The guys who loaded the combine were first class. They knew what they were doing, and gave you advice on how to tie it down, and let you know the condition of the combine so you wouldn't have any unexpected surprises. Great when you get to work with good people.

Steve... I literally geeked out this morning when I saw a "sucker truck" on a flatbed this morning (3-24-24) leaving Wisconsin on our way to Pigeon Forge, TN, and the tractor said "Wiedmeyer Express"!

I'm betting the leaking boost and intercooler on the intake manifold was causing most of the rolling coal in the videos. A cold cylinder will blow black.

a boost leak will cause it in general. Fuel of x being put in is expected for expected air of y but you are getting z air which is less so more excess fuel for the air == coal .

@@arbiter1 also lower combustion temperatures as it can't burn the fuel properly due to low cylinder temp until it dries out. The leak couldn't have been very bad as it wasn't discovered until recently.

@@haroldbenton979unburned fuel will be grey-whiteish. 3406B smokes black, especially when the fuel screws are in the ashtray.

When they first went up to 75 mph in New Mexico, just west of town I got a ticket for 78 in a 75. I hired an attorney and beat the ticket but the attorney was $400. I hauled an airplane one time, a prime mover from an old F unit, a wooden boxcar from California to Utah, a couple tank engines, they went up to Wisconsin somewhere. That was the good thing about step deck, it was always something new.

Deadhead? Try Bobtail from Altoona, PA. to Dallas, TX. 1325 miles! That's my second favorite story! My favorite story: Tempe, AZ to Boston,MA. One microchip! Loaded in a Packaging envelope stuck to the inside trailer wall. 2650 miles! I believed what I asked the shipper was going to get me fired from my company. The question was, "Have you ever heard of a company named UPS?" Now, I did get paid for both and would do the microchip again in a second. The Bobtail is a different story. I felt every single bump on the road for 2 days! I lost a couple of CDs. Apparently, something raddled loose in the player and scratched them. Back story on that run. I drove for a mega carrier. My truck broke down in Altoona. Repair ETA was a week. The international dealership had one of our trucks repaired and ready to go. It's former driver was already gone and was issued another truck. His old truck, the one that was ready, had been "Sold". They (my company) just needed to have it delivered to our terminal in Dallas. Something was wrong with the 5th wheel, and my company decided they could replace the entire assembly cheaper than the dealership. Thus, I couldn't even pull an Empty the 1325 miles. My third favorite story: picking up brand new trailers (somewhere in AK) and delivering the trailer to Fort Payne Alabama, pick up loaded trailer there, split it off in West Memphis. Pick up another new one and repeat......for a WEEK! very nice paycheck that week! I could the pick-up in about 30 mintues, the drop and hook in 15, the split in under 5 minutes. This was the era before the 30 mintue break. Rocking and rolling for a Week! ......... the irony, I'm retired now and moved from Nashville, TN to Fort Payne, AL.

Thank you for showing a lot of the details of loading and securing and tying down the loads. I find the millwright end of what you do just about as fascinating as the driving. Well, I have say I like the road better, but the loads are a large part of the interest. And that Caterpillar is set up so sweet running, it's actually a joy to the ear. Thanks for letting us tag along.

Hey Steve. Sorry to hear youre sick again, but with that work you done its maybe natural. Different weather condicions, heated cabin with dry air, and cold moisture air outside. You should do like we do in Norway, and drink fishoil in the winter time. 😇 Not many people like it, but I love it!

I hauled cars for 35 years in and out of the cab in all kinds of weather and to keep from getting the sniffles I took 1000mg of vitamin C every day. It worked for me.

Albuquerque is a beautiful site to see about 3:30 in the morning, especially when you been driving in the desert all night. Not much traffic, no lights, just stars, Art Bell on the radio and you just pop up over the hill and those lights. It felt like I finally got somewhere. I use to drive it every sept. going home on leave from Camp Pendleton, Ca. to Ind. back in the late 80's early 90's, loved it!!!

Needs extensions on side of trailer for front wheels.I remember helping to load a combine when they had to remove the front wheels and put the front axles on blocks.It was a newer combine than the one you're hauling. It was a New Holland TR96 that was sold at an auction to someone up north. I remember when they delivered a similar combine we had to put front tires back on. The driver that delivered it had to come a special route due the size of the combine.

This was filmed before that, back in January/February when there was a big snowstorm in the Western US and he was delivering snow plows in UT, CO WY and lastly in NM. This is the return trip from that back to WI. The after cooler situation is more recent, within the last week or so. His live streams have that footage where he was _supposed_ to work on it but it turned into a big Q&A, as he stated in his recent vid going over the service, the leaking coolant, the after cooler gasket failure and the need for a new after cooler.

Considering how old it is, without all the electric garbage, it's worth it just in the lack of downtime compared to newer units being locked out to farmers to work on. Screw JD and their fight against Right To Repair.

Steve did you flip down hopper extension that's about a foot high, supposed to be down for transport, they left them up. Did you check yellow top on cab it opens like a hood , seen drivers lose those cab tops not been locked. A driver ask me for a farm tractor cab top that he lost on highway. Did you lock stairs flat up. We have 8820 same combine but much wider

I use to could do that, but now I'm too old and fat to get around like that. Besides I would have to have stairs just to get into the truck. I have to use a cane to get around. Wish I could still be on the road, I miss it roo much...

Hauled a 14x70 mobile home through alb in afternoon cerfew got so crazy i couldnt get off a cop passed me looked up at me shook his head and kept going, i guess he figured if your that crazy just go ha ha that was crazy took yhat trailer up 5o the auction up on w central on west mesa do not recomend doing that! If you tie your cargo down from front to center and back to center cross chaining the piece of equipment THE LOAD cannot travel any further than the chain slack, more efficient and a lot safer. Check out how railroad personnel tie down equipment on railcars. NOT A HATE COMMENT, just a constructive suggestion, remember it could be someone you know traveling in the opposite direction
