First degree murder? Do you even know how laws work? It seems you’re judging by emotions

I understand your emotional response to this tragedy, but the law wouldn't apply to first degree murder. Unfortunately, the laws we have are generally very lax.

If daddy can afford for Jr to total off 3 cars, he can afford a good lawyer to get him off. Isn't that how the law works? Only for the rich who can afford the lawyers. The State Legislators need to change the Laws for these types of deadly (make it a Murder charge, it does seem vary State from State) crashes..that have gone from being a rarity to hundreds of thousands of accidents every year and the body counts are astronomical, 3 here, 5 here 6 here, 4 here.. in a week's time. Maybe after 40 years of this carnage We, the Justice System need a more aggressive game plan. Most European Countries don't have this carnage on their Roadways. A severe crash even with no fatalities needs a year without a license and a monitor device. If the first doesn’t bring out remorse and fear they are going to do it again. Forced time out at least has a chance to help.

I agree in this case. The repeated speeding and crashes has me as a parent wanting charges filed. He lives at home and isn’t emancipated. They knowingly and repeatedly gave him a 5000 pound gun to operate irresponsibly that led to 4 deaths. The first parent charged in this country from his kid stealing a gun from the home and shooting up his school was inn Marysville.

I'm not saying the parents are completely blameless, here, but no state in this country could hold the parents of an 18 year old legally responsible for this. Chase Jones is an adult in the eyes of the law. Even if he *was* on his parents insurance policy, which we don't know for sure, they still couldn't be held legally responsible.

Agree that as parents they are not responsible due to him being 18 but as the owners of the car and the fact that they knew he had previously been involved in speeding accidents in their car they are 100% liable for once again allowing him access to their vehicle knowing he was a danger.

Judges and lawmakers are sub-useless.

"Lawmakers" do just that, make the laws. It's up to police and courts to correct that "kid". He should be in prison for murder.

I imagine that the parents have him as a secondary driver on their insurance policy so they would be liable. This kid shouldn't be driving, he has no regard for anyone's safety. His parents buy him cars under their name. They clearly are okay with him doing whatever he wants.

Technically he’s over 18 and if the parents did not give him a car he could have rented one? Borrowed one from a friend? Can’t really hold parents responsible legally but trust me I hear what you’re saying and what morally should happen for the damage he caused to so many but legally it all falls on the driver.

The next time I tried to rent a car I think I was 24 and that same company told me they didn’t do that anymore… but that was about 20 yrs ago, so maybe my ages are off I think the guy in the video is right… if he was on his parents’ insurance then their insurance would have to handle the claim, but that doesn’t mean that the family would get much; THAT depends on the policy coverage limits The insurance would tell the family what the coverage limits for that particular policy are for that sort of incident and the family could choose to accept that in lieu of litigation, or they could try to go after the driver in court and argue that his parents facilitated their son’s actions, even knowing how dangerous he was based on 2 prior totaled vehicles in less than 2 years Giving it some gas on a 40MPH straightaway would be 50… MAYBE 60 if there’s no sign of *~ ANY ~* traffic whatsoever and even then you slow down to the speed limit as you approach intersections… then you can go back to being an idiot on the next clear straightaway 112 with traffic is beyond criminal/felony speeding even on the freeway… but to do so in a 40 mph zone is suicidal I can only hope that the family in that minivan didn’t even have time to process what was happening before their deaths…
