If you are in the Weligama area, i highly recommend to visit the snake farm. It was truly a great experience during my travels in Sri Lanka.
Here is some information about the two venomous snakes he brought out at the end. The Sri Lankan Russell's Viper and the King Cobra.
The KING COBRA is the snake that lashed out at me and I had to back away.
Sri Lankan Russell's Viper (Daboia russelii): This venomous snake is responsible for the majority of snakebite-related deaths in Sri Lanka. It has a distinct triangular-shaped head and a well-defined, light-colored zigzag pattern along its body. The venom of the Sri Lankan Russell's Viper can cause a range of symptoms, including severe pain, swelling, bleeding, and in some cases, can be fatal if left untreated.
Common Cobra (Naja naja): The Common Cobra, also known as the Indian Cobra, is found in Sri Lanka and is responsible for many snakebite incidents. It has a hood that it can flare when threatened, making it a recognizable snake. Its venom can affect the nervous system and lead to respiratory failure if not treated in time.
