With Dead Island 2 releasing today on steam, I thought it would be fun to take on the weirdly lost and forgotten sequel to Dead Island 1 with Dead Island Riptide! This might be a continuation, expansion, or whatever you want to call it but, without a doubt, it is 100% a sequel. I will be attempting to get every single Achievement/Trophy in this zombie infested game to get the inevitable 100%/Platinum Trophy! I personally think this game was worse than the original but not by a huge margin but just enough...

Yeah I mean it essentially is a large DLC. It may have been released separately. But the price point, the fact that you can import your character, it was effectively a standalone DLC. I love the game. It brought more of what I loved about the first game!

Riptide was the reason Techland left Deep silver to make Dying light. They wanted to make Riptide more grim and horror-esk similar to the tone that Dead Island set, but Deep Silver wanted to make it less serious [similar to how dead island 2 ended up] and due to budget cuts ,preassure and time constraints instead of a expansion we got a standalone game.

Also the versions you tried are slighlty more janky than the originals. The originals had unique weapon textures and didnt have items ported from dying light. Although the original dead island and dead island riptide are delisted,you can still get them through key resellers which in my opinion are the ideal version to get less jankiness.

The only thing I remember when I briefly played this game with my friends having fun with modded weapons and getting to lvl70 by spam giving canned food. Unfortunately I lost that lvl70 save when I got my ps5.

There is an exploit you can do to duplicate your weapons and items and sell for fast XP! So, you could technically get your level 70 character back fast!

Dead Island Riptide by my experience is just a sandbox at this point. It’s a modded/hacked to oblivion sandbox. Not only are the mechanics janky as hell, but the requirements for the platinum makes it feel more like a damn Minecraft playthrough rather than an engaging experience. Elden Ring and God of War 2018 for example had achievements that ACTUALLY felt engaging. They were fun, challenging, SUPER incredible and rewarding. But for some reason I can’t help but think about Dead Island 1 and Riptide without thinking about all the hacked weapons that get dropped to me every single time I make a new character. Now can I turn my game offline? Yes. But thats not the point. It’s almost impossible to play the game legitimately at this point because everyone always trolls. They spawn into my world, and blow me up with M72s 3 billion times. It feels more like a shitty Garrys Mod Dark RP server than a fucking zombie game. Now this isn’t to say multiplayer sucks, but nowadays it’s almost impossible to find people that just GENUINELY want to play the game, because the game sucks donkey balls. NOBODY wants to play the game as it was intended. I mean why would you? The story sucks ass. The mechanics are fucking terrible. The game is LITERALLY BEGGING you to hack it. Because if you don’t, you’re going to have the biggest snoozefest of your life. The game almost forces you to play it like a Garrys Mod game mode. At least when you hack it you can add hacks that don’t ALL one shot. You can add fun hacks that just make the zombies fly, or throw up infinitely stun locking them, or give yourself flaming swords, like there’s just no point to play the game as intended anymore. If you want to play legitimately, just play dying light. Is it FUN though? Absolutely. With the bois and with hacks, the game is fun. Outside of that. I just can’t imagine sitting down and having a blast with my electrified fire paddle, and sprint mechanics that make you feel as though you’re running on blocks of ice. Don’t believe me? Try sprinting, coming to an abrupt stop, and start sprinting again. Or drive at full speed, hit a little tiny curb to stop, and then start driving again. It feels like you’re on one big block of ice the ENTIRE game

I think it's a plugin or tool, if I recall correctly. I think it was mentioned in another video that... I honestly could not point you to because I have zero recollection of which. I don't think it's done in post editing though, I think it's there on the livestream and all.

In some ways, this games is kinda better than the original, in terms of gameplay and quality of life improvements, but the scenarios in dead island 1 are far better than riptide, its not a bad game, but its 50 50 with the original, both are good games and its has that old techland goofyness

Hi Yoma97 I am playing Riptide in my PS4 with Purina and there is a mission named ‘History Lesson’ and then there is a part where I need to ‘find notes’ for dr Kessler in a sewer but for some reason they are not appearing. Did you have the same problem, if so, do you know how I can make these notes to appear? I want to finish this game but I believe you hate it as much as I do 😂

Edit: i never experienced any ofb these weird glitches on console for Riptide. Some visual issues like a zombie not being visible in a cutscene but thats it. Looks like the PC version sucked ass even more. Bro riptide hands down is way batter than dead Island 2 its ridiculous, I got to the movie lot and just stopped playing. It felt like I was *required* to go back to earlier areas and do side quests just to be strong enough to beat the horde when you open the doors. When your gameplay loop ends up being me standing on a ledge waiting 5 minutes for my health Regen over and over you fucked up your gameplay loop. I shouldn't *have* to do side quests just to be able to handle a horde of 9 zombies without getting bent over. Idk, just seemed unnecessarily slow and clunky to maneuver at all and no dodge mechanic in the beginning (idk about later) so getting hit at all by a horde basically means youre fucked.

Dead island 2 was so easy, the amount of environmental water/gas/caustic laying around is so generous to help you. After playing all three games religiously, dead island 2 is a better polished game. The old games were mid on release but I still loved them all. I think u got ur nostalgia goggles on for saying riptide is hands down better. It was bad and extremely bugged. I still love it tho lol. I got my nostalgia glasses on too

@@ryanbromm207 I literally never experienced 80% of these bugs that he did. It was visual problems during cutscenes at most and the controls were responsive. Maybe cuz I grew up on cartridge games and arcades and am used to super clunky controls but the game was good to me, fun melee combat that wasn't overly challenging. to answer your point about the environmental stuff. Take for example the movie lot where I stopped playing. When you open the door on the movie set you can trip the water FX. Well that works, only if you can get close enough to electrify the water with your weapon (unless I'm missing some environmental thing to permanently electrify the water). Every time I would do it before they were close it would stop being electrified before they touched it and the biggest enemy has an immunity to electricity. So I'm having to be right in front of the zombie to hit the water and I get pummeled or stun locked/knocked to the ground and because theres no dodge mechanic when I stand up i have to turn around and run which isnt fast enough and i get hit again. The other FX button just wouldn't even let me press it. It was just grayed out. So idk what I'm missing but it's the first game I've gotten mad enough to want to break a controller in over 5 years.

Ironically enough dead island riptide was actually a dlc but became a standalone game while dead islands janky mechanics and funny moments made dead island iconic, i will nitpick about the version you are playing definitive edition is terrible the firearms use dying lights models the ps3 and Xbox 360 including the old steam versions are better than definitive edition... if you like the new looks and style that's fine but honestly playing the game modded is better than playing legit, riptide's story although pointless everyone just plays the game for modded weapons and duplicating that is all everyone does, i will also say one thing everyone hates riptide but we keep playing it because we love its bs

Riptide is definitely better than the og. More skills, weapons, mods, community tasks, and more meaningful side quests. As crazy as it sounds I genuinely prefer the og and riptide over dead island two lol.

I hate watching videos like this. If you’re just going to shit all over a game then don’t play it! Most people are going to click these videos because it’s a game they like. So when you’re being miserable and complaining the whole time it gets annoying and is really hard to watch.

I played the game for the first time to experience it and this was my experience 😆 The game isn't pretty, you want me to lie and praise the game that I played fully and think is hot dog water? @@Yoma97 I mean yes, your subscribers are probably watching the video because they want to watch you. But anyone else is watching it because they enjoy the game and want to see content on it. But it ends up leaving a sour taste in their mouths. You don’t have to praise it, but being that miserable the entire time is just not enjoyable.
