Deadliest Roads | Cameroon | Free Documentary 

What our documentary focuses on: Life on the road outside the big cities. No public transport exists outside the bigger cities. The so-called communal aka clandestine taxis fill the gap. Any car in any condition will do. As long as it drives 70-80% of the time. Oh, and although no one seems bothered, some taxi drivers have no DL which, as Bugs Bunny would say: forget about it. (you know, in that Bugs Bunny voice of his) Passenger Pile In: There’s a certain puzzle system or pyramid system as far as seating for the passengers goes. The lightest sit on top of the heavier ones. Claustrophobic passengers prefer the scenic seats on the roof. From Lolosorf to Ebolowa: NGOs travel the route regularly to help the pygmies. Normally, they have a nice new air conditioned SUV 4-wheel drive but that's in the shop, so a clandestine (i.e. illegal) taxi it is. 700 km in ‘a rent a wreck’ category vehicle. Wheels can come off at any time. The roads are crap and this status quo has seriously paralyzed the economy on all levels. Projects, plans to improve the road infrastructure abound but is anything being done? We’d have to revisit to find out. If a truck breaks down, they're gently* looted until the company sends help to save what's left of the load. But I have to say, the looters are grateful and use everything. (*by that I mean, the people don't just attack and strip it, they take what they need in a friendly manner. Kind of like a gift provided by the savvy jungle) Part of the journey is on foot. You have to be prepared to push the cars. Simply because the mud is thigh high. Even Four wheelers have trouble. Motorcyclists speeding along a long forgotten road that hasn't been serviced for years and only works for bikes because they’re not wide enough for cars. A local fairy tale says god created the earth, the elements, rivers, forests, nature first - as living beings - to be feared and respected. Only the pygmies seem to remember that tale. In this Equatorial part of Africa. The Palm oil industry has moved these tribes out. Displaced them. A nomadic people. Their traditions have been taken from them. A village somewhere in Cameroon: There’s no electricity. The pylons erected but not connected. And because no teachers want to come, the children do without schooling. The youth ask only one thing of the government: provide the infrastructure. Then we can better our situation. All is not hopeless in this beautiful country. There is a high level of religious freedom and diversity. The national football (soccer) team has been one of the most successful in Africa, winning 5 African Cup of Nations titles and a gold medal at the 2000 Olympics. That boosts confidence. There's much much more of culture, literature, that is wonderful and worth discovering. All we can do is recommend traveling there and other places if you can. Not everyone can actually travel for whatever reasons - that's why we have documentaries. And books. Reading fiction or nonfiction by local authors gives so much more insight in a country. I'm going to be very honest I was on my way to gmc dealership to buy a 20,000$ dollar truck but after watching this I went to the nearest used car auto sales and instead bought myself a 3,000$ pick up.. be grateful for the smallest things... life is great...peace and love

Lol..., you just got to love the sarcasm, wittiness and humor in this particular narrator .when he says , "the car is not only a picturesque wreck but also a coffin on wheels". Much love for these interesting yet hilarious African based documentaries. Keep them coming online. I'm a Kenyan and proud of Africa, its' beautiful people and vast natural resources. Eventually we will get there. Africa is rising slowly but surely. We are very blessed despite our few shortcomings

I am a nurse in the US and have met many people from Cameroon, who are working in the medical field with me. Very kind and wonderful people. I love learning about their culture and country. I will have to tell them about the video I just saw and see what they tell me. I wonder if they have seen this or dealt with it. God bless these folks who are living in difficult times.

I’m sitting in my car getting lunch looking around and I am just really humbled and grateful for the life I have. I wish we could all live more equal. Its sad that people have to live in worse conditions. They’re crammed in that van and the lady in front of me in line is driving a range rover with her dog on her lap. It really just made me appreciate what I have in life.

This makes me appreciate where Kenya 🇰🇪 is in terms of infrastructure...we might not be there yet but am thankful. For our siblings in Cameroon, fight for your dreams and what you deserve.

So many people tend to complain about small things, but watching amazing documentaries like this just makes you realise how lucky we really are!

When he said the local farmers would help the drivers get their vehicles through the mud for a fee and then suddenly find the needed stones to do so behind some shrubs, seemingly well prepared in advanced I thought I'd lose it! Brilliant.

The more I watch these documentary, the more thankful I am with the modern roads and infrastructure we often complain about and taken for granted.

I am from Kenya and seeing this documentaries has made me appreciate our Kenyans roads.we don't have good roads but.......we have them.i will never complain again.

My heart bleeds for Cameroon. It has had one president for 38years and yet the value is the same......drained of its resources and life to enrich corrupt politicians and France. It’s a shame. Paul Biya must go. The guy is 87years old, what else can he deliver? None!

As a Cameroonian living in the urban part of the country, there are a lot of lessons I learnt in this documentary about my motherland, the first and most important lesson, I should be grateful with what I have. And I will like to conclude by saying the young boys at 22:34 crack stones to pay their school fees, if you were more opportune and never did that, show some empathy not sympathy. Their resilience will carry them through.

I had a neighbour in Finland who bought those old Toyotas and sent them to Africa on a ship. Don't remember which country he was from. Took me a moment to realize it, but those old bangers worth a few hundred euros in Finland are worth so much more over there that it even offsets the freight. It's because the cars can take a beating and can be repaired by almost anyone.

Absolutely incredible! I would have never thought such vehicles & driving conditions still exist. I used to live in Cambodia and I thought I had seen the worst. Far from it, in fact. Considering the means available to them, those clandos are working miracles.

This documentary is incredible it teaches that life ain't easy and u must work hard to survive and also teaches that people are really struggling to make ends meet,it gives me the courage to work even more harder.

this documentary exists in French speaking. and the narrator in english speaking have just translated the doc with the same words likes french Narrator in this documentary. I'm a Cameroonian. And i jsut want to tell you cameroon have good cities/town and better roads : Yaoundé (political Capital); Douala (Economic capital and first city), Garoua (cultural city), Bafoussam (cultural city), Buea and othres citues with the better roads.

After watching this documentary...I truly believe "Us, Americans"... need to stop our whining so much!! Only the Strong Survive in Wild Africa!
