Reason why I really like Hitomi is that she's just a very wholesome girl. Now I prefer women more than girls, but Hitomi has a personality that's just really adorable. I still prefer Christie over her.
@@Hillthugsta from what I rember she is one of the lesser poular characters in Japan, that's why she had less costume variety in DOA6. But imo, her gameplay, design and personality are pretty good, especially in her interactions with Tina in DOA5.
Tina is one of the most iconic/standout characters in the DOA series. It's just that lately the series is straying away from its' inception since Itagaki left it. Anime is actually no more popular in Japan than anywhere else in the world.
They dont belong in garbage tier.... Putting them in the garbage acknowledges they exists. They deserve to be deleted from the game. Marie Rose especially.
Have to Disagree with the assessment of Lisa. She’s great friends with Tina, which explains the Luchador bit. She’s a great career woman, and has the best most friendly personality out there. She’s definitely Wifu material. Good at least. Christy, is also a favorite of mine. But seemingly constantly gets shafted in the story, not winning one fight. Plus there’s also the chance she’d kill me so....
I like Lisa as well but I get what he's saying regarding her being unfocused. The story doesn't attempt to tie her actions together at all and it comes off as the team not really knowing what they want to do with the character. I would put her in 'Don't care' because the way she's written hasn't given us a reason TO care (yet).

There's a lot of Flanderization in KOF. In the case of Mai though, nah, she's not problematic. Her and Andy are childhood friends. He does care about her a lot, but almost sort of like sister, which makes him nervous. He's also the kind of guy who's extremely focused on his training.
Sorry Snake. Hitomi is great. But I can't deny myself here. Kasumi is my number one. Sure resentment for her heartless family is understandable. (Most fanfics I read about DOA does have Kasumi show her own resentment which made her more interesting) Although I like to think she has patience of a saint and maybe she hides the resentment knowing it wouldn't solve much. Plus she has a lot to do. (She is the protagonist here) I'd personally like to be with her more since I just want to hug her damn it. And yeah people say Ayane is sympathetic and yeah, she had her own fair share of unfair prejudice. But looking at this, Ayane is now considered the clans best, while Kasumi is the black sheep just because she wants to avenge her Mom and Brother. I can relate to her a whole lot more than Ayane. It sucks having old men who value more outdated outlooks and be punished for not following the rules exactly despite how miniscule it is on hindsight. It ain't as big as her, but I can only imagine how aggravating it must be to be punished by your own family damn it. You're damn right, the Mugen Tenshin needs to fall. Kasumi also needs a much better new family to be a part of. I think we won't complain her and Hitomi can make nice step sisters.
Your first mistake was watching KoF Destiny, clearly. Also if you did ever get to know about Kula, chances are she would downgrade from Don't Care to TRASH at a moment's notice.
Think of it this way though. Without his ummm, actions we wouldn't have Ayane right? Plus him attacking the village and crippling Hayate kicked off the initial storyline to begin with. Creepy rapist martial artist FTW right?
Kula is actually a really cool character, she didn't get much in a way of story in DOA6 and what she got was pretty silly, but she has some of the coolest looking moves in the game. She has a way bigger role in KOF games. She is absurdly powerful and can generate ice blasts powerful enough to turn space stations into rubble. Her story is that she is a genetically modified human weapon created to hunt down and destroy traitors of NESTS (organization she was originally working for) long story short, after many events she ended up befriending her main target that goes by the name of K', teaming up with him and destroying the NESTS in the end. Her crazy power level is probably what peaked Nico's interest, or more specifically the fact that you can achieve such a thing with genetic modifications. In KOF I would put her in S tier as far as characters go, but yeah, in DOA she doesn't really have any character development. Still I think she deserves to be in "good" tier just because of her cool moves and the outfit. With Mai you are completely right. She has no role in KOF lore other than being crazy in love with Andy and is generally a pretty annoying character. She is sort of a jobber and loses almost every fight she gets herself into, despite being the most popular SNK's female character. She only exists to look good on the cover, other than that there is nothing to her, so you rated her perfectly :D
Eh, if some countries didn’t ban Dimensions Marie would probably never exist. She was created to look like she does at 18 to spite those European countries that banned the game; I think she even comes from one of those countries specifically.

Having Helena at top tier is a BASED move... in my take, she's best girl. But I agree with everything you said about her (though it took me a while to like her DOA6 outfit because it felt like it doesn't present much design wise)

As someone who knows a bit more about KOF lore, Andy and Mai do love each other, but Mai is obsessed with marrying him. In XIV, they aren't married but are living together.
Tina was like my first waifu, I still like her but I like Hitomi the most now. Honoka is also up there, Mila also grew on me, Lisa is up there too. I do like Marie as a character and her moveset etc, but she do be kinda jailbait, but she is kinda a waifu

Finally someone mentioning how young marie and honoka are. They look 15-16. Anyone who finds remotely attractive raises an eyebrow for me, especially marie. They dont look anywhere over 17 at max and even that's stretching it. I am aware that some native Asian women can be petite but they will most likely look like kokoro or ling xiaoyu. They wont have a little girl face. Plus honoka is literally wearing a school girl outfit. There are way more attractive DOA girls then jailbait honkerka and average maid loli school girl

I thought Mai being as popular as she was and acting sort of like the main or mascot girl for SNK would’ve been integral to the main plot or have an interesting backstory or side story of her own to tell. Unless I’m wrong, she just wants a guy? The reason she’s there is because he is. Not the most compelling narrative or motivation. Not exactly terrible but I kind of expected a bit more from someone of her reputation. I mean Tifa has a big fan base and she’s actually kind of important.

When I first saw this title list, I thought it is going to be a tier list based on sexiness, kind of mislead. The story part is quite accurate. For example I also found Naotora annoying, Alfa 152 broken, Christie is less now, bc stopped flirting with Rig, poor Phase 4 is a mass product. Lisa almost got killed in the lab, no wonder she broke with mist. My top 10 based on sexiness looked like this, including venus: 1. Honoka 2. Sayuri 3. Mai Shiranui 4. Rachel 5. Luna 6. Helena 7. Lisa 8. Christie 9. Fiona 10. Kasumi. On a serious note Nagisa would be an interesting char for fighting.
It isn't "anime" influence. It's just Japanese. Have you ever even been to Japan? There's so many 90-110lbs girls who're under 5 feet and talk just like Marie Rose. They're literally everywhere and represent almost the entire female population from 18 to 23ish. Also, it's common for people to stay in highschool until they're 19 in Japan. I taught high school for 8 years in Japan and the amount of students I had that were over 18 was quite a lot (although I taught at a pretty hardcore school). I literally married a Japanese girl who's probably 1 to 1 replica (build-wise) as Marie Rose. Very common in Japan. The uncommon builds are ones like Kasumi or Ayane and had those fantastic proportions due to itagaki's personal taste in literal goddesses. I'd argue that Itagaki's departure allowed for more varied characters. One thing I hated playing DOA since 2 Hardcore, was that all the girls were the same character with color swaps and different hair. It was cool when they began messing around with proportions of characters. The male characters had so much cool variety, Bass, Zack, Ein, etc.. Women were all the same.. Tina and Helena slightly bigger breasts and heavier, but fairly indistinguishable. DOA uses weight like VF does, but unlike VF sorta shied away from playing with those elements aside from the male characters. I hated how tall Tamaki was, but in retrospect, I appreciated it. Be thankful for Marie Rose, because she actually adds so much to the profile of DOA, which already has soooo many epic/iconic characters. Just makes DOA as an IP even more alluring and have higher potential for the future.

Kula is an airhead. She is a clone who is the antithesis of K', as evidenced in her ice powers contrasting K's fire. They eventually become friends, but Kula is dumb enough to not like other fire users like Kyo, Iori or Ash cause she hates fire. MK-level inconsistency.
You should do a tier list of female characters in Tekken next. Who doesn't love Hitomi? A cheerful personality and one of the easiest characters in DOA. Unfortunately below Kasumi and Ayane on my tier list.
actually, there is a gender bent version of Mai Shiranui from a game called Lost Saga. no idea what the game is, but Mai is treated as a job class instead of a character of her own. so yeah, dude Mai is also called Mai Shiranui

@@The4thSnake I think what kicked off the Julia problem is that they clearly took inspiration from Lara Croft starting with Tekken 4. Her 2P costume pretty much spells this out. Then with the negative reception to that game they bought back much of the cast and tried to throwback many of their costumes. However, they couldn't just completely drop her story thread started with 4 so... yeah. I don't know how you feel about collaborations and discussions but I wouldn't mind going over this stuff with you if you're interested. Tekken and fighting game stories in general being so needlessly garbage has been a sore point for me and I like your dissections and analysis.

DOA has been trash ever since the end of 5 ngl. I rate momiji higher than kasumi and ayane, but that's only because one is a dull protag trope and the other is a bitch who only respects people stronger than or equal to her. As for the Mai thing? It's a running joke really. When she was first designed it was a novel new idea for the woman to be the assertive "marry me" one instead of the guy. It's not aged that well, but her design at least is still a not practical ninja at all classic

I agree, Hitomi Best girl, the first game i played was Doa 5 and since she was the character one learns to play in the tutorial, i really like her from the very beggining. Everyone has different opinions and is understandable, I bet you would put Kula from Kof in the same spot of Honoka and Marie Rose if you knew about their backstory, because despite she is a relevant character in the NEST arc , (in shortest way possible to explain) she is just a very childish girl with ice powers that doesn´t care about their bosses and instead help the protagonists. I personally like Honoka due to her moveset being an amalgamation of other characters( and i always like that type of characters that have that style like Shang tsung and Seth) but i just hate Marie Rose and is true that story focus way too much on both characters.

This guy is bashing the female characters that are anime inspired in the series for being too anime like as if that makes those characters dumb in comparison to the others. It's all bullshit. There is not a single smart character in this series, and they are all equally stupid character-wise. I'm yet to see a fighter game with an intelligent story, or smart characters.
