The scenery and the graphics are good and the combat believe it or not I dont mind I like all that melee combat stuff although I agree it would be better if it had more finishing moves, more normal combat moves and maybe some special finishers or special moves, I mean your rage ability you could be classed a little like that I suppose but yeah I agree better combat although I can still enjoy it. All in all im disappointed with the game, my biggest disappointments are with the amounts of zombies and its shit story and the fact that there aint enough to really keep me engaged and entertained fully.

I remember the first zombie game that i play is dead island 1, and not try the riptide yet, after that i try dying light 1 and 2 really love the gameplay and the parkour aspect, even at first DL2 kind of many bugs and crap, after 10 years Dead island 2 come out, such a nostalgic experience, btw DI and DL like by many people because of duplication glitch that have in them😂

Think ima wait until it’s on sale & when they drop more dlc to give more story length.. everybody is complaining about the story being short

if you liked the first two dead island games then you’ll like this the story is average at best but the combat is fun don’t expect a revamp just dead island 1 and riptide w upgraded graphics and new stuff to do

After playing to completion, got to say it's a solid game. Only disappointment like others have said is the length of the story. Story itself wasn't too bad and only the ending was cliche. The combat was okay. Didn't have the problem of super zombies like him but that's because I did side quest and leveled with story as I went. Each mission has a level recommendation; you can tell from the red skulls above most of the zombies in this video he was under leveled. The NPCs weren't boring to me either and it makes since they wouldn't help in a zombie apocalypse when your immune and can do it yourself. You aren't even trying to hide it in game. I'm gonna take a stretch and say he probably didn't loot most areas because some of areas are locked out for side quest. You can also find many different cards throughout the world which can greatly change combat.

Honestly i could deal with all the shitty things, if there were at least enough zombies and bigger maps... Especially in multiplayer you just kill them so quick that there is nearly nothing to do and the game feels even more empty than it already does due to the tiny map. I hope some modders come around like in the first game and Riptime and create another "More Zombies" mod and another mod that stitches the separate maps together.

Honestly they really should add New Game Plus to make up for the rather short story. I really hope it comes soon so I can jump back in

The only thing I missed from the original was the driving. As for the difficulty, I feel like younger gamers haven't experienced games with a set difficulty. For ammo and the guns, I felt there was a massive improvement over the original, they have actual effect, but ammo is scarce (like it'd be in an actual fucking zombie apocalypse) I do wish they'd included the ability to switch the weapon swing to the joystick like the original and had human enemies, cause in a zompacalypse there's always assholes. And for combos, you're supposed to be an everyday person fighting their way through Hell-A, not some master of every weapon you pick up. I do feel like it could've been longer, like the original, but that's me. Gotta remember the gaming crowd is used to ten minute campaigns that they never play and solely focus on online play now. So in today's gaming world, it gets an 8/10 from me.

About open world. The game was cut down to few parts of the map because of the unreal engine 4 being not that good for open world games in optimisation. While pc had alright results, consoles were dying of it.

DL2 is a great nostalgia trip for DL1 lovers, however as a zombie game and a sequel to DL1 it is lacking to say the least. I honestly don't feel like its worthy to be called a sequel it does not improve enough from the first game aside from gore and graphics to be classified as such to me.

For me, the melee combat isn't impactful enough. It just isn't satisfying. Like you said, you just hit the same button over and over, kick sometimes. Also, I picking up all the tape, scrap metal and blades, etc....got lame quick.

In my honest opinion, no. It’s not worth buying or playing. Maybe if it was on sale for $20, sure. But for full price? There’s not way and hell anyone in their right mind would buy this game for $70. It’s absolutely boring once you reach max level and do everything the game has to offer. Fighting the zombies, the gore physics, and everything that’s good about it becomes so boring. Try it, but just keep what I said in mind lol

I honestly just hate the setting. I don’t remember anyone praising this aspect of dead island 1, but the fictional island is so well developed and diverse, I always wished they had done more with it. In dead island 2 I wanted to see another island with its own unique culture and environment rather than fucking LA which was already done extremely well in many other games I think simple combat and story still could have worked in a more interesting place
